January Highlights

Clara Barton Comes to Peirce!
Clara Barton was a teacher, a nurse, the founder of the American Red Cross, and a woman who exemplified perseverance. Through hard work and determination she accomplished great things and serves as a wonderful role model for children.

The students at Peirce were treated to a one person dramatization of Clara Barton which included a slide show, recordings, sound effects and costume changes. The K-3 children sat mesmerized as they learned about this incredible woman through this
Historical Perspectives for Children presentation.

To read a review of Ms. Landon's presentation for Peirce School by parent Mary Brooks and third grader Macon, click here.
Author Lucinda Landon will share mystery writing tips with students in grades 2 and 3. Ms. Landon is the creator of the Meg Mackintosh Mystery series. She has also authored a teacher resource book which includes seven historical mysteries featuring Meg. One of the most popular with the children at Peirce, perhaps because it takes place in Menotomy, Massachusetts is entitled The Minuteman's Secret.

The Tile Project
Through the Peirce School Tile Project the Peirce community will have an opportunity to "make their mark" on the new Peirce School.

Peirce parent Jean Camp received a grant, funded by the AEEF, to develop a ceramic tile installation to decorate the new Peirce. Each student will paint a tile which will be become a permanent part of our new school.

We are all excited about this wonderful project.

Recently, during Art classes, parent volunteers worked with our Art teachers to help students K-5 create their tiles.
We're all anxious to see what they'll look like once they're fired!
Peirce alumni and future Peirce students will get the opportunity to produce their own tiles for a charge of $25 at the Peirce Art Show in April. At that time, some of the finished student work will also be on display. Current students who want to paint an additional tile can also make another work of art for $25 at the show.
