Unit Gothic/Supernatural Literature. : Monday we will begin a new unit. The Following is tentative outline of the week ahead for this outline.

 

Monday: Today we are beginning a new unit. We will be discussing the supernatural in literature. In Daily log write about the first scary movie you saw. What was the title? Were you scared to go to bed that night? As a child were you scared of ghosts or monsters under the bed? Do you like scary movies? Why do people like a good fright? Can you have a scary movie that is not violent?

Class discussion on the supernatural and literature. We will begin to read the Fall of the House of Usher.

 

Tuesday: Finish reading the Fall of the House of Usher. Discuss. Begin work on power point presentations. You will be broken into groups of 3-5 to make a power point on an author. (See rubric)

 

Wednesday : Continue Work on Power point presentations

 

Thursday: Audio listening of Mrs. Todd’s Shortcut and discussion – For homework begin to brain storm about story ideas for a short story on the supernatural. Refer to brainstorming handouts if you need help getting started.

 

Friday:  Present authors on power point. Rest of period can be used for writing center day

 

Monday: Class reading of The Raven

 

Tuesday: Writing center – continue work on short stories. Quiz? For homework finish story by Friday- must be final draft
