Pain
A silent scream
Echoes through a burnt corridor
An eerie feel
Surround the charred remains
A bewildered look
Upon those who shared
In your child-like world
A disbelief from staff and relatives
A whispered regret
From those who ignored you
A tear-stained sorry
For adding to your loneliness
A burden to carry ~
The cause of your death
Can we ever forgive ourselves?

"This is another in a line of poems I wrote about my brother Peter who died tragically in the Kew Cottages fire in Melbourne Australia in 1996. This poem expresses the pain of regret and guilt of not sharing in his world. It also shows the child-like world he lived in and touches on the horror of the fire.
RIP Peter."
