Mum

Mum
Mum, you're precious
Mum, you're special
Mum, you're missed
Wish you were here
Share my tears
Do you know what it's like
To be alone?
Scared of life ~
What comes after?
I don't know
But you do
You know
You're aware
Of why we're here ~
The answer to life
Is in your spirit
Reigning in the afterlife
Can you tell me
Whisper it in my dreams
Show a sign, give me a vision
Tell me, what is the afterlife?
Is it darkness and pain
Or light and love?
Is there a God above?
Are my prayers wasted?
Does He care?
Is He there?
I know He is
He blesses and counsels me
In my time of desperation
Does it matter what's going down?
Mum, I love you with all my heart
My affection and feelings will never end ~
Eternity? What? Where?

"This poem was written after my mother's death. I was very angry at the time as those who have suffered from grief will know that anger is one of the phases you go through in overcoming loss. In this poem, I am spiritually questioning the afterlife in trying to understand why God took my mum from me at a time when I wasn't ready to let her go or had appreciated her warmth and wisdom. She died at a time when I was too wrapped up in me, my friends thinking I was invincible and my parent's didn't matter. Isn't it amazing how you don't realise what you've got until it's gone. Mum, I'm sorry, this poem is for you."
