Materialism

There's no such thing as a free lunch
Materialism it's got you round the neck
You wanna scream, but it would intensify the pain
It's claws sink deeper into your vanity
Can't spare a buck or even a dime
Poverty is the victim's fault
Don't blame the system, you contributed
Dole bludgers, free loaders
You spit and you curse
Where governments are corrupted
You hail their successes
What else could they do?
The country's taken advantage
What's wrong with a little hard labour?
Pinching pennies, to outdo your neighbour
Do you own it, or does it own you?
You look at me quizically?
Can't understand the question?
Moral minds, confuse your greed,
It's mine! mine! mine!
Don't give it to me.
You're trapped, suffocating!
Money isn't freedom,
Coz you're in bondage,
To this hypnotic disease.
Like Jesus, with the young, rich ruler,
Wouldn't give up his riches,
To secure a seat, in eternity.
All the rewards, earth bound.
Can't take them when you go.
Will the money, keep you warm at night?
Will it hug you, when you're alone?
Will it speak words of comfort,
When you're feeling lost?
Will you line your coffin with it?
Rotting corpse, only mourner.
Break free, give it up.
Generosity, giving and kind.
That's what I, would rather be, remembered for.
