Freedom

I'm feeling sad today
I don't know what to say
I'm stunned
Shocked into silence
As I contemplate
What so many of us
Take for granted
Freedom
You have it no more
The judge ruled against you
Locked away
What a price to pay
Daylight savings is coming
Your anniversary too
I watch your woman
Celebrate alone
Christmas season is dawning
Festivities all the go
You'll miss Valentine's too
I am so sorry for you
What can I say
What glimmer of hope
Can I promote
When I am depressed
Yet enjoy what I do
Come and go as I please
Except for working hours
But at least
In the sun
I can sit
During my lunch break
It's where I sat today
As I thought of you
And sent a silent prayer
For God to be with you
And help you endure
The pain you must bear
As you count down to freedom
Oh Jeff
Though you're a prisoner now
Our efforts not
We feel locked
How do we ease
make it better for you
Write letters, send cards
Visit as often as we can
Look out for your family, friends and woman
Be here when you get out
Celebrate freedom
19th February
We're counting down too
We pray this poem shows
How much we care
We won't abandon you
You're special to us
No matter where you are
Or what you do
Unconditional friendship
From us for life
Why?
Simply because we love you
And no prison gate
Will chain our feelings for you

"This poem is about a friend of mine who was sent to prison for four months, simply for something that was twisted and brought against him. It was a sad time for all involved and my heart went out to both him and his girlfriend (now his wife). Freedom is something we all take for granted, until it is taken away from us....I could not believe all their appeals etc. were in vain and he was sent to gaol. Sometimes the law protects the guilty more than the innocent victims."
