Most of the stones in the Canadian Cemetaries were for, of course, Canadians, although there were a few exceptions. There were a few British dead, RAF I think, and one Frenchman, seen left. He had been a member of the French Resistance, and had helped the Canadians, so in thanks and respect, he was buried with the Canadians he worked with.
Yes, those are maple trees in the bottom picture. In the areas given by the French to the various countries for cemetaries and memorials, trees from the countries were planted. |
