The Memorial de Caen focuses quite a bit on the Second World War in France, and has a good deal of information on D-Day events. There is also a hall of Nobel Peace Prize winners, and a Canadian garden, and an American garden, both full of plants native to Canada and the U.S. It is certainly worth a visit, and if you take the time to watch some of the videos (and they're worth the time they take), you will spend a good 3 hours or so there. Don't neglect the hall of Nobel Peace Prizes either.
Caen was mostly destroyed in the war, and much of that happened around D-Day, in the attempts to liberate the city and the region. They have done a nice job of rebuilding though, it's a very nice little city, where some of the newer architecture is quite imaginative. |
