Author's Note

Friends,

It's hard to believe I've had this site up and running for 6 years now. I can't help but ask myself, "Where
has the time gone?"

My humble website is not much in the way of the current online community, where web blogging, YouTube, Facebook and Myspace reign supreme.

The email has all but replaced the postal stamp, and just 6 years ago these things were nearly impossible to imagine. For instance, I can remember the thrilling idea of simply meeting someone new over my dial-up 56K modem and AOL instant messenger.  Now, I see new faces every day thanks to these incredible advances we didn't even realize we were missing out on just a few years ago.

In 2002 when I first errected this site, dedicated to free-style writing, art and local talents, I was barely 18 years old. Having stumbled across a new-found freedom, I had recently moved out on my own and began my journey into adulthood.

The past 6 years have lead me many places. I've lived all over northern Illinois before finally settling in DeKalb, IL. I've made trips spanning the continental US and had the epiphany that I love to travel. I lived in disbelief of wonders like mountains, rivers, oceans. I finally aquired a US passport. I've attended too many music festivals to remember them all clearly (and no, the beer didn't help.) I've become a heartfelt fan of live music. I've been lucky to meet a few entertainment  icons. I've fallen deeply in love with the city of Chicago. I learned how to rock climb at the expense of my manicure. I bought more books than is probably sane or reasonable to own. I spent time in the hospital, time in surgery, a lot of time awake and I rarely got enough sleep. I was a professional waitress, and I finally landed a comfortable office job and a part-time position on air at my favorite news source, National Public Radio.

I'll admit this time  has passed with it's share of pleasure, pain, joy and grief. I've fallen in and out of love. I've gained and lost. I've met and forgotten. I've seen war and I continue to wish for peace.

The question comes: would I trade any of it for something different?

     No. Never.

I consider myself lucky and I am grateful for the people and experiences that have graced my life.

And this is only the beginning. Today is not yesterday, tomorrow always comes, and now is the time. We must live in constant reminder of these facts.

I hope to look back on this again 6 years from now, 6 years from that, and so on....

Thank you for taking the time to read, to browse my site.

All my love,

Elizabeth
