“We’re able to see Kayla as much as we want.” Jean said, “But since you took Kayla without Josh knowing, he’s not going to let us see her ever again.”
Paula looked at her mother, “What do you mean, you get to see her whenever you want?”
“Your father and I have an agreement with Josh that whenever he goes out of town for work, we’d watch Kayla.” Jean said, “His tour is starting up and for the first month Kayla was going to be with us.”
Paula slumped into the chair and leaned her head back, “God what have I just done…”
“That’s what I’d like to know.” Randy said, “Liz called me not five minutes ago and she sounded pissed.”
“She’s the little pit bull of annoyance that keeps humping my leg.” Paula said, “None of this would have happened if she wouldn’t have said anything.”
“Don’t go blaming this on Lizanne.” Randy said, “Sure she took your daughter away from you, but that’s your fault.”
“You were the one who suggested I take Kayla!” Paula yelled
“Sarcastically!” Randy said, “I was being sarcastic!”
“Sarcastic or not, Paula needs to call Liz and tell her what happened.” John said.
“And what good could that possibly do?” Paula asked
“Maybe she’d sympathize with you and convince Josh not to take away our rights to see Kayla.”
“It’d be a cold day in hell before I crawl to Liz and ask for anything kind of sympathy.”
Jean picked up the phone and began to dial Liz’ cell number and she looked at Paula, “Not even if it means your father and I will be able to see Kayla?” Paula was silent as Jean handed the phone to her.
Paula sighed, took the phone and put it up to her ear, “I better get pictures and videos six times a year out of this.”
Liz looked at her cell as it rang then she looked at Karen.
“Who is it?” Karen asked as she glanced from the road to Liz then looked back at the road.
“Someone calling from Jean’s…” she said. She clicked the phone on and put it to her ear, “Hello?”
“Lizanne? It’s Paula.”
“Why Paula…what a surprise.” Liz said as she pointed in the direction that Karen needed to go to park.
“I know you talked to my mom and that my mom called Josh, but I just wanted to tell you that she and my dad didn’t have anything with me taking Kayla.”
“And you’re telling me this because?” Liz asked.
While Liz and Paula were talking, Randy pointed out the open window at the two cars that were parking in front of the house.
“Hell just got colder…” Randy said walking to the door to open it.
“Because…because I don’t want Josh to take my parents’ right to see Kayla away.”
“This is something you should talk with Josh about.” Liz said as she got out of the car and opened the back door to take Adriana out of her car seat, “And not over the phone.”
“Okay, I’ll be over in five minutes…with Kayla.”
“Don’t worry about it.” Liz said, “We’ve already made the trip.” She ended the call as the rest of the group got out of the car Josh was driving and they walked up to the house as Randy opened the door.
“Where’s Kayla?” Josh asked when he walked into the house.
Jean pointed to John who was sitting on the sofa and feeding Kayla, “She’s fine Josh…” John said softly.
Josh looked from John to Paula, “Why did you take her?”
“I don’t know…” Paula said not looking at Josh.
“That’s not a good enough answer for me Paula.” He said, “And I know for a fact that’s not the truth!”
“Were you going to take her out of the country?” Karen asked.
Paula’s eyes went wide as she looked at her, “How crazy do you think I am?!” she asked, “All I wanted was for my parents to see Kayla!”
“Then what was all that talk about having a large cabin?” Heather asked
“Not that it’s any of your business, but some friends of mine were taking a boat from London to Amsterdam and they were worried that there wouldn’t be enough space for all of us.” Paula said. She looked at Josh, “Did you think I was going to take Kayla out of the country?”
“I didn’t know what to think.” Josh said walked to John and taking Kayla from him, “You took my daughter and no one knew where you were.”
“My mother knew.” Paula said, “Why didn’t you ask her?”
All eyes turned to Jean, “I found out an hour ago!” she said, “When I saw all the baby stuff that Paula had in her suitcase.”
Everyone looked back at Paula, “You still want to stick to your story of not taking Kayla out of the country?” Liz asked
“I bought those thing for my mom to have.” She said, “I was going to leave Kayla with her and then once I was out of the country I was going to call Josh and tell him where she was.”
“Did you actually think you could make it out of the country?” Josh asked, “That’s as stupid as my believing that you weren’t going to take her out of the country.”
“Well I wasn’t.” Paula said.
“I don’t think anyone in this room believes that.” Cynthia said.
“Well it’s the truth and whether you believe it or not, is your problem.”
“Oh, it’s your problem too.” Josh said, “Not only did you just ruin any chances of having anything to do with Kayla, but you ruined any chances of your parents having anything to do with her.”
“They had nothing to do with me taking her, Josh!” Paula yelled, “Don’t punish them because you’re pissed at me!”
