| Chapter 15 ~*~ Elizabeth rang the doorbell of the Quartermaine Mansion. She stood outside with Erica, Audrey, and Audreys nurse, Alison. The door flew open and Reginald stood on the other side. Well, hello girls. Reginald smiled. Welcome to the nightmare that is this house. This is your last chance to turn around. He insisted. Elizabeth laughed. I think well stay, but thanks for the warning. Reginald led the family to the dining area. He opened the door and loud bickering came rushing out at them. Elizabeth couldnt make out one particular voice or phrase. Excuse me. Reginald said. Excuse me. He said a little louder. Excuse me! He screamed, finally quieting the argument. The Webbers, against all of my warnings, have decided to stay. A large round of Elizabeth? Audrey? Whos this little girl? Welcome! How are you? started as the family, one at a time, gave the group hugs and kisses. During this time, Elizabeth learned who was paired with who these days. With the exception of Edward and Lila, and Alan and Monica, everything waswhoa was the only word to describe some of these couples. Emily was back with Zander. Elizabeth was totally shocked. She always figured the two of them would get back together. Zander, along with Emily, was working at ELQ in the marketing department. Elizabeth wondered if Emily knew about the night she spent with Zander. Of course it was just once. He was still upset about Emily, she was hurt by Jason. It was a comfort thing. It didnt matter anymore. Alexis was there with her husband, Cameron, Lukes and her psychiatrist. That was kind of weird. Wasnt there some sort of rule against dating your patients, not to mention marrying them? But they seemed happy. Alexis had a little girl, Kristina that Erica got along great with and they had a little boy together. His name was Carter, and he was three. Then there was Ned. Now this was weird. Elizabeth didnt quite understand his love story. Apparently Skye wasnt really a Quartermaine, which meant that she wasnt Neds cousin. So I guess he helped her get over Jasper Jax and they fell in love? Too creepy if Elizabeth had anything to say about it. Then there was another family member that came along after shed left. Dillon, Tracey Quartermaines son and Neds brother. He just married his high school girlfriend, Georgie Scorpio. Elizabeth remembered her. She used to go into Kellys all of the time. She seemed like a sweet girl. And that Dillon was quite a cutie. And the most outrageous pairing of all: AJ and Faith Roscoe? How did this happen? She used to be one of Sonny Corinthoses primary enemies. She was evil and heartless. Now she was the nicest woman ever. She was married to AJ and pregnant with his baby. They were the happiest of all of the couples! Elizabeth leaves for five years and stuff like this happens? Wow! Too crazy! After about a half-hour of mingling, Reginald entered to inform the group that dinner was ready. They all took their seats at the table. Elizabeth took a seat between Emily and Erica. Edward, once food was placed in front of everyone, looked to Elizabeth. So dear, Emily tells me that you were working in an advertisement agency while you were living in Florida. Yeah. Williams & Moss. I was head of the Nike team, before I left. Elizabeth stated proudly. Oh, thats just terrific. Edward clapped his hands together twice before continuing. Well, as Im sure Emily has already told you, shes running the Marketing Department at ELQ. And shes short a staff member or two he said more as a question than a statement. Elizabeth smiled. Yeah, she told me. You should work with us, Elizabeth. Zander said. It would be great. Yeah, Ill definitely consider it. Im just not sure what Im going to be doing yet. Youre not going to be leaving us again, dear, are you? Lila asked. Not any time soon. I hope well get a good-bye this time. Ned smiled at Elizabeth. He was always so kind to her. Definitely. Elizabeth lowered her head. Last time was justkind of spur of the moment. Well, why did you have to go so quickly? Skye asked. I mean, it was March. Its not like you were starting school right away or anything. I justI needed to get away. She didnt want to get into this with the Quartermaines. She loved them, but this was none of their business. Faith, realizing her discomfort, and knowing full well Elizabeth was sure, why she needed to get away, changed the subject. You know, Elizabeth, AJ and I are trying to decorate our new home. We wanted to have a couple of paintings made and I heard that you are an artist. Do you still paint? Elizabeth quietly thanked her with a smile. Yeah. In my spare time. Would you be interested in doing some for us? I would love to. Elizabeth was ecstatic. She loved painting. Sadly, she hadnt had much time lately. Now that things were starting to settle down, she would be able to spend more time on her first love. Great. AJ said. Why dont you stop by the house Saturday afternoon. We could talk about what we want and you could tell us what would look appropriate. He smiled at her. He obviously realized he didnt know at all what they needed. UmSaturday? AJ shook his head, yes. I cant. Thats Lucky Spencer and Courtney Matthews wedding. Oh dear. Please tell me youre not going to that nightmare of a union. Edward pleaded. Luckys always been a great friend to me. I cant not go. She smiled innocently. Oh, but hes changed. Edward insisted. Ever since he got himself involved in that mob world with Sonny and Jason and that Ric Lansing character. Ric Lansing? Ericas face lit up at the mention of her father. Hes talking about Daddy. Erica informed Elizabeth. Daddy? The table exploded into questions and disbelieving stares in Elizabeths direction. She tried to cover her red face. Obviously Emily hadnt told anyone. Elizabeth, is that true? Alan asked concerned. Is Ric Lansing Ericas father? Elizabeth slowly looked around the table at all of the curious faces. Yeah. We were together before I left. No wonder you left town! Edward screamed. You found out he was Sonny Corinthoses brother! You didnt want your child involved with that hoodlum. I dont blame you sweetheart. I agree. Cameron said, giving a look to Alexis. What was that about? Elizabeth asked herself. That world is no place to bring a child into. Absolutely. Zander started. Thats why you left Jason. There was no future with him because of the lies and violence that consumed his life. Skye added. If Ric Lansing is anything like his brother, youd have to have a death wish if you were to have stayed with him. Elizabeth looked down at her confused daughter as the Ric bashing continued. She gave her daughters hand a squeeze before standing up and shouting. Enough! She looked around at the shocked faces and went on. I left because I was stupid and young and confused. Ric Lansing is the best father. He just found out about his little girl, and he already loves her more than himself. And Lucky? He fell in love! And he chose a great girl because she brought him into a family that loves their members unconditionally! We should all be so lucky to have them in our corner. She sat back down a little embarrassed, but she stayed strong. Now, can we eat? Everyone looked around at each other confused, before continuing to eat in silence. |
