Summary: Elizabeth returns to Port Charles after five and a half years away with a surprise for
Ric.
Authors Note: Okay, This is assuming that Elizabeth finds out all about Ric and his agenda after their date to the art museum on the night they made love for the first time. She left town without so much as a good-bye to anyone. She hasnt kept in contact with anyone, and she changed her last name to Hardy so no one could find her.
Chapter 5

~*~

Carly began setting the table. She wanted to help Sonny cook, but every time she went anywhere
near the kitchen he threw her out. He told her she was such a bad cook that being near him when
he was working his magic would screw him up. He was so full of himself in the kitchen. Of course
he really did have every right to be. His food was incredible.

Carly looked up when the front door opened. Courtney and Lucky walked in. Hey Carly.

Hey guys. Come in. Sit. Keep me company. Sonny wont let me go near him. Hes cooking.
She smiled at her sister-in-law and her fiancee. They seemed like such an odd couple, but they
really fit. Lucky had never been one of her favorite people. It was probably his connection to
Elizabeth Webber. But now she got along with him great.

Oh, I am going to let you two talk. Lucky started toward the kitchen. I think Ill go help
Sonny.

Good luck. He wont let me within twenty feet. Carly shouted after him.

Lucky peaked his head around the corner back into the living room. Thats because youre a
horrible cook. I dont blame him. You might screw up dinner. Lucky dodged a roll that Carly
flung his way before heading into the kitchen.

Men. Carly smiled at her best friend. So, atleast I have you.

Tell me about it. If I didnt have my girl time, Id go nuts! Courtney started to help Carly set the
table. Guess who I saw today?

Carly searched Courtneys face. It was obviously someone she didnt expect Carly to guess.
Elizabeth Webber?

Oh my gosh, how did you know?

Because I saw her daughter at the hospital today. Carly was there with Michael and Matthew
when her mother brought the little girl into the waiting room. She just about fell off of her seat
when Bobbie told her she belonged to Elizabeth.

You saw her daughter? What does she look like? Courtney was curious about the father.
Elizabeth wouldnt go into detail about him. She just said he was from a long time ago. Courtney
could help but think that she might be Rics.

Well, he looks an awful lot like someone we know. She looked at Courtney who was obviously
on the same page. And she looked about five years old.

You dont think hes the father, do you? They hadnt even said a name, but they both knew
whom the other was talking about.

I dont know, but it seems likely. She left town so fast.

Do you think she knew she was pregnant before she left. Courtney couldnt believe Elizabeth
wouldnt tell Ric he was the father, if that was the case.

Knowing that little Ice Princess, she probably did.

What do you have against her? Shes obviously had it hard. Courtney knew that she and
Elizabeth didnt get along well before she left town, but she couldnt help but feel sorry for her.
She had to raise a child all on her own. Of course she didnt have to if she was Rics. He would
have done anything to help them. He loves Elizabeth and he would love that little girl.

She messed with two important men in my life. First Jason, then Ric. Its five years later and Ric
still hasnt recovered. Now shes back to hurt him some more. Carly hated seeing Ric so shut off
from love. Sure, theyd had their problems when he first came to town. Okay, she hated him for
what he did to her. He made her think she was unfaithful to Sonny, but Carly knew she wasnt an
angel when she came to town either. She did some pretty evil things to get back at her mother.
Ric was a lot like her. She still hated what he did, but she understood.

Knock knock. Brenda yelled while coming through the front door with Jason in tow. Can we
come in?

Of course. Join us. Were just talking about the stupid little tramp, Elizabeth Webber. Carly
grunted.

Damn, you can hold a grudge. Jason laughed. Shes been gone for over five years and you still
cant stop talking about her.

Yeah, well, this is a new thing. She decided leaving Ric wasnt enough. Now shes back to turn
his life upside down again. Carly wanted to rip that little bitchs hair out. If she thinks for a
second that she was going to let her hurt him again, she was sadly mistaken.

Elizabeth is back? Jason said, shocked. Then he remembered Rics state earlier that day. Has
Ric seen her yet?

Yeah. Courtney said. He ran into her at the hospital today.

He did? Carly shrieked. Shes already started!

Jase, didnt you say that Ric was acting funny today? Brenda looked up at her boyfriend.

Yeah. Now I know why.

And theres more. Carly started. She has a little girl that looks about five years old, and she is
a spitting image of Ric.

Oh, youre kidding! Brenda didnt know Elizabeth well, but she had heard about her from
Carly. And from what she heard, she could see her doing something like that. Poor Ric.

Does Ric know about the kid? Jason asked. He couldnt believe Elizabeth would keep
something like that from everyone.

No, I dont think so. Courtney said. I talked to her today, and she said she didnt get to talk to
him much. He left mad. If he knew, he would have stuck around.

Okay, well, I dont think we should tell him. Carly insisted.

Tell who what? Sonny came out of the kitchen with a huge plate full of ham sliced perfectly.
Lucky followed him with a bowl of potato salad and one filled with dressing.

Elizabeth Webber is back in town, and she has a five year old daughter that looks exactly like
Ric. Carly told her husband.

Sonny searched the faces of his family. Wow. Wasnt expecting that. He looked at his wife.
And how do we know this?

Because I saw her daughter, Erica Carly thought about the name. Oh, oh, and her name is
Erica which has Ric in it! Carly was proud of herself.

Yeah, I thought about that when I saw her, but she could have just named her that because shes
still in love with Ric. It doesnt mean hes the father. Lucky pointed out.

You saw her, too? Sonny asked him. And why didnt you tell me when we were in the
kitchen?

It didnt come up. Lucky laughed.

So what are we going to tell Ric? Brenda asked.

Nothing. Were not telling Ric anything. Carly said as Ric walked through the door.

Youre not telling me what? Ric searched the worried faces of his friends. Obviously they had
seen her, too. I know Elizabeth is back in town, and I dont want to talk about it. He took off
his jacket as he walked to the table. It smells great, Sonny. Im starving. Ric sat at the table
while everyone stared at him. What?

Ric, theres more. Courtney started.

No, theres not, Courtney. Carly shot a warning glare at Courtney, who ignored it.

Elizabeth has a daughter.

Ric looked around the table of concerned faces. Without saying anything he stood from his seat,
put his coat back on, and went for the door.

Ric, wait. He ignored Carly. She looked at Courtney. Great job. Now shes going to stomp on
his heart a little more."

~*~

During his walk to Elizabeths grandmothers house, Ric had a lot of time to think. Why hadnt
she told him she had a child? Was she married? Did she have a boyfriend? Why did she kiss him?

When he knocked on the door, he immediately regretted it. What did he plan on saying? He had
no real right to be mad. She wasnt his possession. They hadnt seen each other in five and a half
years. He certainly hadnt kept to himself.

But that was different. His conquests meant nothing to him. They were a way to pass the time. He
never loved them. But if Elizabeth had a child, and if she was with someone, she was probably in
love with him.

What was he doing there? He turned to leave as the door flew open.
