We went through a total of 29 locks on our way down the rivers, many while we were alseep.  Some took us down 30 meters at once!  This is entering the lock..

This original, vintage 19C steam train took us on a 20-mile journey through Tournon and the surrounding countryside, visiting waterfalls, cliffs, and deep gorges, and getting us lightly frosted with soot.
...and leaving it.
Another interior courtyard discovered during a trip through the traboules.  Each one is made unique by its residents, who live there by agreeing to help keep Lyon an UNESCO cultural World Heritage site.
When Lyon was excavated in 1933, a Roman theater and odeum were discovered.  They are both used today for outdoor events and concerts.
Because the vinyards are built on the sides of hills and mountains, they implement terracing.  Often, the ground will be chemically different enough in each terrace to produce grapes with distinctive flavors, and, hence, different types of wine.
Vienne has a Roman past, as evidenced by this arch, which was the entrance to the Roman Forum...
... and by this temple, dedicated to Emperor Augstus and his wife Livia.
