Jonathan is the son of Stephen and Julie (nee O'Brien) Schmitz. He is the brother of Alexander Schmitz and the grandson of Cecilia and the late George Schmitz and Johana and the late John T. O'Brien. Jonathan is the nephew of Fr. George Schmitz, Marilyn Huth, Thomas Schmitz, Mary Frances (Thomas) Link, Joseph (Marybeth) Schmitz, Gregory (Linda) Schmitz, Robert (Roberta) schmitz, Dave (Connie) Schmitz, Shawn (Amy) O'Brien, Barbara (Chris Udry) O'Brien, Phillip (Mary) O'Brien, Debbie (Joseph) VanGils, Patti (Tim) Hafner and Peggy (Paul) Behm. He is survived by numerous cousins and friends.
