Last October 2005, I finally met with the cosmetic surgeon Dr. Raul Guanzon who would do the Rhinoplasty for my daughter. This is a reconstructive surgery of her nose. As agreed upon, the surgery was scheduled at the end of this school year. Roughly about March 21 or 23. What I forgot to consider is the signing of her clearance and other school matters. In short, we got delayed for a week. Another factor to consider is my MIA ex-husband who promised to send the money for the operation. As always, he did not come up with his part of the deal. Again, he was swallowed by the earth (he was nowhere to be found - It is very hard to look for someone who is hiding or pretends to be missing). As a mother, I do not have an option but to come up with the money. Thank God for small miracles and we are back on track as scheduled. Operation schedule: March 30, 2006 at 1 pm.
Today, we woke up very early and made sure that she ate breakfast as her last meal before her operation. It was quite hard since eating is my daughters' pastime. Anyway halfway through all of this, we received a phone call rescheduling us for 6 pm on that same day. Still on track, it was just moved a few hours.
Finally the time has come, it is about 4 pm now and we are about to leave for surgery. Told my daughter things would be alright and after all of these a brigther future awaits.
We arrived at the clinic about 4:45 pm. Although we arrived very early, they started prepping her up for surgery. 1st thing they did .... ECG ( they had to do it 3x since some of those little nozzle or whatever you call it was not attached to her properly or so they thought) Next, was to take her blood pressure and skin test. Blood pressure: 90 / 60 Skin test - well this is where it all started... I was called and told by the attending nurse that my daughter fainted. She was white as paper when I saw her. She was sweating a lot and cold. We revived her after a few minutes but the operation has been cancelled. The attending cardiologist said: 1. she was skipping a beat 2. they heard a murmur in her heart more of a prolapse (leaking of the valve) but not sure which side and advised us to see our cardiologist for further test ( which of course includes ECG and 2D echo) and Clearance that she is physically okay to undergo surgery and afterwhich is the rescheduling of her operation.
I guess, I did not forsee the anxiety developing within her. All the delays, rescheduling and waiting. As I talked to her, she said it was the skin test. Not so much on the needle, but when they injected the medicine which cause the pain.....

Today is the d-day to know whether we get a schedule for operation or not. Although we where give a temp schedule for Friday April 7 - It would still depend on them if we push through or not. Went to Dr. Guanzon's Clinic today and I was told that she is not emotionally, mentally and physically ready and mature for this. It would be best if the operation wait for another year. I was told that her operation would take about an hour long unlike normal nose jobs that takes about 30 minutes. As they have seen, she may want it but she is not ready for it.
At first, I didn't want to agree with what they are saying. No normal person would ever be ready for an operation. There would always be the anxiety. I realize now looking back, that this is already the 3rd week it has been delayed. Maybe it is not meant to be. Soon but not now. I guess God has given us all the signs to delay this. Better follow than be sorry in the end. So, until next summer again. |
