Despite his newly grown-out hair and a relativlely normal facial fungus Sysytem Of A Down (KKKKK) guitarist Daron Malakian still looks like a man on the run from The People Who Want To Make Him Better. Bug-eyed and constatly contorting, he's the bands live focal point, but every member of SOAD brings somthing special to the mix. Serj Tankian, as well as possesing one of the most striking voices in the genre, is the most laid-back foil to Malakian's convolutions, while the tight, elastic rythms provided by John Dolmayan and Shavo Odadjian underpin the the whole thing, In a set made entirely of peaks it's impossble to pick just one highlight, so we'll go for three instead: the incredible kick-drumming that fuels the mental bit in Chop Suey!; the whole of' 'Sugar', just for being superb; and the finest escape of the day by the girl who got over the barrier and into the hallowed front section of the arena by fengning pregnancy, only to dissappear into the crowd after whipping a jumper out from under her dress. It's a shame that System have to curtail their set, then, when a section of the rig is sent crashing stage-wards by a gargantuan gust of wind, narrowly missing Dolmayan's kit and striking a considerably unluckier tech.
