| KKK (Out of 5) Low budget psychological fright-flick thats had nearly as much hype as The Phantom Menace. WHEN I first saw The Blair Witch Project, Id heard that everything init was real, so I was initially a little disappointed when I watched it and discovered that it wasnt. Still, the film has a good story and it moves really quickly so you dont get bored. Its difficult to talk about it without giving it away. The three characters Heather, Josh and Mike (played by actors with the same names) embark one day to interview townspeople and explore a remote part of the state of Maryland, in order to film a documentary on a local legend the Blair Witch. Its very important you listen to what these people have to say, as they provide clues as to what happens later to the students. As the trio head out into the woods, the viewer starts to feel just as lost as they do. Every night, they find themselves hearing strange and eerie noises, and every morning they awake to pagan-like items placed around their tents. I found their performance of Heather, the leader of the team, pretty annoying, but that might just be my reactions to her bossy character. Still, when Heather films herself crying, alone and afraid in her tent at night, its probably the best acting in the film. It all leads to a very abrupt ending. Its both the movies high point and its biggest disappointment. Theres no real explanation, and some might be a little unhappy with it for that reason. In many ways, The Blair Witch Project is a campfire tale with no conclusion after the big scare. Some people have told me that after seeing this they couldnt sleep. Others have said that its the biggest piece of shit theyve ever seen! Im somewhere in the middle. One bit of advice, though: if you see this in the cinema, I recommend avoiding the first 20 rows of seats. Those jerky camera movements will make you very dizzy by the end! Shavo Odadjian |
