My Year - Shavo Odajian
Press
Weirdest fan experience of the year?
Yesterday we were in Los Angeles and we played a show for our local radio station, KROQ. Weve played LA so often, so it wasnt a big deal, but the way the fans reacted was a little different to usual they were hysterical, screaming, yelling, grabbing and trying to take things off my body. Somebody tried to cut off my goatee and it really bothered me. But really, I think its still gotta be that guy who wanted me to spank his wifes ass.

Most famous person you met this year?
Jimmy Page. I would also say Ozzy, but I met him last year as well.

Most extravagant thing you bought this year?
Ive bought a lot of stereo equipment. Im into hearing music in the best possible way and Im not all about saving money. Ive also bough a new DJ set-up and mixer it was pretty expensive but I had to have it.

Most trouble you got yourself into this year?
Well, Ive already covered this in another Kerrang! interview and I dont really want to repeat myself. It was at the Ozzfest. That was the most recent thing.

Most outrageous thing you did this year?
A lot of things I do are pretty outrageous, but I dont know what you would consider outrageous. To tell you the truth, Ive really been drunk and stupid sometimes

Favourite insult of 1999?
Your mothers a whore
Favourite chat-up line of 1999?
I dont use chat-up lines, I just smile. I cant use lines, I just feel cheesy.

The moment I most felt like a prize donut in 1999 was
I felt stupid making our video. Ive never lip-synched to anything before. Having to act like I was playing when I wasnt made me feel really stupid. Id rather make a video where were not playing at all unless its a live video where were playing for an audience and actually feeling it rather than just playing for a camera crew and not feeling it at all.

The Phantom Menace ace or arse?
They day before the first Ozzfest, we flew into Florida from somewhere and I was jet-lagged off my ass. The Phantom Menace had just come out in America, and because I wanted to get rid of the jetlag, I decided to go to see it instead of sleeping. But 20 minutes into it I fell asleep. It was just straight up boring. I went with John (Dolmayan, drums), who is a big Star Wars freak, and he wanted to walk out with me. So it was pretty bad. I didnt like it much, but I really need to see it again before I can give you my honest opinion.

What will you be drinking on Christmas Day 1999?
A lot of water, Ill probably be pretty hung-over after Christmas Eve

What will you be doing on New Years Eve?
Im DJ-ing at a little party. Its in Los Angeles, but its not going to be announced or anything

The year 2000 will include
What Id like to do and what is going to be happening are two totally different things. Id like for everybody to get a little nicer and a little more accepting. Id also like to see a big change with peoples minds opening and not being so closed about everything. Id like to see more people becoming leaders rather than followers, because this world is too full of followers. So Id like to see more true and educated leaders coming out.
