Hi, there!
-
My Name is Yue H. Li. Most of my American friends have hard time in pronouncing
my name. I have been thinking of getting a English name, but still looking for.
Here is a way I used to solve the problem: "Yue"---my first name, you can pronounce it as "U--A" and My Latst name " Li" as "Lee".
This should do it. Most of my students like this way.
- My Education
- I received my B.S. degree in 1990 from Nanjing University. My undergraduate thesis was " A novel method to synthesis alfa-acetyl-gama-lactone", a
project for a local chemical plant. The NMR I used at that time was only 60MHz, but I got chance to use HPLC, MS and learned all
kinds of fun technique of organic synthesis, such as TLC, CC, vacuum distillation and cutting metal sodium!
- I got my first M.S. degree in Environmental Analytical Chemistry in the year of 1993 from Sichuan University. My research was focused on the catalytic preparation
of Chlorine Dioxide and its application in drinking water and wastewate treatment. It was a successful project. Seven papers
were published. But I paid too much on it. Chlorine Dioxide, toxic and stinking, just like chlorin gas. It almost killed me when the project was in
pilot plant test becasue of the leakage of equipment. However, during this period, in order to do the analysis,
I learned to use AAS, AES, ICP, UV-vis., IC and some analytical electrodes.Moreever, indipendent research and study made me stronger in chemistry research.
- From 1993-1996,I worked in an institute in Chengdu, P. R.China, where I worked as the leader of a R&D group. Our research was to develop new
detergent and dininfectant formulas. We even have a medium size plant for our products. One of the products I was really proud of was a
2-in-1 disinfecting detergent with commercial brand name "KangXin 811". It passed so many regulatory assay and was welcomed in the market. I really
miss those days when I worked both as a researcher and as a salesman in order to put it into market.
- I came to the USA in Jan, 1996. My Advisor is Dr. Dennis H. Burns in Wichita State University. One of the reseaons was that I loved organic synthesis so much. Sometimes, I think that a synthetic organic chemist
just likes an architecherer, a chemistry architecherer----must use both of your knowledge and labor, must design, must have suitable skills, must know the materials you are working on.
During these 3 years, I enjoyed myself very much.My research is about the synthetic methodology studies related to the preparation of chlorins and porphyrins. The total
synthsis inludes a routine of 20-22 step preparation, in which I have my skills elaborated. I learned some new techniques, such as 2-D NMR,NOE, chromatotron, flash chrmotography,
schelenk ware handling, anaerobic operations, syringe techniques, et al. I even had chances to maintain NMR, GC, MS, glove box.
- In the meantime, I have been teaching two organic lab every semester, which improved my English proficiency a lot. I really like my students and they like me too.
After visiting my hoempage, please let me know if you like it, or if there is something I need to modify.
