How to administer First Aid and CPR

First Aid:
- is the immediate emergency care for a victim of sudden illness or injury until
more skillful medical treatment is available.
Reason for administering First Aid:
- It can save lives
- It can prevent permanent disability
- Can improve safety awareness and thus prevent injury and illness in the workplace
Can assist early return too work and rehabilitation
Aims of First Aid:
- Sustain life
- Prevent injuries from becoming more serious
- Improve recovery time and accurate treatment
Recognize and eliminate hazards and unsafe work
Below is an example of what actions to take in case of a minor cut:
- Wash the wound with soap and water of disinfectant
- Control bleeding through direct pressure, elevation and rest
- Cover wound with a sterile dressing, clean cloth, shirt or towel
- Place your hand over dressing and press firmly
- Continue to apply pressure until bleeding stops
- DO NOT remove dressing if blood soaked. Add more material and apply pressure
- Keep injured area elevated
If the following signs of infection develop, seek medical attention:
- Swelling
- Redness or inflammation the skin
- Throbbing of heat
- Sensation of heat
- Fever or discharge
CPR
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is used to restore the heartbeat in a victim whose heart has stopped, a condition may include crushing pain or pressure behind the breastbone; pain in the arms, neck, or shoulder; anxiety and a feeling of impending doom; difficulty breathing, heavy perspiration, weakness, nausea, and a loss of consciousness.
CPR combines the techniques of artificial respiration with the application of external hearty massage to keep blood flowing through the victim�s body.
