| Isla Ca�as | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Isla Ca�as is located at the southern end of The Azuero peninsula, in the province of Los Santos, not far from the popular surfing beach of Playa Venado. It has the largest population of nesting sea turtles in the Republic of Panam�. Sea turtles, upon hatching from their eggs, immediatly start crawling to the sea. Very few survive to reach adulthood, but the few that do always return to the beach, on which they hatched, to lay their eggs. Below are some pictures of a trip to Isla Ca�as. | The walk up the river. This river runs through a dense growth of mangrove. Mangrove roots extend down into the river and provide a sort of aquatic nursery for a variety of small sea creatures like crabs and shrimp. It was interesting passing through by boat the previous afternoon and watching the small crabs scuttling around among the roots. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
