| Melbourne Open Meeting, 20th April 2002, Wavertree. Results | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| On a bright but blustery afternoon Liverpool Harriers hosted the Melbourne Open Meeting. There were a number of fine races across all the age groups, but the times were affected somewhat by a strong wind into the runners faces down the home straight. Times to follow. | A number of athletes were making the transition from cross country and road running to the track, also having to contend in a number of instances with the step up in age groups. Bearing this in mind the racing was very competitive, especially in the middle distances. Laura Murphy beat her sister Clare in the 1200m with Helen Nelson finishing in third place. Some of the other races are detailed below. |

| Below is the finish to the u15 girls 800m won in very impressive style by Laura Quine who led from the start. Jessica Corrie-Taylor finished a strong second, making up a number of places with a strong finish over the last 300m. Laura normally runs the longer distance and her strength and positive tactics paid off in the difficult conditions, tactics that proved successful in a number of the races. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

| Another excellent race was the u13 girls 800m in which a large contingent of Liverpool Harriers were looking for times. Samantha Mallon built well on her start to the season, following on from the Warrington Open Meeting with 3rd place. Her very strong finish suggested that with a little more experience at the event and better pace judgement she should achieve good times in the future. |

| The finish of the u15 girls 1500m, won very impressively by Melissa Ronan, who led from start to finish. The photo shows the finish for 3rd and 4th place between Stephanie Cray and Emma Chandley of Southport and Waterloo, Stephanie just holding on in a tight finish. |  |
