The artwork of this region is unique and recognised throughout the world as having a very specific stamp that denotes it's origins . As many of the people of this region have lived under periods of extreme oppression,and due to it's high proportion of "stolen generation' people, art has been seen as a tool of restoration of the culture. Therefore much of the art has a contemporary flavour,which reflects the artists search for his identity and culture rthrough his individuality.
I beleive that in the future the Macleay Valley artists will become some of the most sought after indigenous artists in the world, as was the forefather of indigenous artistic revival here, The late Robert Campbell Junior, whose works hang in the national Gallery, and from whom many of the present day artists studied their craft.
