Blind Melon finds it's roots in the amercian classic rock. It was formed in 1989 in LA. Shannon Hoon is the man responsible for the meaningful lyrics. What I could understand from his lyrics is a passion to stay alive and enjoy. How to overcome problems and hold on tight to life. But I think Shannon was looking for more in life. Something he never found. So he starts doing drugs for fun. But later these drugs were not fun anymore.I think he used them to cover up those things he couldn't find in life. I think it wasn't love. His relation with his mother was great. And also with her wife, whom he had a baby girl with. I just know that in this life you will find everything except one thing: A reason to it. We'll never know what troubled shannon's mind. During his last year in life, we could see Shannon wasn't the same guy who was always full of joy. He was full of depression. A depression I never could understand. Maybe it was that he wasn't pleased with the world we live in now, or maybe it was love. Maybe he didn't really love those next to him. If we remeber the lyrics of soul one, Shannon referred to a love that seemed to be the only love whom he never had a chance to say goodbye to. So I guess this love is another different from his wife. But who knows. It seems he loved his wife very much.
Any way, Shannon and his lyrics are a great example. He really was a good person.
But not only because of this is why I consider Blind Melon to be the best band. They really made great music. The music itself fills our spirit with happiness.
