OUR STORY

Believe it or Not

Hello to everyone interested in our site. I thought maybe I would give a short little history on the two of us and how we ended up here in Missouri.

We were married in September 1977. Cindy worked for the USPS loading and unloading mail planes at the OKC Airport and Harold farmed and flew the old mail delivery planes or air taxis as they were called then. Later Harold went to corporate flying and then American Eagle for American Airlines.

We lived and farmed on Harolds home place in Oklahoma for the next 25 years more or less. Cindy is not a native of Oklahoma. She was born in Wisconsin and grew up in the far northeast. We both kept our other jobs too since it is very difficult to make a living by just farming. The farming consisted of beef cattle, cow calf operation, alfalfa and raising winter wheat. We also had a small laying house, fancy chickens, ducks, geese, ginnies, turkeys, and horses. As well as numerous other enjoyable critters along the way.

We had been looking forward to retirement and planned on possibly living in Colorado, where we loved to annually practice retirement. Neither of us liked the hot dry summer and liked the wind even less so our hope was to get away from that if possible.

Eventually Colorado's cost of living gave us the push to look around at other places including building on one of our own properties that was in a canyon out of the wind. Although building was an option we would still have to put up with the sandburs and would have to come up onto the flat land way too often.

One day while looking at Missouri land for a friend I discovered it might be a place worth checking out and showed Harold what I had found. He agreed and we took a four-day trip to look around. We liked what we found here. Henceforth the big farm auction to sell all the farm equipment and household stuff and Harold retired and moved on up. Cindy stayed not quite ready to retire yet, looking for a transfer.  It took a year but finally she found a transfer. At the same time she unexpectedly lost the sight in one eye and an early retirement offer had been offered at the PO so she took it and also retired. Making our final move on up with all of our precious dogs and cats was quite an adventure.

Harold took a job at the Wright County Sheriffs office when he got to Missouri and worked there for about two years. I guess as kind of a wind down time. He is very active in amateur radio and weather and storm spotting in our new community. Harold is also a member of the Otter/Caribou Association Sky Soldiers . They fly at Air Shows around the country. He was crew chief on the Caribou in Vietnam. This one is an original Caribou from the Vietnam War. We are both proud to have served in the military and that he is a part of this fine organization now. If anyone would like to see some photos taken of the air show held in Branson last year on "My Photo Album" page link I have included an album with those pictures and plan on adding more this year.

We have made many good friends here and enjoy our new home.
So that is the very condensed version of how we ended up where we are.
