| Band CIP Camp Day 1 |
| The hc band is
organising a 2-day band camp for 3 sec schools (IIRC), giving them workshops
and sectionals, and they are expected to put up a combined performance in
mid June. I came to school in the afternoon and there was nothing for me to
do...so I just played cards, rest at my bench, walk around, etc...until
sunset where the fun began.... There were games at night and I was involved in the "eating game" where Xinhui was in-charge. The 6 groups of sec 3 juniors (led by a hc band member) were supposed to move from station to station to participate in certain games. The "eating game" was one of the stations. 2 dice are thrown and the number obtained represents the number of different stuff we (the station-keepers) would randomly add into a cup of cherryade; the last item can be chosen by the groups themselves. The 'stuff' includes fresh milk, ginger, pepper, soy sauce, vinegar, curry powder, peanuts, coconut milk, honey syrup, pickled lettuce, tomato sauce... Imagine all these stuff mixed together how e xin would the mixture be! Soon the groups began to arrive one by one and were astonished by what was in stall for them. The highest number thrown was 9 and lowest was 4. Each of the groups managed to finish one full cup of that mixture. As for whether they would get stomachache or not, I cannot guarantee. Also, the 4 stall-keepers (including me) had not tasted the mixture before...hehe. (It really looks very gross to me!) I noticed that every group sure got at least one person who claimed that the 'mixture' tasted good...-__- Vinegar was added most of the time, and milk was the most popular choice made by the groups. Really applaud their bravery to drink such a nauseating 'brew'! |

| Science Research and Innovation Day 3 |
| It was the last
day to complete our speakers. Wenjia went back to Malaysia so I had to work
alone. Fortunately one senior (an old boy from hcjc) offered to help me out.
After testing my speaker, we found out that the main problem was that the
sound produced had too much bass, so we had to make one more 'tweeter' (a
smaller-coned speaker) to balance the sound. Many problems started to follow
up: the connection was too short, soldering wasn't effective, coil was badly
positioned, etc. In the end, other groups were successful in making a good
speaker, while mine still cannot work properly. As a result, the senior
suggested that we let other groups leave the room first while we do our last
test. Sadly, the final test still wasn't successful and the senior said that
the teachers would look into the problem next time. (I doubt so, they would
just throw it away...) There was no band prac on that day and I just went home straight. Thanks a lot to Zhaoyang, Jin Hin and Yujia, whose company made my these 3 days so enjoyable and fun! On Sunday night (or after midnight), I was chatting with someone whom I've never expected myself to chat with. Didn't know he was so 'on' one...got blog... got msn, etc. (Dun ask me who...) |
| 28 May Friday |
| Science Research and Innovation Day 2 |
| We continued to
work on our speakers. This time Wenjia and I did more work than yesterday,
we managed to make a prototype speaker which was quite good. Then we
proceeded to make our outer casing using a cardboard box from the bookshop.
However the sound deteriorated as there was more bass than the higher
frequency sound. At the end of the session, one group managed to make a nice
speaker with splendid sound quality...haiz...wang chen mo ji... I'm supposed to go for a trip to St John's Island but Wenjia didn't want to go and I've no friends there either, so I decided to pon the trip and go with Zhaoyang, Jin Hin and Yujia to Science Centre Omni-theatre to watch Top Speed movie. As Kunna was not going, I took over her place. The 4 of us went to Coro's Prince to eat...then the 'Yujia-and-me' thingy started again.... -___- After eating, we went to the toilet and Jin Hin and Zhaoyang went off first, leaving Yujia and me behind...-____- Both of us gave up trying to chase them in the NTUC supermarket and we went to kop some postcards instead. Then Jin Hin and Zhaoyang quickly took out their videocam and hp respectively trying to capture me and Yujia together... -_____-Yujia was a bit angry but she ended up laughing instead... We went back to the Zen Garden to listen to some music and play bridge. Saw Miss Ng, Mrs Ke, and other tchs teachers walk through the area. (of course we covered up our cards lah) After 2 games, which Jin Hin and Yujia won both, we boarded the bus. The 'Yujia-and-me' thingy continued again...-______- and Jin Hin used his videocam again to shoot me and Yujia sitting together. However this was getting a little boring liao so Yujia became the Mummy, I became the Daddy, and Jin Hin and Zhaoyang became our children... -__________- As we waited outside the omni-theatre for the show to start at 4 pm, I went to read some interesting facts, looked around the shop, etc... Then the 4 of us bought a bucket of popcorn. As there was another huge group of children watching the same movie, by the time we went in there were no more good seats left so we had no choice but to sit in front. I had to lie my head sooo low down the chair, and even with that I was still unable to see the top screen. As a result, we had to put our legs onto the chair in front to make ourselves feel comfortable...so shi1 tai4... The movie was ok lah...quite informative and got a lot of nice scenery too! And there were a lot of scenes shot in a first-person angle which made us feel like we were travelling at high speed in the vehicle. After the 40 min movie ended, we looked around the exhibition hall at the back of the theatre and played with some of the interesting stuff there....very fun...haha. Then everyone went home...fortunately I've got a direct bus to my place! Hehe. |
| 27 May Thursday |
| Science Research and Innovation Day 1 |
| Went to school quite early and saw that the seniors had not
started lessons yet. Then I went to LT1 to attend a talk introducing science
research...quite interesting. (esp when I am paying attention all the way)
After the talk, we were assigned to do one of the research programmes like
bio, chem and physics. Most S7s did bio, most S6s and some S7s did chem, and
the remaining S3s did physics. Was expecting to go for chem but there were a
lot of ppl in that programme liao, and also physics research was held in the
air-con project room...so not very bad after all. We were given a short
break before reporting to our respective research programmes. When I just entered the project room, we were immediately greeted by a bowl-haired ang-moh teacher who briefed us on making our own speaker using knowledge abt the turning effects of magnetic field on a coil. Without much explanation, he let us free to 'invent' our own speaker. I was bewildered and did not know what to do at first cos I lost touch with my magnetism topic liao. With the help of Wenjia, who was working with me, I managed to see the structure of a basic speaker. Quite simple after all! Then we began to make a rough model of the speaker We tested our 'rough' speaker once but it didn't work well...maybe our speaker was just not sturdy enough.. Soon the programme ended and there was another small break before proceeding with our learning journeys. Yujia so poor thing, always got bullied by Jin Hin who had a sms from her saying that she's a lesbian. (obviously someone took her hp and did that) Upon reaching Great World City, we were given 1/2 hour to walk around the shopping centre as the Apollo 13 movie was delayed. The 5 of us: Jin Hin, Zhaoyang, Yujia, Kunna and me went together to check the buses which we could take when we leave the place. The IMAX movie theatre was rather empty and only a few seats at the back rows were occupied. Jin Hin was trying to make Yujia and me sit close together... -_- (the scandal between Yujia and me...dunno when it came about one....) Soon the movie started...it was 2 hrs in all. I feel that only the launching of rocket and the landing to Earth parts were interesting... other parts were just plain boring, with all those chim technical stuff which I hardly understood. Almost fell asleep in the middle of the show. On the other hand, Yujia was freezing cold, as well as most ppl too. The movie ended at 4.30pm, and since we were already at the cinema, I suggested to watch The Day After Tomorrow. Jin Hin and Yujia agreed to watch. Zhaoyang said that he could not stand watching 2 movies in a row. As it was the first opening day of the movie, a ticket costs $7.50 instead. After much consideration, I bought 3 tickets for 6.30pm. After that, the 5 of us went to KFC to eat a family meal. We took quite a while to split the food among 5 ppl. The 'Yujia-and-me' thingy continued... -__- After eating, Zhaoyang and Kunna went back to school while Jin Hin, Yujia and I continued to walk around the shopping centre looking at different stuffs. Finally it was 6.20 liao...we bought a box of popcorn and went into the theatre. We were lucky to get a good seat: 2nd last row in the middle. We waited and waited and waited very long for the movie to start...then there was an announcement saying that due to technical faults we had to wait 10 min more. So we began to take out our hps to play. Then we waited and waited again but the screen was still blank. Our popcorn was like one quarter left...we began to curse and swear.... At abt 7.05, we were forced to move into another theatre, which was showing the same movie but much bigger. (21 rows of seats!) Unfortunately 3 of us got the 2nd last row corner, which was sooooooo far away from the screen. So we decided to move a few rows in front...lucky there were no one sitting there! The long awaited movie finally started. I like the watch the 'disasterrific' scenes esp the tornado in Los Angelo's and flood in New York. However the main story is about a father trying to rescue his son from the disaster...(reminds me of Finding Nemo) I won't reveal much...see for yourself! When the movie ended it was already quite late liao...luckily there was direct bus to Bukit Panjang, but unluckily it took a veryyy long-winded way to reach there... |
| 26 May Wednesday |
| Shrek 2 |
| Played Bridge
with Yong Feng before going to watch Shrek 2...he thrashed 13-0 during one
game...that's so qiang! Seems like he's playing better than me liao...and as
addicted to Bridge as me...haha. After that, I arrived late at Cineleisure
and everyone was waiting for me at the cinema entrance. The movie shld have
started by then but surprisingly there were a lot of commercials and the
proper show started even later.
Yup...Shrek 2 is very very funny...I like Puss in boots...sooo cute! There were a lot of storybook characters too, like Fairy Godmother (she's quite evil in the movie), Pinocchio, Gingerbread man, 3 little pigs, blah blah. If you want to have a good laugh, I recommend this movie! (Yong Feng was laughing hysterically at the end) I think it is a bit short...abt one and half hour only. After watching, the 4 of us went to Taka to take pics for a while. Then we decided to meet online and play contract bridge at yahoo instead of finding a suitable place to settle down. |
| 25 May Tuesday |
| Golf @ Seletar Day 2 |
| I
came to school early to do a sheet of questions abt golf rules. At 9 am we
went to the same place again...this time we started lessons on time. Then we
were told to buy the tees again for $2 just becos we left our tees behind
yesterday...grrr....cheat our money! I became very bu fu and koped one golf
ball when the coaches weren't looking. Elise also, but she has already so
many golf balls at home. We continued to practise on long-ranged shots
called driving...I think I can aim better liao...but not good enough to pass
the 50m mark. Then the coach videotaped us one by one taking 4 shots each. I
think I'm the lousiest players in my team lor...my ball kept going
sideways...very short distance also. After all was over, we went into a room
where the coach showed us what he had taped and pointed out our mistakes in
our posture. After we went for some practice on swinging, then driving, then
chipping, before dismissing us for lunch break. The coaches ordered Hawaiian pizzas for us...I ate 3 slices...very tasty! Saw Miss Chen play a few balls too! I went to the club cafe to rest for a while before going to the small field where we practised chipping and putting like the day before. There was a mini competition within my group where I partnered with Elise and scored +1, not bad...considering we scored -1 in our first hole. (btw in golf the lower the score the better) Then we attempted sand bunking for a while before discussing the questions abt golf rules. Lastly, there was a competition among the 4 groups with 2 ppl representing each group. My group scored the lowest point of 6...yay...but tied with another group... (tsk tsk...Jeff, must practise harder!) Then it was goodbye time...golf's very fun! ^_^ Just knew that Elise is going to US to study liao. She'll be leaving at around August...Hope she will enjoy herself there! |
| 24 May Monday |
| Golf @ Seletar Day 1 |
| There was a
traffic jam in the morning so I arrived to school a bit late. Jeff and Elise
were there too (clarinet ppl are rich eh?). Then we set off for the
Seletar Camp Golf Course. I expected it to be big, spacious and has carpeted
grass, but we ended up in a small field with za2 cao3 instead. We were
separated to 4 groups led by one coach each. When the lesson finally began,
it was already 10.30 (half an hour lost...equivalent to abt $15 of our
course fee). My coach speaks rather softly and boringly until I feel like
sleeping liao. We were introduced to different types of golf clubs and their
uses. Then we were taught how to hold the clubs properly and swing. (which
made my hands and waist very suan leh)
We practised how to shoot for long range...but I kept missing the ball...hehe...maybe I swing too fast liao. Then we went to practise shorter ranged shots called chipping...much better since dun need to use so much strength and I didn't miss as much too. But must control the speed of the ball in order not to overshoot or undershoot. After that was lunch...the service of the food court was so poor lor...take so long to deliver our food! So expensive somemore! The best part of the day IMO was after lunch where we went to a small field to practise a even shorter ranged shots called putting. So easy to aim...hehe...though some skills is still needed. My group had a mini tournament where we competed on our skills for chipping and putting combined. Sometimes things just dun go as well as expected. Didn't score very well lah...just moderate...though I made many mistakes but other ppl also. Just as I was beginning to enjoy the competition, it was 4.00 and we had to leave liao. We were sent back to school first then I decided to go Bishan to watch Van Helsing cos it had the earliest time. Qi Qi also wanted to watch so we went to watch together lor. The movie is filled with a lot of action, but the story is very weak...I couldn't understand many parts of the story. But overall ok lah...though I still think Troy is better. Ya...Zhaoyang invited me to watch Shrek 2 on Wed...looking forward to it! |
| 22 & 23 May Saturday and Sunday |
| Farewell Outng |
| Yesterday
morning, the J1s were supposed to report to the audi for an EDB talk where 3
teams presented their business ideas abt Mugger's Cafe, Games Rental and
some SMS service. I was busy writing letter to my angel and scotch-taping
the postcards...luckily Mdm Yeo didn't notice. Oh yah...I suspect my angel
is Shuangning...which I'm 95% sure now unlike my previous guess. (only 50%
sure) During the reception I took some beehoon to eat...hmm....just by
attending this talk already got free food to eat liao...haha. The 2nd half
was a bit sian, then Wenjia introduced his comics to me. Finally at abt
12.20pm the talk ended. During band prac the SCs were trying out new pieces for our repertoire for the coming heritage performance. (???) We played the choice piece for SYF 2001 (memories....silver..) as well as some chinese folk songs... (shld be played by the chinese orchestra instead) Band prac ended quite early so I played bridge with Xiaoxuan for a while before setting off to orchard with Michelle (Ang). I chatted with Michelle on the bus (she's still as funny as ever) until we reached our destinations... I went around the Dhoby Ghaut station and saw Zhe Han first, followed by Zhaoyang, then Yong Feng and Jin Hin, who were very late. We went up to the cinema at Plaza Singapura and saw the queue was super crowded. Then there was an announcement saying that a lot of movie slots were full, or left with the first few rows from the screen. (kinda expected cos it was Saturday night) I wanted to watch Van Helsing but it was only showed at around midnight....sob. Soon Sing Ying came to join us. Yup...saw Xiaoxuan and company as well...they were planning to watch Troy but there's really no seats left. We decided not to watch movie so we went Pizza Hut to eat instead. (yup...the food was delicious!) We also played 'zhong ji mi ma'...I lost the first two games lor...so unlucky :( But Zhe Han lost more than me...haha. Yong Feng never seemed to "zhong" one lor! Just as we were going to leave, I saw Kaizhi and Lijia...but I'm too far away to say hi to them liao. Shortly after I saw Shukin at the escalator...so many coincidences. Then Jin Hin left. So we made our way to a food court nearby...hoping we could play cards there. But it was too noticeable liao so we did Zhaoyang's PW survey instead. Then Sing Ying left. The 4 of us finally decided to go Fort Canning to play cards. We sat down on a small path, which was dim and stuffy. We played and played until abt 11 pm...really enjoyed the game! Hopefully this is a good enough farewell outing for Zhe Han... (maybe next time we shld organise a Bridge gathering at someone's house?) Yup...tmr I'm going for Golf in Seletar...hope it would be fun! |
| 21 May Friday |
| Kai Zhi's birthday |
| First period was
GP, where we had to do an essay outline...sian1/2... Then I got back my GP
essay...26/50..sian 0/2. After that was PW at com lab again...finally we can
start our project proper liao! During break the class gathered at the
canteen and took pics with Miss Wee. She's really different outside the
classroom when she didn't try to act cool. During maths tutorial, Mr Koh
posed us a question that seemed impossible to solve, but I finally solved
it! I'm so clever! ^_^ Physics tutorial was 2 periods but the worst thing was I didn't do the tutorials at all so I didn't know what Miss Chong was talking about. Then it was Physics SPA...the paper is much much easier than the previous one so I can finish in time...however I last minute then found out that I drew the wrong best fit line so I quickly change the coordinates of one point and fake that reading in the table. (from the liquid paper marks, I think my faking was rather obvious!) My group went to discuss our project before going to the canteen again to celebrate the farewell party for Miss Chong and Miss Wee as well as Kaizhi's Birthday!!! Even though quite a lot of ppl didn't prepare a present for him, hope he still enjoyed the cake. Hmm...still thinking what to buy for him... Yup...today is like the start of the holidays liao since next week is Enrichment Week...yay!!...so slack hor? As for Jubilation concert, I dun think I'll be going unless someone else go with me... |
| 20 May Thursday |
| Council Investiture |
| First 4 periods
there was council investiture in audi. (so no chem lecture and PE...yay!)
This marks the stepping down of the J2 councilors and the taking over of the
J1 councilors. It was quite an important event as there were councilors from
other schools and the VIPs were present. The event started with the J2
councilors holding lightsticks and walking around the audi, before they were
seated on the stage. Next was the speech by Mr Ang and the guest of honour...then
certificate presentation. The interesting part was when every councilor
couple presented a short item...some were funny..haha. There was an interval
before the 2nd part of the investiture commenced...which was abt the J1
councilors liao. (btw I counted 18 boys and 26 girls altogether...girls
power!) The new councilors were introduced their post. Then there was
pledging and some singing before the event ended. Judging from the high
spirits of the councilors, I can see that being in the student council is
indeed very fun and enjoyable! There was a 1 hour break before lessons resumed...chem prac followed by Maths lecture, where a person was invited to teach us the use of graphic calculator. He showed us many interesting functions on the calculator and hopefully they'll be useful for solving F maths questions. Then he also showed us some applications that he downloaded from the net. Quite amazing, esp the world geography statistics. Maybe I shld go and download some of them next time! After that we were dismissed...what a short day! Heard that tmr is Kaizhi's birthday...but I dunno what to give him... |
| 19 May Wednesday |
| Movie Outing |
| It rained this
morning so no flag raising...then I went to a classroom for a briefing on
the golf programme. As I've only got the edusave form today, I couldn't make
my payment yet. $250...still think it's very expensive... After that was PW
where we received our 3rd proposal back. It was approved, as expected, but I
think our suggestions weren't good enough. Towards the end, we began to make
a lot of noise and I started to ask Mr Koh abt vectors. Felt that he a bit
ke lian...can't do anything but to watch us misbehave. Physics lecture was pretty slack as we finished the notes early and spent the rest of the time doing a worksheet...I only attempted a few questions and copied the others. Still very confused with thermodynamics...must be becos of the lecturer. Actually there wasn't supposed to have any lessons during maths lecture today, but tmr there's a course teaching us how to use graphic calculator so we continued "Integration". Kaizhi and Wenjia not around so I just sat by myself. Ms Kwee was pretty nice today...she told us a riddle and here goes: What is the difference between jumping down from 2nd storey and jumping down from 20th storey? The answer is: When jumping from 20th storey, it would go "ARGGGGGHHHHHHH...POOM!" When jumping from 2nd storey, it would go "POOM..ARGGGGGHHHHHHH!" Lame right? CT session was in the classroom. I took out my vectors tutorial and do while Mdm Yeo was settling admin stuff. Also, Thazin went to irritate me while I was doing the tutorial...find her soooo irritating...esp her good-for-nothing mouth. Then the class started to discuss abt the homecoming carnival stall...we are going to sell "Eight Treasures Porridge" (Ba1 Bao3 Zhou1...nvr heard before...) and dumplings...I am in charge of buying ingredients. After that someone suggested a class movie outing this afternoon since there's no CCA today. (the J2s weren't around) Most PRCs were going and some ppl like Mong Seng and Youcheng agreed to go too. So I also went along lor. The class bench area was rather empty this afternoon. I was busy filling up the numerous indemnity forms. When everyone had gathered we set off to Cineleisure where Zhang Li and Zu Yuan were already there buying tickets for us first. There were 13 ppl watching the movie in all. Youcheng and I quickly went to Long John Silver to buy some food and drinks before the movie started. (Aiyoh...the escalators there very the inaccessible...) Oh yah...we watched 'Troy' btw. Very very nice...some parts very zhuang4 guan1, esp the beautiful scenery and fighting scenes while some parts a bit sad, esp when ppl die. Overall the show got a lot of war and fighting scenes but I like them a lot! Some parts also made me very nervous...while some parts made my hair stand. Those who haven't watch one must go and watch! After the abt 2h30min movie, we went to Takashimaya MacDonalds to eat...then ppl started talking abt the characters in the movie. My fave character is Archilles (sp?)...very the ying xiong! After eating then we went home lor. Wah...never expect today to be such a long day for me...but "Troy" is worth watching! |
| 18 May Tuesday |
| Maths Week |
| This week is
supposed to be Maths Week. For the first 2 periods today, the J1s went to
the audi to listen to some boring talk abt decoding and cryptography. (The
speaker shld try to clear his throat first before speaking...) Some ppl who
signed up, went for the Maths Trail instead, a game where teams move from
station to station to solve interesting puzzles. (regretted not going for
that) After the talk, we were scolded (again...) becos we were not paying
attention to the speaker. Ya...Mdm Yeo returned us the Maths Test papers...that's fast! Most ppl scored better than the previous maths test. As for me, I got 43/50 at first...then I went to clarify something and Mdm Yeo added 1 more mark So now it is 44. I think she marked quite leniently already cos I made many minor mistakes and she didn't penalise. During break I queued up for very very long before buying my food...apparently some ppl were cutting queue. After that was GP where we went through our compre. Got 23.5/50....so sad. Then it was chem lecture test...25 MCQs only. Some questions were rather tricky and I didn't know how to do some qns. So end up I got abt 19/25...must jia yu lor... Mdm Ching a bit the blur...gave so many wrong answers. During PE I went to play basketball...haha...actually not really lah...I dunno how to play and stood around like a statue liddat. Didn't even get to shoot lor...haiz nvm, my aiming is lousy anyway. Bingye is so shen...can shoot until so well... When I was going home, I met Huiru at the bus stop so I chatted with her on the way home...didn't know that she performed in musical soiree! (--o^_^)---o(x_x) <<<<< nice rite? |
| 16 & 17 May Sunday & Monday |
| Maths Lecture test... |
| Studied until 4
am yesterday for this test...quite happy to say that this test is relatively
easier than the previous algebra test. Was busy giving out question papers
and formula booklets for my class so when I finally sat down to attempt the
questions, I wasn't very prepared at all. Fortunately I did the paper quite
fast, but still was unable to do one part of a question which costs me 6
marks!!! But overall it was okay...there weren't a lot of questions and the
questions were quite straightforward...Figured out how to do that 6-mark
question just soon after the test ended...so ke3 xi1. Many ppl (including
me) weren't paying attention to Miss Chong cos we were still pondering over
the test. During break I chatted with Jia Ling...yup...must get past this hectic week first then can relax liao! (haiz...actually still got PW and block test to study...) During Physics lecture, the lecturer was throwing tantrums: he just let us copy and copy and refused to explain anything. Then Mdm Yeo's tutorial was about doing a worksheet with a graphic calculator. Surprisingly Miss Wee was talking all the way during chem tutorial and didn't call anyone to answer anything....not to forget this is her last week teaching us liao...yay! GP was boring...doing 4 AQ questions...!@#$% |
| 15 May Saturday |
| Musical Soiree |
|
Went to school early even though band would start at 1pm. 4 hours yet only could finish one tutorial...spent most of the time thinking of those difficult questions. During the afternoon, the band gathered in the music room for exco elections. It was a longgggg Q&A session with 17 nominees. Very boring except for some funny parts. Finally we were allowed to vote for 9 ppl out of 17 nominees. Results were tallied as soon as everyone handed up their voting slips. Then there was a second round of voting where we chose the Band Major and Assistant out of 4 ppl. Again the results were immediately tallied and the final list was out....Jun Yang is the BM while Elaine is the ABM, (Never spoke to 2 of them before...hopefully they can lead the band well...) followed by the 7 other exco. Congrats to them! Went home to take my Soiree ticket before going back to school again...what a waste of time! When I entered the audi, it was already filled with ppl. I can't find anyone to sit with, then Mong Seng approached me so I sat with him lor. Soon after the audi went dark the the concert began. I spotted Chen Yu and Chen Kan in the harmonica band and saw Khai Qing, Shuang Ning and Han Xiao in the guitar ensemble. Didn't notice Zhang Li and Zu Yuan until much later in the concert....didn't see Chen Xi on stage but saw him at the audience seats. Ya...I like the cartoons music part....so cute! And the story abt a couple's life on powerpoint slides also! So touching...harmonica player also very pro! Then there was an interval, followed by a drama skit abt love...but due to the poor sound system I couldn't understand the story at all...ya, saw Rosemary too! There was a special item brought by 3 harmonica guys, which wasn't shown in the programme book. Dunno how to describe...but...it was really funny! Hahaha... The final item was harmonica and guitar combined...they played a weird piece which sounds quite nice to me. After that, ppl shouted encore (as expected), and they played the same piece again but slightly shorter (the PA ppl were playing around with the lightings...haha). Then finally the concert ended. Felt very tired so I went home quickly. |
| 14 May Friday |
| Chem Olympiad selection test |
| Before going for
first period, I went to the science notice board and registered my name for
2 learning journeys: IMax Movie and trip to St John. Most probably need to
pay for them... During GP we did compre as Mrs Soo was absent, but many were
unable to finish the summary and AQ when they handed in. After that was PW
where I was supposed to write the 3rd and final proposal. Saw the proposal
of the approved group...so detailed and well-planned!
Some of us went to Chinese High canteen to eat...but I dun really like the cai4 fan4 there. Luckily the place wasn't crowded at that time so I had a good meal.... Mdm Yeo's tutorial was abt teaching us how to use the graphic calculator. Mr Koh and another teacher sat for the tutorial too. Then Kaizhi was complaining that Mdm Yeo's calculator is sooo fast in plotting graphs...haha. Too bad already bought a calculator liao so no use in buying the faster version one. Realised that polar graphs are very very weird...but the patterns it can create are very nice! After lessons were over, I studied chem for a while in the library before going for sectionals where the J1s were supposed to take turns to conduct the section. Everyone took their turn except me cos by the time I had to leave for the selection test liao. Btw I had never conducted a section before in all my years in band, so I dun think I can do a good job. Went to take the selection test...there were more ppl than expected. We were given an hour to do 4 free-response questions. When I looked at the first question I was already stunned! There was a bunch of info and I didn't know how to make use of all of them. The rest of the paper weren't any better...the questions were horribly difficult and I left a lot blank. When I handed up the paper, Mr Lee took my paper to see somemore! Bet he would be very disappointed with my performance...haiz...just hope for the best lor. |
| 13 May Thursday |
| Napfa 2.4km run |
| During PE lesson
we gathered in the hall to do some warm-ups first before setting off for the
tchs tracks. Like the last time we ran there, it was still scorching hot.
Luckily got some wind, unlike the previous mornings. Clocked 13 min 15
s...barely passed for 16 years old. At least it was better than the previous
trial run. After we ran, we waited to record our number cards, then some of
us realised that the rest of the class disappeared, esp the PRC scholars. We
did not know what to do without the class record list. Soon Say Kai and Wen
Jia found out that they went to the hall. Some ppl became angry and started
to curse and swear abt the PRCs. When we reached the hall, Zhang Li and Zu
Yuan were waiting for us....and Mr Lim was angry at first, but then
explained that how record list was left in the hall....apparently he called
the class to go to the hall but some of us didn't hear him. Misunderstanding
solved. Seeing Mr Lee always makes me so stressed...esp when I didn't perform as well as he expects...me doing the prac too slowly....and he spotted a mistake in my tutorial...so stressed so stressed... Today is supposed to be the last maths lecture this term cos next week is maths week where we will be doing some maths enrichment thingy during lectures. Also the last week of this term is enrichment week so no lessons...yay! Realised that I got a lot of names lately...rong-ge, rong-jie, rong-ma, etc...all thanks to Kaizhi. (see? I mentioned your name already!) My name is made in such a way that it can be teased easily...haiz. Btw I just bought a graphic calculator...going to play around with it liao... |

| Nostalgia |
| 2nd PW proposal
rejected. Only one proposal out of the 5 groups got approved. Anyway just
have to touch up a bit here and there so shld be ok for the 3rd one already.
During CT session we were supposed to discuss questions on S-cube thingy,
then Jieying and I began to talk abt chen2 nian2 wang3 shi4 --- classic TV
drama serials. We talked abt Mi Li Ye, Jin Pai Shi Ye, and other classic
telemovies. Finally found someone who appreciates classic serials like me...yay!
Felt myself like going back into time...what a nostalgic experience!
The S-cube talk was a bit boring, except for the videos and the skit... (the girl trying to act funny...) Haiz...thinking abt how would life be in NS... After that band prac was abt student conductor selection. Hope Zhi Wei gets in. |

| 11 May Tuesday |
| Ghost Stories |
| GP was
practically a ghost stories sharing session among my group members. It all
started because of the discussion on religions. Jieying and Kaizhi were the
main speakers, talking abt their supernatural experiences during their
chalets, incidents in Dunman High, etc. While Shuk In seemed to be so
frightened by everything they said...haha. Didn't know that Dunman High got
so many ghost stories, esp the mirror in the toilet thingy...even the school
sealed off the toilet...must be very serious. Ya...just found out that Yu
Jia has "Yin1 Yang2 Yan3" according to Jieying...now I understand abt the
under-the-bed thingy that she told us during the Marina Bay outing...
Then during Chem lecture, Wenjia continued to tell me abt another ghost
story. Wah...next time we must have a ghost-story-telling session! Afternoon PE was so sian. At first we were told to run for 12 min around the field but after that Mrs Goh dun believe that we ran for that amount of time so she told us to run for another 8 min again, while she watches us from the top. After that proper 8-min-run, she took attendance one by one. We had a nice time trying to "bluff" her on the attendance...haha. I dun think I can get silver for napfa liao...so must continue to train up for the subsequent afternoon PEs...haiz I'm one of the 8 in my class to get selected for the Chem Olympiad selection test. Sooooo many ppl got selected from other classes...a bit no confidence to get in liao. Mr Lee seems to give me a lot of pressure abt that...no choice but to study harder lor! |
| 10 May Monday |
| After a storm... |
| Phew...today
spells the end of the hectic week I had last week. Maths lecture was short
and simple. Ya...the 'old' Miss Chong came back from America already! Still
find her teaching much better and easier to understand...haha. During break
Chen Yu, Wenjia and I went to the library to quickly copy stuff for the time
tunnel thingy. Dun find any use in those historical and cultural info for
GP. Physics lecture was going even faster...no time for me to digest the
topic!
GP lesson was a presentation abt races. Took the opportunity to write my final 16th journal entry abt this topic. So easy to write...just take the ideas from the powerpoint the can liao! Realised that a lot of ppl wrote responses to newsweek articles, unlike me who wrote something different...and cheated somemore...haha...shh...dun tell you. (Without cheating I wouldn't be able to complete 11 journals yesterday liao!) Tries not to sleep during afternoon liao cos I feel like watching Xi3 Ling2 Men2. |
| 8 & 9 May Saturday and Sunday |
| Combined Sports Meet |
|
Arrived late at the terraces on yesterday (Saturday) morning...but luckily
attendance still taken. Missed the performance by Nanyang girls...*thinking
abt their performance 2 years ago...haha*. It was very crowded but luckily I
managed to find Chen Yu, Wenjia and Jialing and sit with them. Others
(besides councilors) xia luo bu ming. Was sitting beside the Nanyang girls,
found it a bit awkward to take out my maths tutorial and mug...haha. But
eventually I took it out anyway. Found out that Nanyang girls were the most
enthu in cheering for their athletes...and their cheers are much nicer to
listen too! Some boring events...didn't watch them... Then the group of s3 and s6 ppl were moved to the other side of the terraces to join up with the s7 and Arts ppl. And we continued to cheer and cheer...with the new batch of councilors leading us. As I was sitting at the second row of the terraces, I stopped mugging and started to participate in the cheering. Chen Yu, Wenjia and Jialing were discussing their project so I felt a bit bored. Watched certain events...s3 came in first in the A boys relay...yay! It started to drizzle but it didn't last long. The events continued...was feeling very very bored until the 16 x 200m relay. Each team consists of 4 Nanyang girls, 4 tchs boys, 4 hcjc girls and 4 hcjc boys. Soon after that was the staff race, where many students gathered at the side of the track to watch. There was a novelty race first, where the teachers played with some kind of huge ball...., followed by a 4 x 100m relay. After all the events were over, I wanted to leave by walking towards the tchs front gate...then I saw Jeffrey Lim shouting at the tchs boys to return to the terraces. However I kept calm and continued to walked past him and the NPCC ppl...luckily they didn't stop me or anything...what a close shave! Just to be safe, I made a U-turn at the road and walked towards the tchs back gate instead. Many Nanyang girls were walking along the slope so I tot I shld be very safe. Moreover there was no one patrolling around that area. Halfway walking down the slope, I heard someone speak through the mike that we were not dismissed yet and were to return back to the terraces immediately. Many ppl at the slope ignored the speaker and continued walking until the speaker said "We can see you from here..." This made many Nanyang girls freeze at their tracks. They turned and looked back for a while before walking back to the terraces... Aiyoh... As for me I tried not to look back and walked even quickly towards the bus stop. No way I'm going all the way back again! I bet no one recognised me anyway...even if some do, they won't do anything abt it. Escape successful! No band on that day so I went home straight. Now I'm working on my journals...8 more entries to go... |
| 7 May Friday |
| GP Madness! |
| Whoa...by next
Mon I have to prepare so many GP stuff... 1) GP file (which I have yet to
arrange) 2) 16 Journal Entries!! (I did 5 already so 11 more to go...can die
one leh) 3) Time Tunnel research (we were given this task abt 6 weeks ago
and nobody seems to have touched on it...moreover only Wenjia and me are
doing together...sure cannot finish in time one) Mrs Soo is already unhappy
with our slackiness liao, so if we cannot complete these stuff she would be
even angrier (or upset). Not good for pregnant women... Did GP essay for the first period (expect to get abt 26 marks again...), followed by PW where we began on our 2nd proposal. During break I went to try a new stall selling mee then I found an egg shell in my char kuey tiao...eeeks. During Maths tutorial Mr Koh returned us our test papers...I got 30/50...somewhere in the middle. (I hope...) Some failed the test and were very upset. If this test carries 7.5% of the total C Maths score of this year, this means I got 4.5% only...lost 3.0%...hopefully analysis lecture test can compensate for it ... Went to Coro to buy Mothers' Day present for Michelle... Tmr is the TCHS, NYGH and HCJC combined sports meet, have to report to the tracks by 7.20am..so early.. Wonder how the 3 schools can squeeze into the terraces...somemore got that shelter too...how to watch the events with that thingy blocking our view??? Bet many ppl will feel sian diao and will start to zao, play their own games, mug, etc. If got the chance to zao then I will zao...hopefully can find some place to play cards....hehe. (provided got enough ppl first) Dunno if tmr got band in afternoon or not... Yup...as for the chem quiz yesterday, nobody came to tell me the answers except Yong Feng, who only got 2 correct. (Want to try again?) If no one else tells me the answer by the next week then I can save my chocolates liao. |
| 6 May Thursday |
| NAPFA test; Chem SPA |
| NAPFA test 5
items today becos of the rain, then next week would be 2.4 km run. We
gathered in the hall and the girls and boys of each class went separately.
Did pull-up first...3 times only...haiz...couldn't reach the '5' mark. Next
was shutter run...10.6 sec...not good also. Third was sit-up...35
times...I'm always poor in sit-ups anyway...diaphragm got no strength. Then
we went to do sit and reach...36cm...lousy. The final station was standing
broad jump, where I attempted twice. First time was 204cm, second was
218cm...huge gap eh? Oh...btw I'm still 16+ and if you didn't noticed, I
scored EDDDD for the 5 items according to my age. Far far far from 17 years
old Silver award (ie. what I need to score if I want to enter NS at a later
date) Overall results...very bad...haiz...... After that was Chem SPA, I think the paper is very easy...even I being a slowpoke can finish it in time. Titration is straight foward and the questions consist of calculations only, no "extra" questions. I forgot how to ask the invigilator (ie. Mr Lee) for the colour of the solution then he taught me to say "Has the colour change?" or "Is the colour XXX?". (Aiyah...O lvl that time I didn't ask anyone mah!) The final answer is rather easy to confirm since the aim of the entire experiment is to find out the value of x in FeSO4.xH2O water of crystallisation thingy. Let see...FeSO4.7H2O ...looks very correct right? Haha... If got CuSO4.xH2O then even better...everyone would expect x to be 5. Quiz!! What is the value of x in these hydrates? i) CaSO4.xH2O (hint: lecture test...) ii) CaCl2.xH2O iii) CoCl2.xH2O iv) MgSO4.xH2O v) Na2CO3.xH2O Those who tell me all the correct answers can get a chocolate from me! n_n. (Hey this is very useful leh...can help you predict the formulas during practicals!) |
| 5 May Wednesday |
| Netball finals |
| Happy
that my PW is beginning to take shape liao...at least it is much focused
than the previous proposal, but still a bit unclear at certain parts.
Physics lecture was a new topic on Thermodynamics. The lecturer Mr Koh was
going extremely fast, probably cos we have learnt most of it in O lvl
already. CT session was held in the audi where Mr Pang spoke abt some
discipline problems and rules, then we were given a survey abt the school
rules and the canteen facilities. After school S3 and Arts were supposed to go Toa Payoh Sports Hall to cheer for the netball team. Wenjia was pissed that he couldn't perform in the choir...never seen him so angry before...scary... As for me I wouldn't mind missing any band pracs or performances...cos me no enthusiasm in band...haha. The indoor court was bigger than I expect...and air-conditioned too! Spent most of the time standing up and cheering for the girls...a very interesting match! HCJC vs ACJC, 4 quarters which lasted abt 15 min each. Our netball team played well and shot with high accuracy...hence we were leading for every quarter of match. The first 3 quarters were fine until the last quarter, where our team started to make many mistakes and the acjc team began to yue4 zhan4 yue4 yong3 and scored many shots. When the match ended, our team won acjc by 6 points! Our netball team is the champion! Yay! |
| 4 May Tuesday |
| Argh...Maths test!!! |
| My prediction is
correct... (see the 27 April "Must work harder" entry) Haiz...made careless
mistakes, confused at some parts, dun know how to do some questions...really
not as good as expected. Left many parts blank, partly becos I was too slow.
First question abt partial fractions already cannot complete liao...didn't
realised it was an improper fraction. Overall very bad...but I am not
alone...since everyone else in my class was cursing and swearing as well
after the test. Can get 30 and above then very happy liao. Upset abt the
fact that I did my tutorials consistently and studied for the test until
2.30 am yesterday, but yet still did poorly. Wondering if the analysis
lecture test would be even worse... GP lesson was very boring, maybe becos Mr Robert Wilks was observing the class hence the entire lesson was very stiff. After that was Chem lecture where everybody was stunned by the sudden spring test on what we did last lecture. Shuk In had all the answers for the mcqs from her friends. I didn't hear what she said so I did the questions on my own...you see? I got integrity! Chem tutorial was next and another relief teacher Miss Leong took over the tutorial becos Miss Wee had something on. She is very very different from Miss Wee lor...so nice and sweet. I think the way she speaks is very funny, but I like it...hehe...her explanation is clear and understandable unlike Wee. Wished that she can be our chem tutor ah...... First lesson only and everyone in the class already like her liao...such power! After many months the class finally had the first proper afternoon PE today. Did some running, jumping and pulling, for preparation of this thursday's NAPFA test. Just hope that this hectic week can quickly pass.... Abt the Week 10 Enrichment thingy, I chose Golf (Seletar) but didn't know that the fees would be soooo high. ($230) Since cannot change liao so just let it be lor... |
| 2 & 3 May Sunday & Monday |
| Busy week |
| This week is
going to be a really busy week...with 4 tests! Didn't really have much time
to catch up during this weekend. Woke up at 2 pm on Sunday...(latest
record!) Most probably due to lack of sleep recently becos of playing online
bridge. Yup...all thanks to Xiaoxuan who guided me through the game...I
think I am improving a bit liao... Online bridge anyone?? Haha.... During Maths lecture Ms Kwee was really unhappy with s34 becos we were too noisy liao....I'm not involved in this... During break we took a class photo...finally...hope I look nice in the photo...haha.. Then it was physics test...relatively easy paper, just apply the formula then can liao. Not much worries abt it. In chem tutorial Miss Wee told me to do the born haber diagram on the board...glad that I did it correctly, but took a bit the long ah...nvm...her tutorials are all abt stalling time... I can see that Mrs Soo is already upset that the class is still slacking away and not putting in enough effort in her GP work and assignments. True lah...nobody seems to care abt GP homework. Aiyah heck lah...I just hate GP anyway...C6 is good enough for me... Sorry lah...today's journal seems a bit boring...very descriptive...cos I've to quickly study for Maths test tmr liao! |
| 1 May Saturday |
| VJC Funfair |
| Today is Labour
Day! Argh...what a waste for it to fall on a Saturday. Anyway my whole day
was being spent in the VJC funfair. (forgot how to spell the name liao) I
reached the school by car at abt 9.15am....(the school is really very close
to East Coast Park) then walked around a for a while before meeting up with
Yong Feng, Zhaoyang and Jin Hin. Yong Feng brought us to his class' game
stall, which was abt flinging rings into bottles. After much persuasion from
the stall-keepers I attempted one game for $2...but missed all my throws...haiz...very
hard to aim lah. One of the prizes was a deck of poker cards which has a
very nice pattern...how I wished I could get one too... Yong Feng brought the 3 of us around the school where I saw a "haunted house" with a very long queue outside, a dunking pool where 'victims' fall into, stalls in the canteen and the outdoor tent with all sorts of yummies, etc... There was even a lucky draw with a car as the first prize! We went for a drink then Zhaoyang's friend came along and persuade him to play the "Water Rationing" game where he was supposed to collect water but all the water got onto him instead. Haha... After looking around, we went back to Yong Feng's stall to rest and watch ppl play at the same time. I got a bit bored and suggested to play cards. Zhaoyang and Jin Hin agreed but Yong Feng refused because he dun want to break the school rules... :( In the end san1 que1 yi1 then I got even more bored. Ya, throughout the fair I met many ppl too, some PRCs from my class, those who were previously in HCJC for the first 3 months, some S33 ppl, band ppl, seniors, tchs 4C ppl, etc... Happy to see them...even though the place is too crowded for me to have to short chat with them. Then I became very tired...the music was so deafeningly loud, the singing was horrible, the place became more crowded and hot. Zhaoyang and Jin Hin decided to go Parkway while I continued to stay behind. Spent all my coupons except $1 (shld have spent it on some kuey) Finally my 'savior' Xiaoxuan arrived...with Candice along. They also went to walk around then felt a bit bored, so we went to play 3-player daidee behind the stage just in front of the squash court. Luckily nobody seem to care...I think since that was a public funfair so the school rules doesn't apply. Saw other groups of ppl playing cards too. The 3 of us played for many games until rest of the band ppl arrived, then we played Bridge. We played and played until some ppl suggested to go somewhere else. As Xiaoxuan, Candice and I were abt to leave, we saw Youcheng and invited him to play cards with us. But Candice already sian liao so we decided to go home instead. It was a long long journey home by bus and train...and I had a very nice chat with Youcheng...got to know him better, as well as his family background. Really tired after reaching home...but still have to go for a family dinner to celebrate Mothers' Day... almost slept during the dinner...haha. |
