| Homecoming Carnival |
|
What an eventful day...met a lot of my sec sch classmates...and so much
things happened that I think I won't be able to write all of them down...
Let's start off in the morning when I was setting up the stall. I was
collecting some disposables when I saw Yong Feng came. He said he had to go
for some CIP briefing thingy...(what a weird day for the briefing...) Some
came and brought along their cooking utensils. Then it started to rain...haiz...so
dampening. Becos of the rain, the launching ceremony wasn't held in the
central plaza (that means no release of balloons to the air/ playing of the
huge beach balls, etc...) but was held inside the audi instead where only
the J2s and outsiders were allowed to enter...so sad, the J1s won't be able
to witness anything. Soon Zhang Li and Zu Yuan came with the ingredients for
ba bao zhou (eight treasures porridge). There was eight different
ingredients (I think...judging from the name) and we have to mix them in the
correct proportions as well as a suitable amount of rice, sugar and water.
Unfortunately there was no electricity yet due to some faults, so the
porridge was left in the cooker uncooked. I went to walk around and tour the stalls before meeting up Yong Feng at s32 game stall outside audi. The game was abt controlling a toy car around a track. Looks very fun...(But then I realised I was wrong...) I went back to the canteen again and waited. It was still raining and the rain seemed to spoil everything...the outdoor game stalls were also unable to function and those stalls under a shelter set up in the field was inaccessible. (the location of the shelter was really very bad...so far away somemore) Finally it was 10 am, the electricity was back and sales began. However my stall had nothing to sell yet cos the porridge was still in process of cooking and the dumplings haven't arrived yet. So I went to buy my first food...the Macho Nachos!($3) Haha...quite delicious lah...esp with the cheese. I bought some jelly($2) from the s33 stall too...very nice also. It was getting crowded and our stall was still waiting, so I suggested to take a group photo at the stall. Unfortunately my camera ran out of battery and after I've changed them, everyone was already dispersed and it was far too crowded to take any pictures. (It was the best shot I could ever take lor..!@#$$%) I met up with Yong Feng and Terence again and we took some pictures...After that I also bought a bowl of ice kachang($2)...the ice was rather tasteless and the fillings could be a bit sweeter...hehe. Ya, I noticed that the band stall has already sold out...that's so fast...I was abt to buy some chicken sticks lor.... It was still raining I think...just a slight drizzle. As our stall was getting too cramped due to many ppl helping out, I decided to back out (though it was supposed to be my shift during that time) and visit the games stall area outside audi. Yong Feng was leaving and he gave me his remaining $3, which I spent in the 32's stall. I watched others play and there was a lot of technical problems! Tsk tsk...the game was so unsmooth... To avoid waiting for a long time, I was asked to come back again later. Then Youcheng came and we played at the choir's stall, where we were supposed to throw ping pong balls into the egg trays($4). I must be very lucky to get 2000 points! (I could have gotten 3000 points...breaking the record!! Heh..) Nevertheless I was satisfied with my wonderful score and won a MacDonald's Pooh Bear dressed in a pirate costume...actually I have it already...hoho. Then I went to play at the other stall where I was supposed to throw balls into holes($2). It depends more on skill than luck, so I only won a sweet and a small packet of biscuits. Felt very weird carrying a bear around... I went back to the canteen again and our stall was even crowded than before. Didn't know that dumplings and porridge were so popular... n_n. (popular among the PRCs maybe...haha) There was soooo many ppl queuing up for it lor...so scary. With the help of Yao Chun, I managed to get a bowl of dumplings($3) without having to wait. Very very tasty! Shortly after, all the dumplings were sold out, leaving the porridge only. Then I bought a cone of ice cream ($1) as well as 2 cheese puffs($4). Those puffs were really yummy!!! (Saw the band stall restocking their chicken sticks...)After that I saw a mass dance going on in the central plaza...took some pictures too! I started to notice a " 死 鬼の谷 ぬ " banner at the top of the building...Out of curiosity I went up to the 5th lvl Music Room and it was sooooo crowded! I wonder if the haunted house is scary or not... The band stall was sold out again!!! So I bought a cup of glass jelly($2) and a stick of candy floss($2) instead, proceeded to the field and saw Mrs Chin sitting above the dunking pool. A sum of money had to be collected before Mrs Chin was ready to be dunked. We were supposed to hit a target, causing the seat which she was sitting on, to give way. Many missed...and one stupid guy kept shooting the ball into the mud, causing it to splash onto the surrounding audience... -___- After several attempts to hit the target, someone managed to bring Mrs Chin down into the pool. Being thoroughly wet, she still had to get back onto the seat again cos that person had one more ball left. However, that ball missed...and the councillors took the opportunity to push the target, without warning, and bring Mrs Chin down into the pool again... Tsk tsk...so evil lah... After the 'show' was over, I returned to the canteen and bought a packet of garlic bread($2). I went to our stall and there wasn't many ppl there anymore, so I decided to try the porridge($1)...err...a bit too much water, rather tasteless, not sweet enough. I really pity those who bought the porridge lor...it's like drinking rice water... Then Jialing brought me to see her twin sister...wow...other than the hair, their faces look sooo alike, and the way they speak are so similar too! They went to make a song dedication...(I was planning to make one too...but dunno who to dedicate to...) Visited 32's stall again...but still too crowded... Saw a second round of mass dance going on in the central plaza... I was thinking if I could be more enthu and dance along too, but since I've no dance partner and I've already forgotten the steps, I just watched lor. In the canteen, the stall beside ours was desperately trying to sell off their remaining kachang puteh by screaming. I pitied them and bought a cone for $1...then they gave me all the peanuts... -___- It was almost 4pm and the carnival was abt to end. I quickly spent my remaining $2 at the "Treasure Chest" game...I was supposed to put one hand each into the 2 boxes and try to dig out flurry balls from a pool of styrofoam beads. It was sooo difficult (the balls were so small) and I only managed to dig one out...haiz. Soon it was announced that all sales had to stop. Went to 32's stall for a third and final time...but still didn't get to play at all....yOu ChEaTeRs!! Cheated my $3!!!...grrrrrr......I will never forget it............ Helped to clear up our stall...glad that everything was sold out. ^_^ It was a tiring but enjoyable day...and I managed to spend all my 3 coupons too... Question: How much did I spend altogether? (Hint: The costs are highlighted in black) (Another hint: There is no mistake in the costs) I think only 1 person knows why...hehe. |
| 30 July Friday |
| First chem O lesson |
| My eye is
feeling better...but a problem still persists...I think I better visit the
optician soon. There was no teacher for GP lesson cos Mrs Soo has already
given birth yesterday...(earlier than expected...this week is supposed to be
her last week in sch) Congrats for her new baby boy! The class was given a
compre to do but I think most didn't bother to do at all...even I had the
difficulty trying to digest the passage, becos of the distractions from Say
Kai and Shuk In...... Got back the PW files today...very badly rated...lots of documents are not present. My group really has to work harder...but I dunno how to.. :( The last period was phy tutorial...kept falling asleep...I wonder why phy teachers like to emit sleeping gas.... After dismissal I went to help set up the stall with Yao Chun, Say Kai and Mong Seng...I didn't help much lah...used my eye power instead...hehe. Well done to Yao Chun, for designing the wonderful banners of our stall! I think it looks nice! Of course there were other stalls which has more beautifully designed banners. Oh yar...before I forget to mention, my class stall is selling dumplings (jiao3 zi) and porridge (ba1 bao3 zhou1) in the canteen. Remember to patronise my stall! After decorating the stall, I went to the library to do some work before attending the first chem O session, lectured by Miss Wong HM. (dunno who's she...) She's so niao...she even told a trainee teacher not to talk... -__- The lecture is an extension of Electrochemistry...sth abt the the Nernst Equation, which shows how the actual cell potential deviates from the standard cell potential depending on concentration of ions. That is derived from the Gibbs energy equation which shows the energy dissipated when charges travel through a potential difference... Wah so chim...dun confuse you liao...hehe. Looking forward to meeting my friends tmr...I'm planning to bring a camera too! ^_^ |
| 29 July Thursday |
| Painful.... |
| Today's chem
lect was just as interesting. Miss Tan wanted to show the concept of
electric potential of the elements, so she called up a huge guy (from judo I
think) as well as another person, and both of them were supposed to play
"push-of-war". (opposite of tug-of-war) Then both of them began to put up an
act by pushing each other in a dramatic manner...haha. (I think they knew
each other) The was no winner nor loser in the end. Next was another guy
whom the huge guy didn't know. However he played along with the show too and
eventually acted like he has lost, by falling back dramatically. Last was a
girl who 'challenged' him, but due to the unison agreement by the audiences,
the girl was voted the winner without having to put up a fight. Haha... There was no PE cos the teacher was absent...-__-. (perhaps due to the rain yesterday) See? I'm sooo correct. We have already missed 1 week of PE liao. After the 3 period-long break, there was chem SPA. The experiment is abt burning alcohol through a wick. (called a 'spirit lamp') Good thing is that drawing of graphs were not needed, the calculation part was rather easy and the experiment can be conducted swiftly. I only wrote 4 errors (with much elaboration) while some wrote up to 7 or 8 errors! But...the smell of the alcohol and the spirit lamp STINKS! Even more pungent than ammonia! I had a hard time trying to wash the smell off after the exam. Now, that's when all the pain started...my contacts (for dunno what reason) was inflicting so much pain in my right eye, even though it seems to be placed at the right position. It hurts a lot whenever I blink. When I tried to adjust my contacts by rolling my eyes, lifting my eyelids, it got even painful. Worse thing is, I cannot go home right after dismissal cos there was the Australian Maths Competiton. I had to wait for 3 hours for the competition!! So I did the Integration tutorial...but couldn't concentrate cos of my eye. The was a point where I couldn't even open my eye cos it was too painful... >_< According to Kaizhi, the contacts had worn off after a month...(exactly one month cos I first time I wore it to sch was 29 June) Thanks to Say Kai for lending me his eye drops...but that didn't help at all. Finally after a long tormenting wait, the AMC started. The LT was terribly cold and got a running nose. Plus my eye still hurts. This might be the most torturing paper I've ever taken... The questions were rather easy and I managed to do 5 out of the last 10 questions. :) Rushed home quickly to remove the contacts...phew, the pain was finally gone but my right eye was swollen red. Then I realised something terrible abt that eye........... |

| Track and Field Meet |
| During PW, Mr
Koh commented on our GPFs, saying that they were badly done. There was a lot
of missing contents and, our evaluations and minutes were too superficial,
not up to the standard requirements. He pointed out a lot of mistakes which
we had to do a lot of work (and crapping) to correct them. I think the
examiners are really very fussy. (and busybody too) They expect us to pen
down each and every single idea (whether useful or useless, correct or
incorrect) that the group has raised or thought abt. It's not like the
examiners would really read them... Nvm...craping is the way to go. Phy lect today was fun. There was a demonstration on how the Van de Graff generator works, by that ang moh teacher. (refer to the Science Research and Innovation entry in May 2004) I think he's very funny... He asked a volunteer to touch the generator dome while it was collecting charge, and wanted to show that his hair would stand. However the volunteer's hair was too short to observe anything, so the teacher took a wig (with long hair somemore!) and put it over his head...haha. Then ppl started say that he's very chio and looked like a real woman...hahaha. In the end we didn't see his "hair" stand...maybe cos the hair was too long or there wasn't enough charge. CT session was held in the hall. We were briefed on what is going to happen on the carnival day and all those logistics stuff. Ya...there are more game stalls than food stalls...maybe I'll use my coupons to try for a prize or two...hehe. Hopefully the visitors won't starve also. Dunno if I'm helping out in my class stall or not...if not, I can walk around and enjoy the games myself. ^_^ As for the dunking thingy, I think Mr Ang would most likely be nominated for the victim...but hor I see him so old liao...scared later he drop in cannot come out...hehe... : P So sad...I had to absorb the cost of my 3 remaining coupons. But this also means I have more to spend on that day! After CT session the S7, S3, Arts fac gathered and set off to the national stadium to support our track and field team. There was rather few ppl cos most of them have excuses (I tot there was only 50 ppl officially excused?) or some simply pon. (here comes the CS!) Much thanks to Say Kai for accompanying me during this cheering session, if not I would be bored to hell. For the past 4 years I've been with chinese high cheering but today I was looking at them cheering instead...feels very weird... When the competition starts, everyone started to cheer cheer cheer...with the girls cheering louder than the boys without fail every year. (esp Cedar and NYGH) I was looking around the stadium...observing the props that have been set up for NDP...looking at where the schools were seated. Some ppl went to their previous sec sch to cheer for them too. Ya...I'm not very used to the small cheering crowd of hc as compared to tchs...haha. Then it started to drizzle and some ppl took out their umbrellas. Soon it was raining more heavily and there was no choice but to ask everyone to get into shelter outside the spectator stand. (we weren't under the shelter) Aiyoh...first time got such thing happened during the track and field meet. Few years ago it rained too but was not as heavy as today... Some waited for the rain to stop and the events to resume, while some others took the opportunity to escape...haiz. Shortly after the rain stopped and we were back at the spectator seats again, with fewer ppl this time. The councillors provided some fans for us to sit on. The events continued. But then it was still wu yun mi bu and it started to rain again!!! Slightly heavier than before. Everyone was quickly evacuated to the shelter the second time. People were frustrated and some started to leave, while others had the determination to wait for further instructions. (like me and Say Kai ^_^) Soon the rain subsided and we were back in watching the events again...with EVEN fewer ppl than before. That's so sad. I stood up watching for most of the time until my legs grew tired. When the last event ended, I saw the hc cheering crowd was really sooo pathetic. (esp when it was supposed to be 3 Faculties!) With that I really admire the Cedar girls...there was a load of them cheering initially (they weren't under the shelter too) and at the end, there was still a lot of them. I left just when the prize giving ceremony commenced, I wasn't very much interested in the results and there was also nothing to look forward to. Ya...I think NJC is really qiang... |
| 27 July Tuesday |
| Esther Tan |
| Oooh...I just
love her lecturers...so interesting, so lively, can never fall asleep
one...(unless you're a Snorelax) Today she started off with making those 'hissssss'
sound on the words ending with 's'...like "notesssszzzz", then everyone
started to imitate her...haha. (I realised that her tone in speaking is so
"imitate-able"...high pitched and very piercing...haha.) In the middle of
the lecture, she went off-track again by discussing the 'Slam Dunk'
characters and how shuai they were...-__- I learnt a new thing in
Electrochem today: the purpose of the salt bridge and how it works. In the
past I used to think that it is a bridge made of salt... After morning assembly today, (btw very very few ppl wore that orange shirt) there was a carnival briefing, where everyone was instructed to participate in the welcoming of the guest of honour. Some classes were involved in confetti-throwing. (hey I want to throw too!!) The "grand" music was played and soon after that, huge plastic balls were thrown down to the central plaza...then everyone began playing happily...beating those balls around...-__- (I got a chance to hit the ball once ^_^) For dunno what reason (maybe cos of staff meeting) the first period was cancelled. GP lesson was long and grueling as Mrs Soo presented a powerpoint abt Abortion which contains 94 slides, and took abt 1 and half hour. The powerpoint talks abt stages of a foetus in the womb, its development, abortion techniques and procedures, state laws on abortion, various arguments which justify and oppose abortion. Since Mrs Soo's child is going to be delivered soon, I dun think it's good for her to talk abt all these stuff. Some ppl wanted to watch the abortion video (those from chinese high shld have seen it before) but Mrs Soo refused...haha. Agaaaaaiiiin, there was no afternoon PE cos it was raining. On average I think for every 1 PE lesson we attend, we miss 2 PE lessons...hahahaha... Ya...Jeff's flying to London tmr...Bon Voyage! Enjoy your trip! Remember what I told u ah... I think I'm addicted to integration liao...was doing my tutorial for most of the periods today, even when I'm not supposed to. Integration is soooo fun! But hor sometimes things gets tooooo complicated and this is what you get: http://www.boomspeed.com/saikomelon/b1666.jpg Hey that's not done by me hor...me very guai one, won't do such things one...found this in the web...hehe. |
| 26 July Monday |
| Towards the Carnival... |
| July is coming
to an end, and it marks the arrival of the homecoming carnival! ^_^
Though I'm not really involved in the preparation of food for my class
stall, I still look forward to meeting my friends and having fun on that
day. We are supposed to wear the carnival T-shirt tmr for some trial, but
since I haven't gotten my shirt yet, I shall not follow instructions and get
myself embarrassed... Moreover the colour of the shirt doesn't fit my
liking...a little too striking for my eye. And the symbols/letters printed
on it seem like some kind of organic compound... Didn't learn anything constructive for the first few periods...Mdm Yeo was drowning the lecture theatre with her monotonous voice and Mr Lee was just going through the concept of resonance which I've already known since 2 weeks ago. Mr Tang had done the job of explaining it to us and we dun need Mr Lee to waste time applying sleeping powder to my dull morning. During phy lect, I finally understood the concept of Gravitational potential and Electric potential, and how it relates to the point in infinity where potential = 0. That 'ink' in my mind is finally cleared! Mr Lee took over the chem period for prac discussion. (Can't believe that he's actually urging us to find out the Chem SPA qns from other classes...) Last period was GP. It began by a short roleplay by some students abt the abortion issue, and we were to decide which argument is more convincing, followed by a questionnaire and discussion session. I'm quite neutral abt this issue...in some cases abortion is a wiser choice, whereas in some other cases...abortion is just a way to shirk responsibility and a result of selfishness. As to whether abortion is morally correct or wrong...I dun really care since it varies from case to case. |
| 23 July Friday |
| Spiderman |
| Both GP and PW
periods are spent in the computer labs. During PW, every group was busy
trying to do last-minute arrangement of the GPF. Our group was also trying
to compile as many things as possible in the file...but unfortunately I
still think my group's GPF is the thinnest among all the groups...sobz. Must
zai jie zai li! I made use of the break to finish up my last source
evaluation before it is "ready" for submission. Dunno why...I began to get a
headache all of sudden after that...must be too much PW liao. After the boring phy prac, Jieying, Bosen and I set off together to Cineleisure to catch 4.30 Spiderman 2. (Ya...finally got the chance to watch after almost a month since the movie was released) Actually I wanted to invite more ppl one but they were either busy or have already watched it. As we threesome took the bus to Orchard, I noticed something weird...didn't know they were "together"...or is it not? After getting off the bus I saw An Li and her friend also going to watch a movie, which was starting soon. The three of us went to buy some stuff in Burger King, then made it into the theatre just before the movie began. Wow...the movie is indeed very nice, just like what most ppl has described. The action scenes are great too! But I feel that some scenes are a bit overwhelming...and there seem to be a lot of screaming going on. I was frightened once during the part when my mind was caught unaware abt what's going to happen next. Poor Jieying was 'shocked' by certain scenes abt 3 times lor. For those parts where the audiences are supposed to laugh, Bosen did just as intended. Then me ah?...hehe...I was feeling so cold in the theatre and kept shivering. (never felt that cold in a theatre before...) It was not only me, Jieying and Bosen were also freezing too. Ya...I must admit that the sound effects in cineleisure theatres are pretty good...Imagine watching in CCK (Refer to June's Harry Potter entry)...there would be like no atmosphere of tension created at all... |
| 22 July Thursday |
| Shocking |
| Like yesterday,
there was no morning assembly and the band played two of the pieces
performed yesterday. First period was chem lect where Mr Pang finished the
last part of chem equilibrium... (phew...no more copying already...) Then it
was PE...this time it did not rain but Mr Tan was absent... Those who failed
to attain at least a silver in napfa were asked to train up for the 5-items.
After doing some pull-ups, we became tired and went to the netball court
where the rest of the class were playing. I joined in the game too. Then I learnt abt the roles of each netball player in a team. There is a Goal Keeper, Goal Defender, Wing Defender, Centre, Wing Attack, Goal Attack and Goal Shooter. Each of these players is restricted to their own court space. Initially I was the WA and I admit I was really playing badly...hehe...I miss quite a lot of passes, allowing the opponents to seize the opportunity to capture the ball. I did not jump to catch the ball when I'm supposed to, and the ball often slipped off my hand...haiz. Then I became the GK...didn't defend well too...(or is it the opponent's GS and GA were too strong?) I still think that netball is very fun...esp after watching the competition in Toa Payoh last time! Then it was chem prac, but there was no prac today so it was supposed to be 3 periods tutorial. However Mrs Ho couldn't take it so she only taught for 1 1/2 periods, before Mr Lee took over. We were given an assignment to do but the class pleaded for an early break. Therefore Mr Lee decided to let us complete the assignment at home and dismiss us instead... (haha...so nice...but this also shows that he's so slack...hehe) Some went to discuss PW while I spent the time in the canteen...drinking coke, chit chatting, etc... Mr Lee's slackiness is further confirmed when he attended our maths lecture...-__- Didn't know that he's really so bo liao lor... However he left a while later...I think partly becos the topic was a bit boring...hehe. During the lecture S33 was very noisy and suddenly Mr Koh shouted at them and stared at them angrily... (first time seeing Mr Koh flare up like that...) Immediately the whole LT became very very silent...I think everyone was shocked by his fierce-ness...haha. After that he returned to his 'friendly-state' again... After the lecture Mong Seng, Jingzhan and I chatted with Mr Koh...then I realised that he's previously also in the chem and phy olympiad (wowww...) He shared his experiences where he screwed up the practical part of the competition...haha. But he still got a silver for chem and HM (honorable mention) for phy...wow...so qiang. Haiz...tmr need to hand in GPF liao...I see other groups so many resources...file so thick...so I think I better pia PW tonight! |
| 21 July Wednesday |
| Racial Harmony Day |
|
Didn't update yesterday cos there was nothing of interest...except that Mrs
Ho was in a good mood. Today, quite a few ppl wore ethnic costumes to sch...more
than I thought...it was mostly the girls. I observed that the Indian sari
seem to be the most popular costume. As it was raining in the morning, I
didn't get the chance to see who wore what costumes during the morning
assembly. Jieying and Shuk In wore the sari, Rosemary wore a Peranakan (sp?)
dress, Kaizhi wore a sarong (oh...he's such a disgrace to the Malay
community....) and Yingying wore a cheongsam. Wow...what a 'multi-racial'
class...haha.
Phy lect was Electrostatics, lectured by Ms Quek (the first female phy lecturer)...I think she's one of the best phy lecturer compared to the rest of the male teachers. Her explanations were clear and I dun feel sleepy at all. I also realised that electrostatics is so similar to gravitation. For math lect I was reading the printed examples rather than listen to Mdm Yeo's lullaby. CT session was abt a talk on PW (boring...) as well as the racial harmony day concert. (lion dance, introduction to Indian myths, Malay songs...also quite boring...) We also recited the "racial harmony pledge"...so long winded. After dismissal I visited the food fest, where they were selling ethnic food. (such as kueh, puffs, rolls, etc...) I bought an Indian spring roll, 2 curry puffs and a fried banana. Quite delicious lah...I was hungry at that time anyway. The band rehearsed for a while before setting off for Bugis Junction. When we reached there, I saw TJC harmonica and guitar members performing before us. Soon after it was our band's turn to play...there was only a small audience at the fountain area. I dun think the band played really well...and I think the clarinets were too soft to be heard. Hopefully the audience still enjoyed it... Oh ya...that place is soooo enclosed and squeezy...and the carpark entrance is located there somemore...make life so difficult for us! After seeing so many ppl wear those ethnic costumes...I also want to wear them too. But hor...guy's costumes not challenging to wear one...it's like wearing the same old thing lor... (shirt and pants...) |
| 19 July Monday |
| Holy power! |
| Maths lect is
sooo boring today...I want Ms Kwee to teach!!! Phy lect was abt going thru
the bt paper...I realised that the questions are not as difficult after
all...hehe. There sth wrong with Holy today...just as she stepped into the
class she began to scream away liao...shouted at those latecomers, demanding
apology, ordered us to occupy the front seats, spot-checking our tutorials,
etc. That's so "unlike" her (or shld I say she has shown her true colours?...).
Maybe other classes angered her or sth...dunno...
Just found out today that the band is going to perform at Bugis Junction this Wednesday (I always tot it was in sch...) at around 6 pm. So ma fan lor...play for a while only...I doubt anyone would really stand in front of the band to watch us play or sth. I still remember the last time I played outside a shopping centre (somewhere in Orchard...forgot which one...) was during a Japanese festival thingy 2 years ago where the band played Sukura and some fanfares. Ya...and I appeared in the TV too! ^_^ I still remember another time abt 3 years ago, where the band marched around Marina Square playing Christmas music...haha. We're supposed to hand up our PW files this week and I haven't arranged a thing at all! Oh no...and my evaluation of sources is far from completion...our survey is still not done lor...sobz... |
| 18 July Sunday |
| College Day |
| The band played
in the College day yesterday afternoon. Ya...the teachers were just sitting
right in front of us...hope they enjoyed our blasting (esp for the
fanfare)...hehe. Most of the teachers were 'clever' enough to avoid sitting
directly in front of the band, they sat at the side instead...haha. I
noticed that whenever a teacher arrives, his/her friend will 'warn' them abt
the band behind, before that teacher settled down at a safe distance of the
band. Also noticed that some of the teachers were marking their student's
assignment while the principal was talking...tsk tsk. The GOH's name is Ng
Soy Ng...one of the weirdest names I've ever heard...cos it's very rare to
find 'palindrome' names. Luckily the band was allowed to leave after the
GOH's speech...the programme was so boring lor.
Also, I've finally learned how to tie a tie yesterday, ever since I first wore it in Sec 1. I did it by trial and error...so the next time I must figure the steps again...haha. Ya...the band is going to play during Racial Harmony Day this coming Wednesday... |
| 16 July Friday |
| Returned |
| Yup...Wenjia is
finally back...with 2 olympic gold...and a piece of medal (me never never
had any medals nor trophy at all)...and he bought chocolates for the class
too ^_^. He told us abt his trip to Germany as well as the food, climate,
etc over there. I have never been to western countries before...hope I would
get a chance to go in the future...though it's not very likely...hehe.
Unfortunately...he has so many things to catch up...must kuai ma jia bian
liao. Got back my GP compre...18/50...one of the worst results I've ever gotten. Adding the compo marks...I've got 45/100 (!!!) Oh no...I failed...haiz... First block test already fail GP liao...i think the subsequent ones will be very bu kan she xiang... I lost my confidence on GP liao...I'm not going to put in any effort to improve...hmph... Physics prac was abt thermodynamics, where we had to boil water, heat objects, freeze liquid, etc... Now I know boiling water is sooo time consuming...luckily throughout the experiment no one scalded themselves. Then there was another College Day rehearsal...fortunately it was not as long as I expected. The choir joined in the singing too...but it seems that it is being overpowered by the band.... Initially very few ppl came for the rehearsal cos their lessons had not ended yet, however the rehearsal was soon over shortly after they arrived...haha. Tmr afternoon is college day...go there just to play for few minutes...sian diao. |
| 15 July Thursday |
| Untitled |
| Haha...nothing really significant happened today so I don't know what title shld I put... Chem lect was chem equilibrium...Mr Pang so slack lor...only prepared a 2-page notes for the topic! Then he told us to self study and read up reference books.. -__- He explained most of the concepts through talking and writing on plain paper...aiyoh...make us do all those unnecessary copying. After that was PE...cos it was raining, we didn't play netball...and no napfa training also...phew. Instead, we played a Olympic quiz whereby each group have to come up with some questions abt the Olympic games and test the other groups. 3 groups got 5 pts while the last grp got 3 pts only...haha. After break was chem prac which took 3 periods...what an exhausting experiment! |
| 14 July Wednesday |
| Waste time... |
| Physics lecture
was taken Mr Tang as Mr Lee had to go for reservist. He's a much better
lecturer than Mr Lee lor...at least I won't feel bored and will pay
attention to him. The most interesting part of the lecture is when Mr Tang
was explaining the concept of resonance...he showed us a 'toy' with 3
flexible sticks attached and made only one of them sway by vibrating the
base. Then he screened a video showing a hanging bridge which swayed so much
(due to the wind frequency) until it collapsed. Haha...so ke lian. And I
didn't know that the concrete bridge was soooo flexible until it could shake
like jelly... Those who studied resonance will know what I'm talking abt... CT session was held in classroom. I took out my tutorial and do while Mdm Yeo was collecting money. Then she started to talk abt time management blah blah...what crap... This afternoon was a waste of time. (I would rather go for Bridge session with the club members instead) There was a College Day rehearsal in the audi and the band had to sit at the back of the audi do nothing but waiting...until it's our turn to play. And the band is only playing a less-than-20 sec fanfare and the college song lor. So sian... But fortunately we get to sit down and play... |
| 13 July Tuesday |
| Animal Rights |
| Today, Mr Soo
let us watch 3 different videos on animal rights and cruelty. The first
video is the most gruesome one. There isn't any commentary and it is just
pure scenes, showing how farm animals like chickens, cows, pigs, etc were
being brutally treated by the farmers. There are scenes of animals being
beaten, having ears cut off, slaughtered, etc. One of the most gruesome
scene is the pigs being cut at their throat...blood was pouring out
profusely and they were struggling away. Another scene is a pig being cut
off its tail and ears alive and the pig was squealing away. Actually this
video is encouraging ppl not to eat meat. Luckily I didn't puke after
looking at those scenes. (cos I just had lunch before that) Another video (not gruesome anymore) is a show called "A Practice" and it's abt a successful attempt of saving a monkey from experimentation. The last video was a cartoon...Simpsons...(which I think most ppl know) It talks abt how Simpson's sister (dunno her name) refused to eat meat after a visit to the zoo. (not really a zoo...it's some kind of attraction place) She faced with many difficulties trying to avoid meat but it was all in vain, as the society promotes meat-eating. But the cartoon is really very funny lah...hahahaha. Even after all these videos, I will still continue to eat meat lah...haha...as if I can survive with only vegetables liddat.... Maths lecture started on a new topic...Complex numbers. Hope it is not as boring as vectors... Chem lecture was on SPA Skill D...analysing errors in experiment...didn't know there were so many experimental techniques...like collecting gases with a burette, etc. After a few tutorials with Holy, I dun think she's that fierce after all. She appears to be very mild during tutorials and sometimes even smile, joke with us. Not very strict leh...but at least her impression she gave during lectures made the whole class behave themselves and thus she's able to teach with ease. (unlike maths and physics tutorials...where most of us are doing our own stuff..) No PE today cos raining...so early dismissal lor...hehe. |
| 12 July Monday |
| Yawn... |
| Mr Lee returned
us the physics paper today...got 60%....D...haiz...My MCQ was worse than
expected. And structured qns was terrible. *cries*... Sec sch got Mrs Ke...jc
got Mr Lee...when can I ever have a good physics teacher??? But I'm
considered lucky to get good chem teachers (except Miss Wee) ever since I
studied chem... Teachers really play a very important part in the
student's results for the subject lor.
Physics lecture is really getting more and more unbearable lor...it is such lectures that make me lose interest in physics. So I decided not to listen to Mr Lee and his boring, repetitive lecture and do maths instead. And ya...integration is so fun...esp the manipulation part which requires lots of thinking....unlike differentiation where everything is so straight forward. Mrs Soo returned us our GP BT essay, which I got 27/50...yay! (didn't fail lor) Then she plunged into a series of explanations for how to write argumentative/expository essay...I was either staring into space or drawing random pictures on my test paper...sian. After collecting my O lvl cert, I went to 32 class bench to meet up with Yong Feng. He's selling post-it-pads as well as distributing PW surveys. (I think my group is prepared to fake survey results liao) Then I saw the VJC BT papers and I think it's much harder than hc one lor. Even for maths I see until blur liao. Oh yar...Mr Lee put my name down for chem olympiad...cos shortage of ppl. Heard that chem o ppl are going to learn finish ALL the J2 stuff after promos...scary leh! |
| 10 & 11 July Saturday & Sunday |
| Lalala... |
| What a terrible
experience on Saturday. I was the only clarinetist in the band after Mallery
left at noon. Our dear SLs were so busy with their own stuff...seems like
I'm the one with the most free time in the section. Clarinets is supposed to
be one of the largest section but ever since the J2 left, it has been
reduced to so few ppl. And if each of them were to have sth on again, I
won't be surprised when I'm the only solo clarinetist in the band like
yesterday. The first row is reserved for clarinets and I was almost honoured
to occupy the front row all by myself. Fortunately the flutes moved to the
first row too if not I'll be mistaken for some kind of VIP. When Mr Leng
came he arranged the saxophones to sit at the front row too. After which I
was completely 'surrounded' by saxs and flutes. I was squeezed between our 2
dear QMs and you know...the lower clarinet sounds was covered by the saxs
while the higher sounds was covered by the flutes. So either way I stand no
chance. When it comes to parts where only clarinets are playing, it's either
long holding notes or running notes that take quite some skill to sight-read
it. (obviously I dun have the skill) Furthermore Mr Leng gave us new pieces
to sight-read...the skill that I'm worst at. So I'm feeling quite stressed
too...trying hard not to play wrong notes or count wrongly (yeah I've to
count everything myself, cannot afford to be lost in the piece), etc... One
person representing one of the biggest section in the band...indeed
stressful. Luckily Mr Leng didn't niao me in any way during the band prac...maybe
cos he doesn't know me well. I've to thank Stacy and Sheryl for keeping me
company during lunch break while the rest of the veterans in the section
were gone. Found out that Stacy is similar to me...she also dun like to get
involved in things...unlike the rest of my section.............. Recently I just joined a private bridge club in BBO...finally can play with ppl with similar standards liao. However I'm currently to embarking on sth that might greatly aid in my bridge play.... Just watched the NKF charity show...(I tot there was already one not long ago?! Why they so like that?) So many fire stunts... Quite amazing that they managed to raise so much money... And yes...I was seriously irritated by the 5566 fans...they have forgotten that it was charity show, not a 5566 concert. |
| 9 July Friday |
| Shuk In's house |
| Mr Koh returned
the F Maths Section B today...got 34/40. Quite good compared to others cos
Mr Koh said that we did better in Section A than Section B. But I screwed up
my Section A...haha...so my overall score is 64/90...71.1%. Argh...missed
the A grade again...!!! Haiz...I think that's all already lah...physics and
GP got no face to mention marks liao. Last 2 periods were physics
tutorial...siannnzzz...esp with Mr Lee. After sch Jieying, Youcheng, Xiaoxuan, An Li, Xuanyou, Yiuyan and me went to Shuk In's house at Bukit Batok. I went to watch Jieying, Shuk In, Xiaoxuan and Youcheng play Mahjong...haha...fortunately I knew what's happening liao unlike last time. Actually I also feel like playing but I'm attracted more to cards...so after a while I played cards with An Li, Xuanyou, Yiuyan. Played Bridge, Daidee, Hearts...until finally switch ppl. Jieying and Xiaoxuan came along, joining me and Xuanyou to play contract bridge. Then Xuanyou and Xiaoxuan kept discussing and discussing lor...where got like that one? While Jieying got very confused by the rules... Against the pro-est Xiaoxuan and Xuanyou among the 4, me and Jieying stand no chance at all. Luckily we managed to win one round hehe...our cards are rather good lah. For the consideration of Jieying, we decided to play floating bridge instead...then 1st round me and Xiaoxuan made a 2NT bid by winning all 13 tricks...haha. After that we played blackjack (the english style) and gambled using mahjong chips and chess pieces. Xiaoxuan was the "zhuang". After several rounds, we decided to play show hand since it would take forever to lose all our chips, also in attempt to make Xiaoxuan bankrupt...haha. Xuanyou won everything at first then Xiaoxuan took them back again....-___- Xiaoxuan, Xuanyou and Yiuyan continued to stay on to play mahjong (how come seniors more enthu than juniors...) while Youcheng, Jieying and me left together. The 3 of us went up the the 30th floor (sooo high lehhh!) of the flat to observe the scenery up there....it can really see very far lor. Somemore when I look down, everything really looks soooo small...so scary. It was soo high that we could feel our ears blocked while travelling down the lift. After that we went to West Mall Food Court to eat dinner before going home. Then Youcheng was saying that I topped the class in block test cos I won most PRCs even though I got ABB currently. Sounds unreliable to me. Maybe after physics and gp are returned, I'm not the "top" anymore...haha. Having sore eyes now...must be wearing contacts too long or sth. |
| 8 July Thursday |
| Exhausted |
| My ankle hurts
right now...must be becos of today's PE lesson. Mr Tan made those who are
unable to obtain silver and above go thru one round of the 5 stations to
check our standards. I did 4 pull-ups with much difficulty...in fact I only
did abt 3.8 times...luckily Mr Tan was kind and he recorded as '4 times'.
Next was shutter run. I didn't run as fast as I used to be...I think my
'turning' part is too slow liao. Mr Tan told me to practise more on shutter
run while others went to do sit-ups. All the sprinting and turning got me
very exhausted.... Then it was standing broad jump where I managed to jump
217cm. Haiz...still not able to pass the triple-2 mark...but good enough for
my age...hehe. Finally it was sit and reach...results so-so.
Chem lecture was going very very fast today. Miss Tan was trying to finish the whole stack of notes by 2 lectures lor. I was terribly confused by the isomers part...didn't know there were soooo many types of isomers! All those chim chim terms started to appear liao.....was really lost. There was no chem prac today so Mr Lee took half the 3 periods going thru skill D....he also asked me why I wear contacts, how did I do for block test, blah blah...then Kaizhi joked that Mr Lee loves me...-_______- Holy came and returned us the chem block test papers. Got 55/75...not up to Mr Lee's "standard"...I tot 50-sth was already quite bad liao but it seemed that all the ppl I asked, most got 40-sth only and none of them got higher than me..........eh? eh? eh?? Aiyoh cannot be lah...the class' chem cannot be so lan one. Didn't ask Zu Yuan...she's very qiang one...must have gotten 60-sth. Hmm...I also haven't asked the PRC girls yet...sure there must be someone in the class who got at least an A.... Maths lecture was boring...all abt copying examples only. Shuk In was trying hard to invite everyone in the class to go her house tmr but apparently most of them are going for the physics olympiad selection test and others had sth on...haiz. Really admire Shuk In's effort to bond the class together... |
| 7 July Wednesday |
| "Wooden Boat" |
| Today's national
anthem was rather steady and smooth...much much unlike yesterday's...
Apparently not many ppl did PW during the holidays. I dun think it's too
late to start now, but must work harder and get into serious discussion liao.
Physics lecture was Oscillations (Simple Harmonic Motion and waves) by Mr
Lee. When he started to intro himself, the end of his every sentence was
interrupted by applause (must be from his form class S31). Haha...then he
said sth like this, "I see that you have high expectations of me...I will
try my best." Aiyoh...where got lecturer say things liddat one, esp the "try
my best" part. He's a teacher leh...not the other way round. He said as if
the students are inspectors from MOE or sth... haha. What a shy teacher!
Then the rest of the lecture was quite boring...the way he explain things
ah...like teaching us how to sleep during lectures liddat. Sort of expected
that lah...since I experienced "it" a lot during his prac lesson. The way he
tried to bring us thru the lecture notes wasn't effective at all...I was
reading most of the stuff myself instead of listening to him. Tsk tsk.... The event of today happened during the CT session. A group of 6 singers were invited to perform and introduce Xin Yao to us. They can sing Chinese songs...ranging from the oldies to current pop songs. They sang very well IMO and I think they have the caliber to become Chinese pop singers in SG...haha. Btw some of them were from hc too. (one girl from S34...hehe) There was also the song dedication segment where many students participated actively...some took the chance to express their love for somebody else, wish their friends happy birthday, saboh ppl who dunno chinese...haha, and etc. Surprisingly they were able to sing most of the songs dedicated, showing that they have really practised on many songs. Pop songs they sang include Stefanie Sun's "Yu Jian", "Tian Hei Hei", Jay Chou's "An Jing", Wang Lee Hom's "Ni Bu Zai", Fish Leong's "Ting Bu Dao", Lin Jun Jie's "Jiang Nan", Ou De Yang's "Gu Dan Bei Ban Qiu", Harlem Yu's "Qing Fei De Yi", Shun Zi's "Xie Yi Shou Ge", Emil Chau's "Peng You", etc...as well as older songs like Teresa Teng's "Zai Shui Yi Fang", "Yue Liang Dai Biao Wo De Xin", Xin Yao's like "Qing Chun 1 2 3", "Shui De Hua", etc...a lot a lot. It lasted for very long lor...from 1.40 to 3pm. (we were supposed to be released by 2pm...) However most ppl stayed back to listen. And some interested J2s even went into the audi to watch too. From 2 to 3, many ppl started to leave one by one...but I continued to stay till the end, after the finale song "Dang Ni Gu Dan Ni Hui Xiang Qi Shui". This is one of the best CT session programme I ever enjoyed this year...thanks to the Chinese Society. Fortunately band started at 4 so no prob. |
| 6 July Tuesday |
| '1st' Day of Term 3 |
| Wow...what an
eventful day. A lot of things and changes happened today...so this entry
would be rather long...haha. Ok lets start from the morning: a lot of band
ppl came late (including me) so the warm-up was rather incomplete.
Furthermore the J2s need not come anymore and there were soooo little J1s
lor. As a result, the band sounded very hollow during the warm up...just
like a few soloists playing together. Soon the assembly began and all the
crap started to emerge from the band.... Firstly the sound we produce...too
messy liao...cannot make it lor. Secondly we played toooo slow and draggy...like
old woman crossing the road. (I wonder if Corwin really noticed that or
not...) When the anthem ended, Corwin did not know whether to stay in his
own position to recite the pledge or return to where the band was standing.
Aiyoh...he very the ai4 mian4 zi3 lor...the pledge was abt to end when he
finally decided to return to the band....then when other band members
reminded him frantically that we still have to play college song after that,
he just snapped them off angrily. Pfffft.... The college song was slightly better cos it was supposed to be at slower tempo. (but still sounded draggy and messy) After everything ended, the rest of the sch finally ren bu zhu broke out in laughter... (Guess the band really made a fool of itself). According to Jieying, during the singing, some ppl were already giggling liao, while some others tried very hard to control their laughter.... -__- A lot of ppl complained that the National Anthem was going far too slowly liao... Haiz...hopefully tmr will be better lor... (wonder how the J2s would think abt us...) I told some ppl that Holy is going to be our new chem tutor, then everyone was so shocked lor...esp Jieying who has heard many stories from her students saying that Holy favours boys, etc... First period was Maths lecture, where Mr Koh started on the final topic on Vectors...(finally!) After that was Mdm Yeo's tutorial, where we she returned us our block test papers. F Maths Section A: 30/50 (kinda expected lah, since I missed out a curve sketching question which costs me a lot of marks) Maths C: 68/70 Very Good! <---That's what it is said on the paper... (Yay...haha...this is my only achievement in the block test that I'm proud of! My other papers ah...hopeless liao.) Next was Physics tutorial...taken by....Mr Lee LJ......siannnnn diao! Then he chit-chatted with the class for a while before going thru thermo tutorial. After that was Mr Koh's tutorial, where he continued going thru the test qns. During break I decided to starve myself...haha...by stoning at the class bench. Then I saw Kenny and Yiuyan come along...apparently they had just finished the F Maths test. Soon after Xiaoxuan came along and suggested to play cards. As there was little time left we decided to play blackjack instead...short and simple. (Arghh...all of us cannot seem to win Xiaoxuan...can't believe she got such good cards!) Then it was the boringgg GP lesson where Mrs Soo went thru the Issue and Ideas thingy. Jingzhan asked me why I didn't play Bridge when I was online at BBO. Then I replied that I wasn't as brave to play with the experts by myself. (Unlike Youcheng...who got the nerve to play there all by his own even though when he's even worse than a beginner...no offense lah...haha) Jingzhan also asked me if I consider joining the bridge club.... Hmm...I play bridge becos of the fun of it, I dun want to treat it as a form of a job that I've to commit to on a regular basis. I just need to learn the relevant skills that is enough to bring me through a proper gameplay. Next came chem lecture, where Miss Esther Tan took us for 'Intro to Organic Chemistry'. It's just basic stuff, mostly taught in Sec 4, except that we have to learn even more functional groups besides alkane, alkene, alcohol and acid. I think the naming part is quite fun...hee. Finally it was the time where most had been waiting for...chem tutorial! While everyone was eagerly waiting, Holy suddenly walked past our classroom. We thought she wasn't our tutor after all. Haha...but it happened that she went to the wrong classroom...haha...so she's still our tutor after all. Then everyone was shocked (actually not really lah since I told most of them abt it liao) and became silent just as she stepped into the room. She looked nice (first lesson mah) and began to advise us on how to learn...-_- (kinda expected it from her...) The funny part was when she tried to pronounce our names. She couldn't read hanyu pinyin properly and so often she made everyone burst into laughter with her funny and weird pronunciation. She read "Chen" as "Ching", "Yu" as "You", "Xi" as "Si", "Ye" as "Yi" mixed up "Jie" with "Jia". The majority of PRCs in our class made her job tougher...haha. She pronounced some names correctly at the first time, but wrongly when she addressed that person again...haha. She used Chen Xi and Chen Yu as examples to show the class the correct way of learning...then she was going "Ching You" and "Ching Si" all the way...hahaaha. She interpreted "Bo Sen" as Doctor of the Forest and saw "Rosemary" as "Runaway"...haahhaa....greatest joke everrrr!! The last period was PE where we were allowed to enter the gym to use its facilities. Then some girls tried doing pull-up with the pull-up machine...haha. Haiz...still have to go napfa training every Tuesday afternoon.... Wenjia is leaving for Germany tonight for some choir competition or performance or sth. Hope he enjoys his trip there! He'll be back a week later...I shall miss him until then...hehe. Even though I've been in the band for so many years, I've never got a chance to go overseas. Once in tchs, the band was offered the opportunity to go Sydney for performance but unfortunately there wasn't enough budget and the sch cannot afford to subsidise most of the trip cost. Oh yar...becos this coming Friday we were released one period earlier, Shuk In has invited some ppl to go her house play mahjong... So I'm thinking if those ppl who are interested to play Bridge can go also...haha. Then her house would become a gambling den liao...hahahaha. |
| 5 July Monday |
| Youth Day |
| Haiz...wasted
such a long weekend doing nothing constructive. Thought of going to watch
Spiderman 2 (heard many ppl who watched it say it's nice....except one) but
I think a lot of ppl already watched it just after their block test ended. I
also dun feel like watching myself anymore...not fun one. Yesterday night I
had a bad dream abt Mrs Ho...aiyoh she haven't taught us yet then I'm
already starting to have nightmares abt her liao. I dreamt that she kept
scolding and scolding the class on the first lesson with us...until we were
so terrified that we dun dare to speak at all. When she asked a question,
nobody wants to answer then we got scolded more instead. Anyway I dun think
she'll be that bad in real person lah...the worst I can expect is the Miss
Mok-type lor...hehe... My Bridge addiction is coming back again...now I really can't afford the time... Unfortunately Xiaoxuan is not coming for band prac liao so cannot play with her during that time. I think I better go and do my unfinished tutorials and start a bit on my PW. (PW suckckckckcckkks!!!) |
| 2 July Friday |
| Block Test Last Day |
|
The F Maths paper is harder than I thought. I do until vomit blood... Maybe if the duration is 3 hours instead I could have attempted the qn that I figured out at the last minute. (anyway how come the duration for fm paper is shorter than cm paper huh?) I think I'm going to lose 20 over marks liao...upon 90 marks total. I was confused by the Induction question...stunned by the curving sketching question...stuck at the "hence or otherwise" type question. Is the paper really hard or I haven't studied and practised enough? Before the test I heard many said that they are going to fail...going to sleep during the test, blah blah...haiz. I dun think I will fail, but I also dun think I'll score well. Oh...I wonder how Jialing managed to attempt so many questions...she so pro lor. Finally block test is over, after just a short 4 days. Btw our new chem tutor would be Mrs Ho...that fierce loud voice one. Hope she'll teach better than Miss Wee, provided she dun scream at us so much. As for physics I still prefer Miss Chong lor...dun want Mr Lee...he always act funny buay funny one...made the whole class sleepy instead. (esp during prac) For those who are still very upset with their F Maths...dun worry lah...an average person would tend to fail F maths one. |
| 1 July Thursday |
| Block Test Day 3 |
| Chemistry is an
afternoon paper. I studied till quite late last night, but unfortunately
what I studied did not appear in most of the questions. MCQ was ok...at
least some questions from the tys came out. Then paper 2 was a
disappointment...which I think I could do better if I would to think harder.
I was confused by the mole concept questions, which I figured out after the
test, it was quite easy after all. Then the partial pressure stuff...haiz...didn't
even study that one. As usual, I didn't manage to complete the paper...if
only there's more time...haizz.... Hope Mr Lee dun kill me...>_<
Maths...I'm counting on you! Ya hor...for those who dunno, next Monday is youth day. Time to relax a bit after block test! |
