On October 27 our guest speaker was Susan Harper who is the Special Projects Officer at Garvan Woodland Gardens near Hot Springs, AR. During our club President Ed Staley's introduction of Ms. Harper a very curious thing happened. Ms. Harper donned a black feathery pillbox hat. Then she slipped on a pair of pristine white gloves. As Ed completed his introduction, Ms. Harper put her arm through the string handle of her black leather purse and stood up to begin her remarks. The person sitting as Susan Harper was now standing in the personage, manner, and speech of Verna C. Garvan. In this way we were told Verna's story and of how the Garvan Woodland Gardens came into being.
