Noggerup Campsite

March, 2000

The road that I took to Noggerup Campsite as part of the Bibbulmun Track started just across the road from Mumballup Tavern. Mumballup Tavern is near where the Collie-Preston Road T intersects with Donnybrook-Boyup Brook Road. I first went to Collie then took the Collie Preston Road to Mumballup. This Collie Preston Road also T intersects with the main road running through Collie.

The start of this trip lay just across the road from Mumballup Tavern. It is a strange spot for it is amongst grass. Walking down the track I soon discovered that I was following an old railway line.

The the track turned south onto a farm and up an enormous hill. There are fences to negotiate on this farmland as I made my way up-hill.

That was a fairly steep climb, past sheep and pigs.

Into bushland then and onto the campsite.

The logbook at the campsite told of a drama earlier in the week. Ed was travelling the Bibbulmun track with his dog Sparky and on his bike. Travelling down that big hill on the farm he buckled  his wheel so severely that he could no longer travel. An SOS to the locals did not raise sympathy.

It is unusual for the Bibbulmun Track to travel through farmlands but here you are. Boy this was a steep hill. It was slippery coming down it too.

Ah doesn't look steep at all, from the photo.

The Campsite is deserted, the log book tells of the drama of Ed and Sparky.

Rounding the corner and the campsite comes into view at last. Its across a gully and quite picturesque.

The starting pint for this day trip was across the road from the Mumballup Tavern where a big sign says 'Bibbulmun Track'.

Then its off across grasslands then into farmlands, where incidently a farmer was mining some bauxite at the tiime.

The track goes through some relatively thick bushland once on top of the hill.

There are some farm roads about at the start. There are a lot of kangaroos in the bush and on the farmlands.

This sign means 'Go straight ahead'.
