Hewett's Hill

April, 2000

The Hewett's Hill campsite is the first campsite from the northern terminus on the Bibbulmun Track. It is set up on the side of a hill and named after one of the champions of getting the Bibbulmun Track going. I accessed the Hewett's Hill campsite on the Bibbulmun Track from Asher Road. Asher Road comes off Mundaring Weir Raod and is the next bitumen road that comes off Mundaring Weir Road after Paull's Valley Road. I originally missed the Bibbulmun Track car park turnoff road as the CALM map of the area described the road as Brigeta Road. Thus I went down to Gingun Valley, that was too far.  The walk was pleasant, a little steep in places but not too bad.

Well who should I run into along this trail but Michael, formerly of Lesmurdie and now living in Jolimont.

Michael, all decked out in the right walking gear planned to spend the night at Hewett's Hill campsite.

Michael walked in from Fern Road, a little further than myself. This part of the track is well-worn but the scenery is ruggedly beautiful.

The huge granite boulders are a feature. There are a lot of kangaroos about despite the proximity of population.

This is a big Jarrah tree that failed to get a proper rooting. Its just fallen over.

The road sign from Asher Road, marking the entry to the Bibbulmun Track.

Left. I got this photo of Michael. Right. So Michael got one of me. Top. Hewett's Hill campsite.

Hewett's Hill campsite comes into view through the jarrah trees and amongst the granite boulders.
