About King Charles Spaniels
Home
In the nineteenth century, King Charles Spaniels were used as woodcock dogs in England. They are amongst the favourite pets of England,with their long,silky fur coat.

There are four types of Charles Spaniels:
The King Charles;
The Prince Charles;
The Blenheim King Charles;
and The Cavalier King Charles.

Here's how to recognise each Charles Spaniel from the other:

Blenheim King Charles Spaniel
THE KING CHARLES SPANIEL: White with black and tan markings.

THE PRINCE CHARLES SPANIEL:
White with black and tan markings.

THE BLENHEIM KING CHARLES SPANIEL: White with chestnut-red patches.

THE CAVALIER KING CHARLES: These are larger than the English toy and are divided up into two varieites; THE RUBY: Solid red-coloured, and the BLACK AND TAN.
King Charles Spaniels need very little exercise,and are normally quite inactive indoors. You should prevent them from being in contact with extreme temperatures-either really hot or really cold-and no trimming of their fur is needed.

Their life expectancy is around 10-12 years,so they make the perfect companion for any animal loving child. As with all dogs,it is best to wait until your child is old enough to understand the correct way of treating dogs before taking on the responsibility of a dog as a pet.

Before adopting a dog,you should always make sure your family are ready to take on the responsibility. If you wish to surprise your child with a puppy for a christmas or birthday present etc,it will be your responsibility to assure the puppy has a good,safe home if you later find they don't suit your life style.

NEVER DUMP PUPPIES ANYWHERE.

If you have an "unwanted" puppy,dog or infact any pet,always phone your local Animal Rescure Centre,to see if they can take care of your puppy. If you wish to give the puppy away to a friend/relative etc,it is in your responsibility to assure their home is suitable and they are able to take on the responsiblity of owning a dog.

Puppies may look cute and helpless,but as they grow they require love,attention,training,food and daily walks. King Charles Spaniels need a little less excercise than other dogs,but you should still give them the opportunity to have a run-around in a field or park once a day,or take them on a short walk.

If you already own a dog,getting a puppy can sometimes be a bad idea. Both dogs could become jealous and you need to remember that they both still require food,walks and attention.
HOW TO CONTACT AN ANIMAL RESCUE CENTRE

If you find your puppy/dog is unsettled in your home,or you feel you are unable to take care of it properly,please please look in phone books and newspapers for your local rescue centre,and phone them to see if they have space for your pet.
If they do not have room,DO NOT DUMP YOUR PET. Try somewhere else until you are satisfied you have found them a suitable home.
