Clever Girl... >> Music >> Memories

I listen to a song, I remember things that have happened.  Deep, huh?  Here are some of those memories.

Hey Mickey - the night of the closing ceremony, when Carmen and I ran down George Street (without having consumed any alcohol) singing retro pop songs.

On My Own (Les Miserables) - the night of the law party (2001), when I realised that we were walking through the streets at night... just like in Les Miserables.  So I started singing On My Own, Anne joined me, we hugged, swayed, forgot the words, and it was just like the movies with all its postmodern dramatic irony.

Army
(Ben Folds Five) - driving to Eastgardens with Andrew last September, the song coming on the radio, turning it up really high, bounding around and screaming.

Something Deep Inside (Billie Piper) - shopping at Burwood with Carmen in November or so... I think she said something about shopping being so satisfying... and then we just started spontaneously singing the song on the escalators.

Adam's Song (Blink 182) - ermmm... depression? ;)

(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction (Britney Spears) - the first night I spent at Kate's house in Auckland, when her friends put this song on the CD player, all the girls started dancing wildly, and Michael looked on with great interest. ;)

Leader Of The Pack (Shangrilas) - the sticker Kat made me last year, which I stuck on my car.  I believe it said "Leader of the pack (reow reow) love Kat".

Yellow (Coldplay) - Andrew driving me home from the first day of proper rehearsal (ie, the first day Ben came) and this song coming on the radio, the two of us both saying "oooo... I love this song", turning it up, and actually not talking for 4 entire minutes, just absorbing the beauty of the music.

Jumpin Jumpin
(Destiny's Child) - all those times last year when I was driving Carmen around and this song would come on the radio and we'd both do the dance routine (which is really a bit of a worry when you're the one driving).

Genie In A Bottle
(Christina Aguilera) - the first Karaoke Night, and Iyer's charming rendition.

You Oughtta Know
(Alanis Morissette) - when Kate was visiting last year, Andrew was driving us (me, Carmen, Kate, Iyer) to Double Bay for dinner, this song came on the radio, I turned it up really loud and starting singing wildly in catharsis.  Also year 9 Commerce Camp when every single girl on the bus knew every word to the Jagged Little Pill album.

I Kissed A Girl
(Jill Sobule) - Emma, James, and NYE 1997-8.

My Sharona
(The Knack) - going to the Young Achievers... I can't remember what it was called... store day (?), this song playing over the loud speakers, all my friends starting to dance, and... erm... receiving funny looks from the store we were standing outside of.

Independent Women
(Destiny's Child) - making up a song with Kate; discussing the irony of us singing the song; running around Town Hall with Carmen.

Baby One More Time
(Britney Spears) - hmmm... changing the word 'baby' to a certain person's name whenever I sang along, way back in 1999; "Britney-dancing" on many an occasion - with Carls, Kat... so many times. ;)

Malibu
(Hole) - driving to Bronte Beach one night in November 2000 when I was feeling depressed, playing my Hole CD, and realising that I actually did go to the beach whenever I felt depressed.

Baby Now That I've Found You
(The Foundations?) - walking with Carmen, Kat, and Lexi to my car on the day we all went to Burwood, and singing and dancing in an ode to Larry Latex.

Song 2
(Blur) - finishing the HSC.

Petals
(Hole) - the day after Shine in 1999.

Everybody Get Up
(5ive) - Christina wrote in the yearbook that she'd learnt not to get drunk around sober gossips (ie, me ;)).  This song would be why.

Bye Bye Bye
('N Sync) - my mum driving me to the first band comp, the song coming on the radio, both of us saying we loved it, turning it up really loud, and headbanging.

I Want Candy (Aaron Carter) - Andrew driving Carmen and I home, Kat and Sarah B were also in the car... this song came on the radio... we all commented on how we hated it... nonetheless, we all sang along, and I don't think Sarah would particularly want me to publish what she actually sang. ;)

I've Had The Time Of My Life
(Dirty Dancing soundtrack) - muck up week at the end of year 12.

Yes, of course, there are many,
many more, but I'm sure I'm even boring people who were actually present for these things, so...
