Clever Girl... >> Entertainment >> HotBoys: The Movie

While the fact that I intend to start a
boyband with the help of my dear friend Kate in 2014 or so is hardly a guarded secret, our plans to make a documentary before that date are less widely known.  Unfortunately, not living in New Zealand (me, that is, not dear Kate), land of people who like to do fun things with video cameras, this documentary is yet to be made.

Until now.  Inspired by the girl who told Andrew he was 'popstar cute', I came to the realisation that a lot of boys I knew looked like members of boybands (depending on whether or not you remember the inspiration for the HotBoys - see above link - this can be interpreted in a number of ways).  I could see my calling.  I had to make a boyband.

Unfortunately, for those of us who have neither millions of dollars to spare nor relatives in the Jive Records executive panel, the creation of a boyband who can neither sing, nor dance, nor look like the boys
here, is a relatively pointless exercise.

Looking at the media noticeboard...
Rachel: Oh, I should enter
my short film!
Chantelle: What short film?
Rachel: The one I'm going to make as soon as I find someone to operate the camera.

Instead, I decided making a documentary would be a little easier.  Easier than managing a real boyband, because these boys have no ambition.  Easier than making a short film, because that would require a plot of some sort.  Espionage, kidnapping, the shagging of groupies... I'm not creative to come up with something that complicated.

Of course, this being a fictional documentary (a contradiction in terms? perhaps...), I require actors.  While I only have two 'definites' thus far, there are a plethora of roles to go around.  Five HotBoys, two managers (both female), one roving reporter (male or female - as yet undecided), and one camera man (a unique opportunity to both act
and be behind the scenes).  Let's take a look at some of the current applicants.

Andrew, 20, is currently studying Arts/Law at Sydney University.  Aside from being a finalist in 2dayfm's 'Millennium Man' competition (well, if he'd entered), Andrew is almost a shoo-in for the role of Pretty Boy as he is the only person I know who can play the piano, an integral part of Pretty Boy's role in the film.

Ben, 20, also studies Arts/Law, at the University of New South Wales.  His talents include the saxophone and clarinet, as well as running - a useful method for escaping ravenous fans.  Ben also shows signs of future alcoholism - a parallel with AJ of the Backstreet Boys?

Schmempsie, 20, is also named Ben, making it easier for boyband fans to remember the names of their beloved future husbands (thinking of renaming them Ben B and Ben C - or maybe B Ben and C Ben - the possibilities are endless! [that was a poor joke only to be understood by a select few - myself and Andrew]).  Schmempsie is a Commerce student at Macquarie University, and while he appears to lack musical talent, this has not stood in the way of past boyband members.  Besides, he's an awesome soccer player.

Simon, 20, is a med student at the University of New South Wales.  Oddly enough, he appears to possess musical talent, and has recently accepted a position as guitarist for upcoming alternapop band
Very.  He is also, in the words of Andrew, "the wisest person I know", which makes us wonder what he's doing in a boyband... until we remember that this is a boyband mockumentary, and therefore people with intelligence and integrity are not so out of place afterall.

So there you have it.  Just some of the competition you will encounter if you choose to take part in 'HotBoys: The Movie/Documentary' (title yet to be determined).  Think you can do better?
Email me.  In all seriousness, if you are at all of my acquaintance and looking for some fun (no, not that kind!), give me a bell.  All contributions will be appreciated.

Chantelle: Well, no, it's not the same, Rachel.  He's serious, and you mock what he does.
Rachel: Yes, he's the one with the integrity and I'm the subversive one!

No boys were harmed (well... physically, at any rate ;)) in the making of this page.  I should also add that Ididn't take these photos - I merely found them... which makes this all the more dodgy, don't you think?
