Details of my Daks beginings are a bit sketchy so bare with me The 'Little Black' has quite an extensive history. I am the fourth owner of my Dak! Now that's amazing to me 'cause in my family we drive a car until the chassis cracks in two!
In my case I'll give my Dak all the TLC it needs and (hopefully) part with it only when I die of old age (I love the thing so much).
Anyhow, the 'Little Black' started it's automotive life at a Bothun INC. car lot in Eau Claire, Wisconsin (which lot, I am not entirely sure), more than likely it was the Bothun Chrysler-Plymouth lot.The first owner of my Dak leased it from the dealership and then I guess, got bored and went for a newer model truck. I think after sitting on the Eau Claire lot for a while the Dak was traded to Burnsville, Minnesota where it was purchased by the second owner, who I think lived a pretty interesting lifestyle (I'll explain in a moment). Now, either the second owner traded the Dak back to the Burnsville lot or it was repoed (I'm leaning twards repoed).
In 1996, after sitting on the Burnsville lot for almost a year my Dad (the third owner) happened apon the Dak. He teased the sales guy a bit (who by the way was desperate to sell the Dak) and got to bring it home for a two day test drive. If there is anybody to learn from when it comes to buying cars it would have to be my Dad. He got us our current mini-van for almost factory base price. It was brand spankin' new for that year and only had 6 miles on it.
Anyway, now you remember how I said the second owner must have lived a pretty interesting life and I was leaning twards repoed? okay, well after my Dad pulled in the driveway with the 'Little Black' Dak, us kids were in such awe over the thing we had to explore it. My older brother opened the glove box and much to all our suprise we found a pipe of sorts . . . and I'm not talkin' the kind you use for smokin' tabacco . . . Dad destroyed it at once and we went on with life.
Well the little incident didn't discourage my Dad and he went ahead and bought it. From '96 to '00 my Dad used the truck as a plumbing vehicle. My Dad said 'Even with two bathbays in the back, and a light tap on the gas, she would still lay some rubber without effort.'
