Discipline of Children Policy:
Children do not come to school aware of the rules and regulations established for them. Early in the school year the teacher should present and explain the rules to the children as well as explain what is expected of them. This will help cut down any innappropiate behaviors. Little Bears Daycare uses the following as guidelines for our discipline policy:
1. NO form of corporal punishment will be tolerated! This includes:
a. Strikig a child
b. Shouting at a child
c. Depriving a child of food
2. If a child is misbehaving, remove the child from the situation and direct him/her to a different activity. Sometimes it helps if the teacher stands near the child that is misbehaving. If a child needs any further discipline, have him/her sit in a chair near the teacher for a "time-out."
3. "Time-out" is a brief period away from the activity, stimulation, and attention within the classroom. It is a time for the child to think about what happened. The time-oyt should never last more then five minutes.
4. When the time-out is up, explain to the child that he/she may return to an area designated by the teacher, if the child can abide by the school's rules. Watch the child carefully, and give praise when the child is doing something positive. If the child breaks the rules again, repeat the time-out.
5. Communication between the parent(s) and the teacher is always eexpected, especially when their child has been disciplined in school. Explain to the parent what his/her child did and what disciplinary action was taken.
Rules Children should learn:
1. Don't run in the classrooms or hallways.
2. Don't hit, or hurt other children, adults or classroom animals.
3. Respect the property of others.
4. Ask the teacher's permission before leaving the classroom.
5. Don't use profanity in the classrooms or hallways or on school property.
