review: 04.01.01- Charm Bracelet Exposition at the Meow Meow

The Charm Bracelet thing was awesome! I have never been as in awe of movies as I am now. After having weird and buried strands of emotions resurrected through the sights and sounds of the features, my faith in filmmaking as a form of artistic expression (rather than mass money-gobbling) is restored.

As for the music, I thought the Urban Legends were excellent. I have a very special place in my hard heart for sweet, earnest, affecting pop music that is done without pretension or agendas. This duo of a woman with a tender girl-voice playing percussion, and a guy alternating vocal and harmonica duties while playing the guitar were quite effective in stringing together the four shorts filmed by a guy named Reed Harkness (?).

The Reed Harkness shorts centered on his brother, Sam, who is maybe eight or nine years old. It's very simple the way it follows Sam into the classroom or out to the beach. Mostly focuses on the brilliant energy of this kid, and actually almost made me CRY. Probably because it's so touching to see this unrestrained and unaffected state of mind that we all once had as children, and how we will never be able to recapture that kind of innocence.
