Pacific Parrotlets (Forpus Coelestis) and subspecies Lucida (Forpus Coelestis lucida) originate from Peru and Equador. The subspecies Lucida originates from Columbia. They measure 4 to 5 inches in length and weigh about 30 grams in average. Parrotlets can live anywhere from 20 to 30 years with proper care and nutrition. Parrotlets are sexually dimorphic, Meaning you can tell the gender by the color of their feathers. Males have a dark cobalt rump, flights and a streak behind their eyes while the females have no blue and only a emerald green eye streak and rump. The subspecies Lucida is like the Nominate but the females are also known to have blue rumps and eye streaks but not in their flights.. They should be fed a variety of dry and cooked foods which include seeds, pellets, veggies, egg foods, dried fruits, grains, bean & rice mix, pastas, millet and birdie bread. Parrotlets require a bit more fat so I also offer them different kinds of nuts. Parrotlets are the smallest parrots and make great pets. They are playful and really energetic. They have small bodies but huge personalities and attitudes. They are fairly good talkers when worked with and love to imitate sounds. They are great companion birds with energy to share.
