| Lovebirds (Agapornis) originate from Africa and the Island of Madagascar. They measure 5 to 6 inches in length and weigh around 45 to 55 grams in average. They can live 15 to 30 years with proper care and nutrition. There are 9 different species of Lovebirds which include the Peachfaced (Agapornis roseicollis), Masked (Agapornis personata), Fischers (Agapornis fischeri), Nyasa (Agapornis lilianae), Black-Cheeked (Agapornis nigrigenis), Madagascar (Agapornis cana), Abyssinian (Agapornis taranta), Redfaced (Agapornis pullaria), Black-Collared (Agapornis swindernia) and none of these species should be bred together. Doing so can ruin the gene pool for each. Lovebirds should be fed a variety of dry and cooked foods which include seeds, pellets, veggies, egg foods, figs, dried fruits, grains, bean & rice mix, pastas, millet and birdie bread. Remember to keep them healthy they should be fed a well balanced meal each day. Lovebirds can make awesome pets. They have parrot like personalities and are really mischievous and intelligent. They love being all over the place and are usually getting into everything and anything. They should be handled each and every day to stay tame since they are known to turn nippy and/or wild if left without any interaction. They arent very noisy but can have really loud chirps especially during mid afternoon naps. They are super quiet at night as are most birds. Lovebirds are really intelligent they quickly learn where to find things they like and how to open cage doors. I highly recommend you have your lovies doors closed with links to prevent injuries to them if they escape. Over all Lovebirds make great companions and are really affectionate.
