| Easy to Do Water Brooder |
![]() |
| Things Needed: Two Kritter Keepers/bins of the same size One 100 Watt fully submersible water heater Paper Towels or Carefresh One Thermometer One thick bath towel and a small kitchen towel First set the temperature on the heater. I would suggest using Hagen's Tronic Electronic Aquarium Heater. Its fully submersible and has an auto shut off to control the temp. Then place the unplugged heater in the bottom of one of the Kritter Keepers. Fill the Kritter Keeper/bin with a third of water, let the heater get adjusted to the waters temperature for about twenty minutes before plugging it in. Place the second Kritter Keeper inside of the first Kritter Keeper make sure the bottom is touching the water. I have it held down so the water comes up the sides half way. The babies like to cuddle next to a corner and this keeps the sides warm for them also. (Make sure the water is a few inches from reaching the top to prevent it from spilling) Add the paper towels or carefresh to the bottom of the Kritter Keeper just enough so it wont be hard. I would even suggest placing a small kitchen towel underneath the paper or carefresh. Place one thermometer in the Kritter Keeper close to the bottom where the babys usually stay so you can monitor the temp inside. If you place it at top the temp might be off a bit. After you do all this then go ahead and cover the keepers with the thick towel this will keep the heat in and prevent it from escaping. Note: Test out the brooder for a few hours before placing the babys inside to make sure the temp is stable. Works great as a hospital cage too! |
