The events that almost lead to Galthus ending the life of the Doshu of the Kwon can be read here:

The Curse of the Dark Monk
Little is known about Brother Galthus. Nobody seems to have a clue as to where he came from or what life he was leading before joining the Ironfist Monk's Guild of Moorgate in the year 152, in the middle of what is known as The Great Void in the history books of Cosrin. Galthus never was a man to take to big words, and certainly not one to talk about himself, so perhaps this lack of knowledge about him isn't so strange. Yet, those who had the good fortune to meet him knew that his was among the noblest and purest hearts in Kali's realm.

Galthus' path in the Monk's Guild was a studious and dutiful one, which was shown in his title Student of Scrolls. He learned the ways of a monk fast and was made mentor by Sister Maya six years after first setting foot inside the walls of the guild. Only two years later, in 160, he was promoted to Guild Lieutenant after Brother Butwone having been absent for a longer period of time. The big man was Guild Master at the time. When Revenant retired after having lead the guild for more years than most sprites can count to Galthus was one of two candidates to replace him. The other, Diodin Sovin, chose to step out of the elections before voting had closed. In 163 Galthus took upon him the duties he would perform, without ever showing a sign of weakness, for over ten years.

Brother Galthus set to work the very moment he stepped into his new office, and numerous were the tasks he would perform  -  giving his views on the use of martial arts, writing the beautiful guide to gaining knowledge about the herbs growing in the gardens of the Monk's Guild and holding an endless array of contests and events for the betterment and joy of the guilds members, including the huge "Knowledge of the lands"-contest. The single task that took up the most time must have been his development and implementation of a new mentoring system though. Focusing on the three parts of a monks life - the body, the mind, and the soul - six paths were developed, two for each. Each path had its own mentor, and the system gave the members a wonderful opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the aspects that gave them the most, without having to drop the other parts. Numerous were the students taking part in the mentoring program, although, with the great plague and the dramatic decrease in citizens that followed, sadly much of it crumbled after he left office.

In the year 166 Galthus returned from a long journey, and it was a different Galthus. One a lot more... subdued. It took a long time before anyone knew the reasons for this change, but when they slowly became revealed the entire guild was tense with worry. The curse of the dark monk had placed its mark on Galthus hand, deciding his destiny. He knew he had to kill the Doshu of the Kwon, and he knew he would not be able to stop himself from doing it. Not until the Flying Cloud had sailed over the seas and the skies to the Heavenly Isle on the first day of Frost Fall of 169, finding the ingredients for the Sacred Elixir, could the curse be broken and the constant fear come to an end.

Toward the end of his period as Guild Master, Galthus' eyes grew weaker. He would not show it at first, but as his vision faded more and more there was little doubt what was about to happen. When he passed over his Guild Officers Badge on 22 Winter Cloak 174 he was completely blind. Rumour has it he lost his vision for a reason though. It is widely believed the divines blinded him so he could see beyond the material nature of the mortal realm, an ability needed as he took upon himself new duties in 178. When he walked out the gates of the guild he did so to stand at Kali's side, serving as an acolyte to her temple.

Brother Galthus should first and foremost be remembered for the way he silently worked for the best of those around him. His devotion to the guild and the temple was an example to all monks, as was his ability to bring strength and joy into the heart of the one who needed it. When Morlend summoned his minions to wreck havoc on the Monk's Guild and large parts of the town, it was Galthus who almost gave his life to save Brother Kadfails fading soul. Yet, he managed to keep the guild together with a firm hand through times when new adventurers arrived in the lands every day.

No citizen of the lands spent more time in the temple, praying for the strength and health of his brothers and sisters. Next time you venture to the temple of Moorgate, walk up to Henley, and kneel before the shrine to Kali. Bow your head, touch your heart, and say a prayer for one of the...
