Macavity's the mystery cat, he's called the hidden paw. He is always trying to cause trouble for the Jellicle Tribe, especially Old Duetoronomy. During the play there are three times that he causes the tribe to scatter. The one queen that seems to be the only one who is able to tell when he is around is Demeter. The story behind that seems to be that when Demeter was a young kitten he catnapped her and mated against her will. So now whenever he is around, even when he appears as Old D. himself she can tell and begins to get really nervous and jumpy. In the scene when Macavity pretends to be Old D. they use two cats to illistrate that Macavity has the ability to instantly be two places at once. He then fights with Munkustrap and is able to knock him away after a long battle, but then runs knowing he can't take on the whole tribe at once. |
