| Imagion this you wonder into a dark junkyard that seems to have a magical feeling, when you suddenly see a movement in the darkness. A golden cat walks slowly out to examine the area but is chased away by a car. You just saw your first glimps of Demeter. Demeter is the golden queen that is always nervous whenever Macavity comes around. She was kidnapped by him when she was only a kitten, and some believe that he forced her to mate with him. Also people believe that because of that Jemima is Demeter's daughter that Old Dueteronomy raised, so Jemima does not know Demeter is her mother. Her best friend and sister is Bombalurina the two are always found together when Bombalurina isn't flirting with the toms. Whenever Bombalurina and Demeter are together is seems that a wilder side of her begins to show. One examples is the Macavity song, by the end she's singing about Macavity just like Bombalurina is. She also sings the first half of the song Macavity protraying him as a master criminal. After Macavity catnaps Old Duetoronomy and returns pretending to be him Demeter was the only cat to see through the costume. Once he is unmasked by Demeter, Macavity tries to catnap her again but Munkustrap comes to the rescue. Once the whole fight scene is over you can see the two cuddling, so I believe that they are mates. She sings a lot in the show, almost as much as Munkustrap. She is my favorite queen in the play because I see a lot of myself in her, even though she's one of the more serious queens. |
