Struggles - by Anja Batell
Starting out as a follower of many,
I grew to be a leader.
For many summers, I leaded my peers
through loves, laughs and tears.
The seventh summer, my position faded,
and so did all the cherished memories.
All the loves, all the laughs, all the tears,
were now ancient history.
I shriveled up and hid away
until an angel came.
She guided me through thick and thin,
and retaught me the value of real friendship.
She pushed me back to my leader position.
And now, when I look upon my peers,
I see more laughter, loves and tears.
But all my friends are real now,
not temporary.
And I know I will be there for them,
and they will be there for me.
