| Backstreet Boys ~Black & Blue~ |
| The Call When I fisrst heard, "Let me tell you the story 'bout the call that changed my destiny." I thought, "Oh boy...this is going to be a LONG 3 minutes and 24 seconds!" The vocals in this song combined with the background music and reminds me of an angry drill sergeant. Don't ask why, it just does. And personally, if I were the girl that he's talking to, I'd get a little suspisious at this point. Shape of My Heart This is the only song of theirs I really like. And as much as I hate to admit it, Nick's, "I'm here with my confession, got nothin' to hide nomore." did sound great, and we all know how much I DISPISE Nick Carter! The harmonizing was great. Great job guys! Get Another Boyfriend My, my, where to begin? How's about the first line. Any song that starts with, "Backstreet, check it." can't be good. But I must admit, I've never heard BSB use the word, "player." And since when do the boys give dating advice? The background music, though catchy, resembles that of most songs on the previous album. Shining Star When I first heard the title, I thought this song was going to be the Backstreet Boys talking about themselves. I was thinking, "That's a little conceded, don't you think?" But as it turns out, they're talking about some girl. And I must admit, I'd be pretty flattered if a guy wrote a song like this about me. A.J.'s voice really stands out and throws off the harmonizing. But come on, "You're my shining star, that is what you are." is getting a little old. The background was catchy, but not that original. I Promise You (With Everything I Am) This song really resembles Britney Spears, "From The Bottem Of My Broken Heart." They kinda threw me off when they said, "Can you prove the sky is blue?" I thought, "Um, look up, you smartie-pants." This song really radiates the, "Boy Band Love Song" reputation. NOT THAT THEY ARE A BOY BAND. They are some kind of vocal...thing. But I guess they can't be original ALL the time. The harmonizing could have been better, but was good for the most part. The Answer To Our Life Background music was pretty good, but the vocals and harmonizing were great. They really pulled together in this song, which really surprised me. I've always known the boys to have one voice really stick out (usually A.J.) and the rest kinda fall behind, which throws off all chances of harmonizing.I must say this is an all-around good song, which is hard for me to admit when it comes to BSB. Everyone This song reminds me of that, "Backstreet's Back" song on the last album. I must say, repeating, "This one goes out to every-one, every-one, every-one"as a chorus doesn't impress me as much as it might a Nick-Carter-Loving-Teeny-Bopper. Sorry, but that doesn't create a hit single. More Than That This song is way OVERPLAYED! It's been on TRL, like, a MILLION days, and it's on the readio every time I turn it on! I can toeralte it now, but it took me a LONG time to get here. And for the record, "I will love you more than that." is getting pretty old. Time This song probably has the best vocals and harmonizing on the album Brian's voice stays strong through the whole song, which is unusual. He's usually strong in the begining and fades out towards the end. Even Nick's voice adds to the vocals (which is unusual, too.) Lyrics are good for the most part, and background music fits the plot of the song. Not For Me This song, in my opinion, resembles, "The Call." They've got the whole Ricky Martin beat going, but it doesn't really work for the boys. And the, "No, no, ah, ah." isn't one of boys stronger points. I guess it's not their fault, some people can pull it off, and some people can't. Yes I Will The background music in this song reminds me of 2gether's, "U & U & ME." All the, "Ohh's" get a litle annoying after awhile. And the spontaneous, "Yes's" don't fit a SLOW love song. The vocals are a little to raspy for my liking, and they don't make up for it with the harmonizing, which is WAY off. Can't say I like this song. |
