| 'N Sync - Celebrity |
| 1. Pop Okay, the single had been out for awhile, so when I finally got off my lazy butt to get the CD, a whopping 22 days after it came out, I had heard this song before. Honestly, when I saw the title, it looked cheesy to me. But the upbeat tempo and catchy lyrics make this a great song. Justin puts in so much energy at the beginning, and JC sounds great too. Justin and his buddy Wade wrote a great song that won't soon be forgotten. 2. Celebrity When the song first started, it sounded almost as cheesy as BSB's "Larger Then Life." Too digital, too electronic, and pretty stupid lyrics. "If I didn't have cheese like everyday, would you still wanna be with me?" I mean come on! LAME! I don't know about the rest of you, but if JC and the rest of the guys were "cheese-less," I'd still stick by their sides. This song wasn't that catchy, and ranks up there with "Here We Go" and "Bringin' Da Noise" as songs most likely to flop. 3. The Game Is Over The beginning reminds me of a carnival, with all the electronic sounds. I'm scared to death of carnivals, so I almost skipped this song, but I'm glad I didn't. It's very catchy, and the lyrics are ones you'll find stuck in your head. The beat holds strong through the whole thing, and the guys all sound great (even though they are singing about a girl who cheated on them). 4. Girlfriend All right. This song is a toughy. The music is catchy, let's start out with that. It's the "It Makes Me Ill" of the album. Now the lyrics, this is where I have trouble. They make sense and all, but they seem kinda stupid. Like the guys were just throwing words together that rhymed. On the plus side, it's the first time I've heard the guys swear in a song. "...I looked around this whole damn place..." Props to Justin, Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams (writers of the song)! It's about time the guys used foul language! 5. The Two of Us I like the beat of this song. It's catchy, and dosen't fade in strength. One you'll find yourself bopping your head to. The lyrics were intresting. They make a bit of sense and all, except for the line: "If you have a minute, I was thinking maybe, we could hook up." I"m thinking, "It might take more then a minute, guys." Not the best they could have been, but enough to be a semi-fave. 6. Gone Okay, first off, I LOVE the string instruments in this piece! Any group that adds an orchestra to their songs will automatically get my seal of approval, seeing as I played string bass in high school. But back to the song, GREAT! First time I heard it, I got a tear in my eye. A bit depressing, but "it's all good." The line "I'm tryin' my best to be a man and be strong" really gets to me. Make sure the tissues are nearby with this tune! 7. Tell Me, Tell Me...Baby WOW! Wasn't expecting JC's "back it up" request at the beginning. I had to repeat it a few times before I actually listened to the song. (I'm that pathetic when it comes to him. He's just so PINCH!) Anyway, back to reviewing. I LOVE this song! It's going to be the "Bye, Bye, Bye" of the album. Very catchy music and lyrics. Granted the title would argue different (kinda cheesy), it's a great song. 8. Up Against the Wall This starts up like O-Town's "Take Me Under." With the whole "You know we don't care, care, that we see you, see you, up against the wall, wall" it reminds me of "O-Town...I want you to close your eyes..." You think stupid, but you get catchy. The lyrics are a bit... different, but they fit the music, which was done really well. All in all, good song. 9. See Right Through You Well, 'N Sync's first two albums were all about "wanting" their girlfriends or some chick, so I guess it was time the guys came out with one all about cheating. The whole "she left me for some other guy" get-up is getting kinda old. The music is catchy, but the lyrics were sort of lame, which suprises me b/c Justin wrote the song. And according to many teeny boppers across the globe, Justin can do no wrong. I beg to differ, and this song is my proof. 10. Selfish Ah! This is such a sweet song! JC has true talent in the song writing business. Kelly and I were talking about this awhile ago, and we love the connections he makes: "You can call me hopeless, cause I'm hopelessly in love." We LOVE that! JC sounds great in this song, and Justin follows behind with just as much passion in his voice. Kudos, Jace! Great song! 11. Just Don't Tell Me That Is it just me, or does this sound a little bit like "The Game Is Over?" That's not a terrible thing, it's just kinda old. Copying off a song you already wrote? Ehh. I could have done better. 12. Someone Like You Oh, here it is! It's the "This I Promise You" of the album! I've owned this CD for all of six hours, and already I know all the words to this. I get tears in my eyes whenever I hear it. And the harmonica in the background adds a lot to the whole effect of the song. Whoever that was *wink, wink* has true talent. BUT- Justin has an even greater talent with the writing of this song. That kid has quite a future ahead of him. GREAT SONG, JUSTIN!!! 13. Do Your Thing Sorry, can't review it. It's just too annoying! Overall Album Grade: B It was good, but not great. We kinda knew from the beginning that the guys wouldn't be able to top "No Strings Attached," but it was a pretty darn good attempt! |
