Li’s Sad Story

By: Ashley Hall

A fine beautiful, summer day in the War and States Era, Kagome walked along a small, shallow stream.  She was alone and was thinking to herself.  ‘How beautiful nature is.  We shouldn’t have tore down all of these beautiful trees.’  Kagome grabbed an apple off a near by apple tree.  Kagome felt a small power near her.  Inu Yasha or the others wasn’t around. Kagome took out her bow and spoke aloud, “I sense it, some parts of the Shikon Jewel is near by.”

Kagome quickened her pace as she came upon a tree.  She looked up and saw a small leg hang down over the side of the branch.  She stepped back and saw someone was up there.  The person was wearing a white kimono and a blue belt.  The person had a small bag on the right side of her kimono.  Kagome looked up.  She couldn’t see the face of the person because, some leaves hid it.  She saw the jewels hanging around the person’s neck.  She counted six shards.

The person twitched. And began to move.  The person jumped down from the tree.  Kagome gasped to see it was a woman, a teenaged girl to be exact, and she looked like Inu Yasha except with black hair and black ears with white fur and the tips.  She also had a scare on the left side of her neck and had purple eyes.  The girl stared at Kagome as she reached into her bag.  She brought out two metal bars.  “I don’t know who you are or what you want, I suggest you leave.”  She said.  Her ears twitched jumped back.

Kagome looked up and saw Inu Yasha jump beside her.  “Why didn’t you tell anyone you were going walking?  You could be attacked.”  Inu Yasha said crossly.

“Gomen nasai (I’m very sorry) Inu Yasha, I wasn’t intending on going this far.  I sensed part of the jewel and I found her.”  Kagome pointed to the girl who was standing on a rock.

“What is this?  A demon, or should I say, half demon, working with a human?”  She said as she glared at Inu Yasha.

“You shouldn’t talk, I can smell it.  You’re half demon too.”  Inu Yasha said with an evil grin.

“Hee, so you are part dog demon.  I knew I smelled it in you.  If you’re after my shards, I’m not giving them up.  I need them.”  She said.

“So you are trying to become a full demon too.  Eh, you’ll never succeed; I’m getting them for that reason my self.”  Inu Yasha said pointing his sword at her.

“Chikusho baka! (Damn idiot)  They’re not for me!  They’re for my friend.  All I need are the shards around her neck.” She said.

“What’s wrong with your friend?”  Kagome asked.

“Like it’s none of your business.  He’s sick.”  She said as she crossed her arms.

“Well it still wont do anything, you’re never going to get them, now hand the ones you have on.”  Inu Yasha said as he swung the sword over his shoulder.

“I’ll do nothing of the sort.  You have no right to take them from me.  I worked hard to get these.”  She said.

“Inu Yasha, wait…” Kagome started.

“Fine then, I guess then I’ll have to make you.”  Inu Yasha said as he charged.

The girl buckled her knees and held her pieces of metal in her hands.  Inu Yasha thought ‘What is that?’

“Inu Yasha, wait, that’s metal!”  Kagome yelled.

“Metal?”  Inu Yasha said as he turned towards the girl.

“You know you shouldn’t turn your head on someone who has something you know nothing about.”  She commented.

“What would you know?  You know nothing about my sword here.”  Inu Yasha said as he swung it at her.

She ducked at her pieces of metal opened into a rounded triangle.  They were jagged fans.  She jabbed them at Inu Yasha as he went flying back.  He landed on his feet and held his stomach.

“You shouldn’t rush someone like that.  It can cause you excruciating pain.”  She smiled.

“What was that?”  Inu Yasha gasped.

“Chikusho (damn), it didn’t cut you!”  She said as she looked at his abdomen.

“Not a lot of things can.  I see if you get cut from my sword, you’ll die.  You are just wearing silk.”  Inu Yasha said.

“I see you can tell, white is a pretty color but it sure can attract stains.  See, when you gasped, you spit blood.”  She said as she held out her shirt.  “I know I can get hurt easily but most people or demons can’t even make as much as a scratch.”

“That metal, it’s from the modern time.  How’d you get that?”  Kagome said looking at the metal fans in her hands.

“My friend got them for me.  He’s from the other world too.  I can see you are too.  Especially with that gakkou fuku (school uniform) you’re wearing.”  She said.

“How dose he get here?”  Kagome asked.

“I’m not sure, he just shows up.  But that’s none of your business.”  She said.

“Enough, you’re fighting me!  You shouldn’t turn your back on me!  I can tend to sneak up and cause excruciating pain.”  Inu Yasha said as the girl turned around to see Inu Yasha swing his sword at her.

“Oh no, I can’t loose!”  She said trying to jump back.

“Inu Yasha, SIT!”  Kagome yelled as the sword transformed back into its original state and as Inu Yasha hit the ground.

“What is that?”  She pointed to the beads around Inu Yasha’s neck.

Inu Yasha got up and glared at Kagome. “What you do that for?!”

“Inu Yasha, leave her be.  She’s right; we shouldn’t take to shards away from her.  How’d we feel if she tried to take ours? Hmm?”  Kagome said putting her hands on her hips.

“Thanks, well gomen (sorry) I have to take these…” Said the girl who now was behind Kagome and had her necklace in her hands.  She jumped back away from Kagome.  She wasn’t paying attention to who was behind her.

Inu Yasha hit her in the side of the head and she blacked out.  “Now look, she said all those things and then she does it.  How pathetic.”  Inu Yasha said grabbing Kagome’s and the girl’s shards.  “Let’s go Kagome.”

Kagome looked back at the girl and grabbed Inu Yasha’s sleeve, “We can’t leave her here.  Demons can take advantage of her and kill her like this.”

“What do you want me to do about it?  Huu?”  Inu Yasha said.

“We’ll take her with us.”  Kagome suggested.

“No way, she’ll try and take the jewel shards!”  Inu Yasha snarled.

“Like you are, ok now hand them over.”  Kagome said as she grabbed the jewel shards out of his hands.

“I don’t try that anymore.”  Inu Yasha said.

“Don’t lie, you just said you still want to use them to become a full demon.”  Kagome said.

“Fine, fine, we’ll take her with.  But you are watching her and the shards.”  Inu Yasha said as he lifted the girl on to his back.

“Like I always do.”  Kagome said as she walked towards the path she first started out on.

The others sat around the stream waiting for Kagome and Inu Yasha to come back.  They were all starving and need something to eat.  “When will they get back?”  Shippo complained.

“I’m not sure, I wouldn’t expect them back to soon. Hee.”  Miroku laughed as he smiled.

Sango got up and hit him a crossed his head with his staff.  “You hentai (pervert), Kagome would never do that.”

“Ok, ok, maybe you’re right.”  Miroku said as he grabbed his staff back and rubbed his throbbing head.

“Do we have any sake (drink)?”  Shippo asked rolling onto the ground.

“No, and you’re to young for sake (drink).”  Miroku said as he closed his eyes and sighed.

“Hey, it’s Kagome and Inu Yasha, and they got someone with them.”  Sango said as she pointed at Inu Yasha.

“Hey guys.”  Kagome said as she walked up to them.

Inu Yasha had a sour look on his face.

“Who’s that?”  Miroku asked.

“It’s a woman.”  Inu Yasha said.

She began to stir and moved her head.  She felt that she was being carried and saw that it was Inu Yasha who was carrying her.  She pushed against his back and landed on the ground.  “Owe.” She yelped.  “Where am I, and why did you bring me here?”  She demanded looking around her.

“You’re at our camp.  You should stay with us tonight.”  Kagome said.

“You mean, you’re going to trust me?  After stealing your jewel…hey my shards are missing!”  She said as she looked up.

Kagome tossed her the necklace with the six shards on it.  “It’s yours.”  She said.

“You mean, you’re not going to keep it?”  She said looking stunned at how generous they were being.

“No, you need those for your friend.  Hope he feels better.”  Kagome said.

She growled, “Err! I’m not some bitch!  I lost fair and square!  You have the right to keep them!”  She yelled throwing the necklace back at Kagome’s feet and spat at her.  “Humans are such baka ne (idiots).”  She said as she stood up.

She was slammed up against a tree and Inu Yasha’s claws were at her throat. “Apologize to Kagome!”  Inu Yasha demanded.

He felt something press against his neck, “You slit my throat, and I’ll slit yours.” She said.

“Inu Yasha, stop it, it’s ok.  It didn’t hurt me.”  She said.

“But still…” Inu Yasha said.

“It’s ok.  Let her go.”  Kagome said.

“Err, chikusho (damn) humans.”  She said.

“Not all humans are bad.” Miroku paused, “what’s your name?”

“It’s Li, Li Shara.”  Li said as she crossed her arms over her chest.

“That’s a lovely name, say, does a beautiful looking woman like you perhaps have a kareshi (boyfriend)?”  He asked taking her hand into his.

Looking nervous, “Uhh, no, why?”  She asked.

“I would like you to bare me a child.  I don’t know how much longer my hand will let me live.”  Miroku said pulling her into him.

“Uhh? I-I don’t think I could?”  She said nervously.

“Sure you can, just say yes.” Miroku said.

“I mean, I’m looking for another one like me to um…” She trailed off.

“MIROKU! Stop being a hentai (pervert)!”  Sango yelled as she hit him over the head with his staff again.

“Oww, you can’t hate me for asking.”  Miroku said as he rubbed his head.

“….” Li stared.

“Ok, if she’s going to stay with us, then she’s not going to bother me!”  Inu Yasha said as he jumped up into a near by tree.

“Who said I was going to bother anyone.  I’m leaving as soon as I win back my shards.”   Li said as she sat on a rock.

“You can have your shards back.  Inu Yasha shouldn’t have taken them.”  Kagome said.

“Stop it!  I don’t need your help.  I will earn them back in a rematch, you hear that dog boy, I’m going to win next time!”  She said loudly.

“Ya, ya, just try it.” Inu Yasha said.

That night, Li slept leaning up against a rock.  The others slept in various places.

* * *

“Sis, it hurts.”  A boy said.  The boy was in the arms of a girl.  The boy had blood coming out of his mouth and had a high fever.  He was very sick.

“Shh, it’s ok.  Mat is making a bed for you to sleep in.  The village people will look after you.”  A girl said.

“You have to leave again, don’t you?”  He asked.

“Yes, I have to but I will be back as soon as I get all of the shards.  Mat will look in on you every once and a while.  He gave me this heavy metal to help aid me in my battles.  Will you stay alive?  Please yakosoku (promise, oath).”  She said holding him closer.

“Do you have to leave, I like it better when you are here with me.  I feel safer.”  The boy said.

“Please yakosoku (promise, oath) me.  Please?”  She asked as she kissed the boy’s forehead.

A long pause…

* * *

The next morning, Miroku and Sango were sitting around the fire waiting for Kagome’s ramen noodles to get done.  Inu Yasha was still in his tree.  Shippo and Kilala were sitting down beside Kagome and Sango.  Li was still sleeping on the rock.  She started to move and talk in her sleep.  The others turned to look at her as she began to move her arms.

“Shh, it’s ok…” She trailed off, “…sleep in.  The village people.”

“What’s she talking about?”  Kagome asked.

They watched her as her head leaned forward and a tear slid down her cheek.  Miroku watched her.

“She’s talking in her sleep.”  Inu Yasha said as he jumped down to take the ramen of the fire as the others forgot about it.

“I will be back as soon as I get all of the shards.”  She paused; she slowly began to get louder. “…stay alive?  Please yakosoku (promise, oath).”  She wrapped her arms around her chest and began to squeeze harder.  “Please yakosoku (promise, oath) me.  Please?”  She paused again.  “Ryuu!”  Li yelled as she bolted up.  She was awake now and she was looking around her.  “Ryuu, it was a dream…” She put her head into her hands and began to cry.  “Please be well Ryuu, I’m coming home, I can’t do it.  I’m not strong enough.”

Miroku walked up to her and put his arm around her.  “Shh, it’s ok.”  He said.

“You can’t say that!  It’s not ok, Ryuu’s dieing!  I can’t get the shards to save him.  My little brother’s dieing.”  She cried harder.

“Why is he dieing?  How old is he?”  Miroku said as he held her tighter.

“He’s fourteen and he was poisoned by Itai.  He lives in the forest around a small village my little brother is staying at. My friend, from the future, he is watching him when he’s not needed at home.  I have to go back, I have to be with him.  It has already been a month.  He doesn’t have much time left.  He wanted me to stay.”  She said.

“We’ll come with.”  Sango said.

“What about medical herbs?  Can’t you make a medicine for his poison?”  Kagome asked.

“Yes, the village said they didn’t know how to make it though.”  Li said.

“If we bring him to Kaedy, maybe she can make the antidote.”  Kagome said.

“We have to go now, before it’s too late.”  Li said, springing up, “I’ll lead the way.”

“First, we eat.”  Inu Yasha said putting some ramen into some bowls.

After they ate, they set off towards the village where Li’s brother, Ryuu, was staying.  They stopped off at a village to get some food.  Kagome was running low and they weren’t near the well for her to get more instant food.  People cowered at the site of Shippo, Inu Yasha, Kilala, and Li.

“Why are they acting like that?”  She asked Miroku who was walking next to her.

“I don’t think they like demons.”  Miroku said.

“Oh.” Li said as she lowered her ears to her head and looked at her feet.

“What’s wrong with you, you mean that nobody has ever treated you like you don’t belong?”  Inu Yasha said.

“My brother and I never lived in the human villages.  We stayed away from them and lived in the forest.”  Li said.

Her ears perked up as she heard a scream.  Inu Yasha also heard it.  None of the people from the village seamed to hear it.

“What’s wrong?”  Sango asked.

“I hear someone screaming.”  Li said.

“I also hear it.”  Inu Yasha said.

“Kagome, can you sense a jewel shard near by?”  Miroku asked.

“No.”  She replied.

“We should try and help.”  Li said.

“I agree.”  Sango said as the gang went running out of the town and into the woods.

The sounds began to get louder as they came closer.  Soon the gang could see a Youkai (occult monster) holding a girl in its grip.  The demon opened its mouth and was about to put the human girl in when Sango’s boomerang cut it’s arm off.  The girl came crashing to the ground and got out of the hand of the demon.

“You should run for cover.  We’ll take care of this demon.  Better hurry back to the village.  They’ll begin to worry soon.” Li said as she brought out her fans.

The girl nodded and ran towards the village.  The monster swung his other arm around and Li, Inu Yasha, and Miroku jumped back to avoid it.  Inu Yasha took out Tetsusaiga.  With one swipe, the demon was killed as Inu Yasha put his sword back into its sheathe.  The gang slowly walked back to town. None of them was willing to but they had to go through in order to get to the forest near the small village.

When they got into town.  People cheered.  The gang looked confused as people surrounded them.

“You saved my daughter, you are bad demons.”  A woman said.

“You guys must be strong to have defeated that demon so quickly.”  A man said.

“You must stay here tonight.  It’s to abunai (dangerous).”  Another woman yelled.

The gang was forced into a hut.  They sat there, wondering what just happened.

“I don’t think they’re used to people saving their people.  You saw how they acted.  There must be a lot of demons around here.”  Li said.

“Then, I will stay.”  Sango said.

“WHAT?!”  The others said in alarm.

“I’ll stay here while you guys get Li’s little brother.  You guys can just get me while you come back through.  Someone needs to watch over them.”  She said.

“That’s nice of you Sango.”  Li said.

“Thank you.”  She said.

The others got some sleep and left in the morning.  They came to the small village around noon.

“Ryuu, are you ok?”  Li yelled as she ran into a hut.

The others walked faster as they heard her gasp.  “What did they do to you?”  Li yelled.

The gang opened the door and peered in.  A boy with black hair and black ears with white fur and the tip of them lay on the floor.  Li moved the shirt up and you could see the bones in his chest.  He moved a bit and opened his eyes.

“Sis?”  He said weakly.

She grabbed her little brother and pulled him to her.  “What did they do to you?  They were supposed to take care of you.”  Li asked as she cried into her brother’s shoulder.

“They never came.  Mat came two days after you left and took care of me.  If it wasn’t for him, I’d probably be dead.”  Ryuu said.

“We have to hurry.  We have to get him to Kaedy.”  Kagome said.

“We can’t move him.”  Li said.

“Why?”  Miroku asked.

“See how weak he is.  If we try to move him away from here... he won’t make it.”  Li said.

“Sis, I’m not weak.  I’ve held on this long.”  Ryuu said sitting up.

“You need to save your strength kid. We’ll get going tomorrow.”  Inu Yasha said.

Kagome and Miroku stared at Inu Yasha.

“What?”  Inu Yasha said as he walked out of the hut.

Li got up as she heard people outside the door.  She walked out and grabbed the nearest man she could get a hold of.

“WHY! Why didn’t you take care of my little brother!  You said you would.  All of you!  Why?”  She yelled.

“You’re demons!” The man yelled as she let go of him.

“We asked you for help, it doesn’t matter if we’re demons or not!  It doesn’t matter!”  She yelled as she collapsed to the ground as she began to cry.

Miroku walked over to her and picked her up.  “You need to rest now.  Stay with your brother tonight.”  He said.

Latter that night.  A teenaged boy walked into the room where Ryuu and Li slept.  The others stared at him.

“Who are you?”  He whispered.

“We were about to ask you that.”  Kagome said.

“You must be the boy Li was talking about.  You’re from the modern time aren’t you?”  Miroku asked.

“Yes, how’d you know?”  He asked.

“Because she told us.  Besides, you outfit tells it all, I’m also from the modern time.”  She said.

“Mat?  Is that you?”  Li asked.

“Yes, I thought you were looking for the jewel shards?”  He asked.

“I was, but dog boy over their stole the ones I had.”  She said as she got up.

“Mat?”  Ryuu said.

“You should be sleeping.”  Mat and Li said.

“How can I when you guys are talking.”  He said as he began to cough.

“Don’t talk.”  Li said.

“Li, I feel really tired.”  Ryuu said.

“That’s it, I can’t wait.  I’m going to your village now!”  She said as she grabbed her brother and put him on her back.

“Li, wait till tomorrow.”  Kagome said.

“I can’t, he’s dieing fast.  He needs to be cured fast.”  Li said carrying her brother to the door.  “Sorry I have to leave again so fast Mat.  I’ll come back, once Ryuu is cured.”  She said walking out the door.

“Li, wait for us.”  Kagome said as Miroku, Inu Yasha, and Shippo got up.

“Little dragon,” Mat sat patting Ryuu on his head, “stay strong.”

Ryuu didn’t answer.  He was asleep again.

The six of them walked through the dark forest.  The only sounds were of the wind, footsteps, and the breathing of Ryuu.  Li was walking fast and was getting warn out herself after an hour of it.

“You need to rest.”  Inu Yasha said.

“I can’t, I have to get Ryuu to the village.”  Li said breathing hardly.

“You’ll end up killing your self before you get there.”  Kagome said.

Li suddenly dropped to the ground.

“Li!”  The others said in unison as they kneeled down beside her.

“I’m fine, I just need a second.”  She said.

Inu Yasha took Ryuu off Li’s back and onto his.  “I’ll carry him for a while, Miroku, you can carry Li.”  Inu Yasha said.

“Ok.”  Miroku said as he picked up Li.

“You don’t have to.”  Li said.

“You need to rest.”  Miroku said.

Li leaned his head on Miroku’s shoulder and closed her eyes.

They walked into the village where they left Sango and Kilala and left to the village.  It would be about a two-day walk.  During this time, Ryuu hasn’t woken up and his condition seemed to get worst.  Li slept on Miroku’s back till they stopped to make camp.  Miroku and Inu Yasha set Li and Ryuu down by a rock to sleep.  They sat down by the small-lit fire and began to talk.

“I feel so bad for Li.  Her little brother is dieing.  She knows it and she doesn’t want to leave him anymore because she doesn’t wanly him to die before she comes back.”  Kagome said.

“She cares so deeply for him and she’s willing to give her life to save him.  I fear what might happen if she watches him die.”  Miroku said.

“Why do you say that Miroku?” Kagome asked.

“Ryuu is the last person in her family that is alive.  They also never faced us humans.  She is not used to being shunned.”  Miroku said.

“You think that she might kill herself?!” Kagome said in alarm.

“Yes.”  Miroku said.  “We can’t let her though.”

Li began to move as she started to wake up.  She groaned and rubbed her head.  She looked down at her sleeping brother.  She raised her had to his forehead and moved the hair out of his eyes.  She smiled as she leaned down and kissed her little brother.  She carefully lifted him up of the ground and put him in her lap.  She hummed a soft tune and then began to sing, before she whispered a few words to her little brother, “Mother loved us very much.  She called you here little dragon because you were adventuress and brave when you were a child.  That’s why she called you Ryuu,

I was waiting for so long/ For a miracle to come/ everyone told me to be strong/ Hold on and don’t shed a tear/ Through the darkness and good times/ I’d knew I’d make it through/ And the world thought I had it all/ But I was waiting for you/

Hush now I see a light in the sky/ Oh, its almost blinding me/ I can’t believe I’ve been touched by an angle with love/

Let the rain come down and wash away my tears/ Let it fill my soul and drown my fears/ Let it shatter to walls for a new sun/ A new day has come/ A new day has come/

Where it was dark now there’s light/ Where there was pain now there’s joy/ Were there was weakness I found my strength/ All in the eyes of a boy/

Let the rain come down and wash away my tears/ Let it fill my soul and drown my fears/ Let it shatter to walls for a new sun/ A new day has come/ A new day has come/

Hush now I see a light in your eyes/ All in the eyes of a boy/ I can’t believe I’ve been touched by an angel with love/

She finished quietly and rocked him in her arms.  Miroku got up and sat down next to her.  Li laid Ryuu back down and placed her head on Miroku’s shoulder and began to cry once again.  “Mom, sung it to us when we were little.  I was four and Ryuu was just two years old.  Miroku, he’s my only family left.  I don’t know what I’d do if he’d leave me.  Mom died to save us.  My father left my mother and got him self killed by another demon.  I’m afraid of being alone.”  Li cried harder as she said that last word.

“Shh, it’ll be all right.”  Miroku said as he patted her head.

The others slept as Li sat a wake.  Watching her little brother.  She looked up at the crystal sky as the moon lit up the tear that slid down her cheek.  She smiled as she closed her eyes.

The next morning every one ate and was ready to go.  They were in Inu Yasha’s forest sooner then they thought they would be. Li ran with her little brother on her back, urgently trying to get him there before he got any worse.  She ran a head of the group and got into the village.  People around her yelled as they got out of her way.

“Where’s Lady Kaedy?  Please, I need to see her!” Li said urgently as she moved franticly.

“It’s a demon!”  A man yelled as he grabbed a bow.

“No wait!”  Kagome yelled.

“Lady Kagome?”  The man said putting down his bow.

“Get Lady Kaedy as she requested.  Hurry, before it’s too late.”  Kagome said as she hurried up to Li.  “You can’t just run into the village.  They don’t tend to trust strangers.”

“Kagome, my child, what is it? (gasp)” She looked at Li and the little boy.  “We must hurry.  Get some water and a rag.”

They got the things that Kaedy asked for and put Ryuu into a small hut.  Li watched as Kaedy gave Ryuu some sort of medicine.

Kaedy told her she needed to leave so her brother could get some rest.  She left the room and sat with the gang.

“How is he doing?”  Sango asked.

“He’s resting.  His breathing is back to normal but his temperature is still high.  I still don’t know what will happen to him though.”  She said as she lowered her head and flattened her ears against her head.

“He’ll be fine.  You’ll see.”  Inu Yasha said.

The others looked at him.

“What are you guys staring at?  I can be nice when I want to!”  He said agitatedly.

“Nothing.”  The others said.

“I can’t thank you guys enough for helping me.   If it wasn’t for you, Ryuu could have been dead by now.  I don’t know how I’ll ever repay you.”  She said.

“Stop that.  We were glad to help.  You don’t have to repay us.”  Kagome said.

Kaedy came out with a sad expression on her face.

Li jumped up, “Will my brother be ok?  Please tell me he will be.”  She said with a smile.

Kaedy shook her head, “Not only was his body was poisoned, his mind was also.  That I can’t cure.”

Li stood there and began to laugh, “You-you’re kidding right?”  Her voice began to shake, “he’s going to be alright right?”

Kaedy shook her head again.

Li fell to her knees as she cried in her hand.

“DAMN IT. WHY!”  She screamed.  “Why can’t it leave him alone!”

Miroku put his hand on her shoulder as she turned around and jumped on him.  “Mother, why can’t you leave him with me.  I have no one left.  God stop taking the people I love!”

“Miroku put his hand on her head as she cried into his kimono.

That night, Li was in shock.  She walked around saying nothing.  She sat in the room with her little brother as he began to move for the first time in a day.

“Sis?  Where are you?”  Ryuu asked.

She gasped as she looked down at him.

“Sis?”  Ryuu coughed.

“I’m, I’m here little brother.  What is it that you want?”  She asked coming back to reality.

“I don’t hurt anymore.”  He said.

“That’s good.”  She said as her voice began to crack.

“Don’t cry.”  He said.

“I can’t help it, you’re going to leave me.  Like Mother did.”  She said.

“Mom never left us.  You think she did but she didn’t.”  Ryuu said.

“She’s dead.”  Li said.

“Her body and soul is, but not her memory.  We still can see her.  See sis, she never left.  She lives in our heart.  And so will I.”  Ryuu said as he coughed again.

“My brother, you always did act older then you really were.  But you know what to say to make someone feel better.”  She said as she lifted him up of the ground and into her arms.  “I’ll remember this moment.  I’ll remember us, being together.”  She said as she kissed his forehead.

“I love you sis.  I’ll see you later, ok?”  Ryuu asked quietly.

Li put her forehead on his and she whispered, “It’s not goodbye, we’ll meet again, not in this world, but in a world where no one can leave.  C-can you do me one favor?”

“What is it, I’ll do it.”  He said as his breaths began to grow shorter.

“Can you tell mom and dad I love them and miss them?”  She asked.

“I will, I love you.”  Ryuu said as he drew his last breath.

“Be strong, little dragon, be strong.”  Li said as she held her brother’s body in her arms.  She kissed his fore head and lifted him up of the cold floor.

Kagome and the others walked by each other to see how Li and Ryuu were doing.  They stopped as they saw Li carry her brother out on her back and grab a shovel.  She had a white face as she moved quietly through night.  She hummed the same tune to the song she song earlier.  The gang quietly followed as they watched her dig a small hole.  She leaned on the shovel as she collapsed.  Miroku walked forward and grabbed the shovel.  She looked up in shock as he began to dig.  She stayed still and didn’t say a word.  The others walked over and started to help.

The hole was dug and Li put Ryuu in it.  “Be strong, little dragon, be strong.”  She repeated over and over again.  She covered the body and grabbed two rocks.  One was placed at the head of the grave and she started to chip away at it.  It said:  ‘Ryuu Shara, 14 Be Strong Little Dragon’

The next day she didn’t speak as they walked through Inu Yasha’s forest.  Inu Yasha shoved Kagome aside as a ball of energy came out of the sky.

Inu Yasha growled, “Sesshomaru!”

“Can’t you come back tomorrow?  Today’s not a good day for this!”  Kagome yelled.

“I’ve come for the sword Inu Yasha, hand it over.”  He said.

Rin stood behind him.  She stared at the girl behind Inu Yasha.

“I’ll never give you Tetsusaiga!”  Inu Yasha yelled as he was about to unsheathe his sword.

Li walked passed Inu Yasha and up to Sesshomaru and slapped him across to face.  “Yarou (bastard)!  You show no compassion.  The girl,” She pointed at Rin,  “she has a cold.  You’ll need to treat it.”  She said as she looked at her.

Rin stepped forward and walked towards Li.

“Li, get away from him.  He’ll kill you!”  Inu Yasha yelled.

“If he wishes to kill me, he would do it.”  Li said as she kneeled down on the grass and patted Rin’s head.  Rin sniffed as Li grabbed a cloth out of her pouch and held it to her nose, “Now blow.”  Rin did and Li put the cloth away.

“Li get away for him.”  Inu Yasha said.

“I see Rin likes you.  Your life will be spared for now.  You’ll come with us till she is better.”  Sesshomaru said as he turned around.

“Well?”  She said as she turned to face the others.  They had stunned faces as she looked back at Sesshomaru.  “I’ll guess I’ll go.   I will come back when the girl is better.  I feel that I should.  I don’t know why but I feel it’s in my nature to do so.”  She said with a smile.

“I see you have the mother instinct.”  Miroku said.

“Till we meet again?”  Li said holding out her hand to the gang.

“Till we meet again.”  They said.

Li shook the hands of everyone.  She said her good byes and turned to leave with Sesshomaru.  The gang turned and walked off into the forest to meet there new quest that a waits them.
