Dream Demon, Drafaro

Chapter 9

The Cold Truth

Kagome fell to the ground and held her head in her hands crying.  Inu Yasha walked over to her and kneeled beside her.  He pulled her into a gentle embrace and tried to calm her down.  “He’s going to kill her!”  Kagome said.

“Kagome, can you still sense the Shikon shard?”  Miroku asked.

                “That’s right.”  Shippo said.

Kagome looked up and nodded.  “It’s getting further and further away.”

Inu Yasha stood up and coughed, “Damn him!  I can’t find his or Zoey’s scent!” Inu Yasha cursed as he turned to Shippo, “Can you?”

Shippo shook his head, “I can’t either.”

                “Damn!”  Inu Yasha cursed louder.

“We better hurry then if we want to catch up with them.  Kagome, which way are they heading?”  Sango asked as Kilala came limping towards them, “KILALA!”  Sango ran to her and picked her up gently.  Kilala was badly hurt.

“We won’t be able to ride on Kilala’s back for a while.”  Shippo said.

“Then Kagome and I will go then.”  Inu Yasha said as he helped Kagome to her feet.  “We’ll be back as soon as we can.”  Inu Yasha said as Kagome climbed onto his back and the two were off.

The others nodded as they watched them disappear over the tree tops.

“Kagome, which way?”  Inu Yasha asked.

“Umm...that way.”  Kagome pointed to the west.  “Inu Yasha, we need to go faster.”

“I’m going as fast as I can!”  Inu Yasha barked.

“Inu Yasha, we’re not getting closer to the jewel fragment.  It feels like it’s moving at the same pace we are moving.”

Inu Yasha stopped.  He looked around, then looked at Kagome.

“Inu Yasha, the shard stopped too.”  Kagome said.

Inu Yasha sighed and turned around to go back towards the others.

“Inu Yasha, where are we going?  Zoey’s that way!”  Kagome said.

“Look Kagome, we are never going to catch up with Sesshomaru.  We’ll just have to trust him and let him find us in one week.”  Inu Yasha said.

“Inu Yasha!  We can’t trust your brother, he’s going to kill her!”  Kagome said.

“Kagome, you shouldn’t be so worked up about this.”  Inu Yasha said as he jumped from tree to tree.

“Inu Yasha, you can’t just say that, she’s just a child.”  Kagome said.

“I know, but we don’t even know if she is real.”  Inu Yasha said.

“But she is real.”  Kagome said.

“We don’t’ know that.”  Inu Yasha said.

“I know that she’s real!”  Kagome said.

“How?”  Inu Yasha stopped on a branch and stood still.  “How do you know?”

“Because I can feel her.  I feel the warmth from her body I hold her close to me.”  Kagome said.

                “Kagome...”  Inu said began.

                “I can tell.”  She said.

Inu Yasha didn’t say anything then continued to jump from tree to tree.

They landed before the others and stood silently.  They decided to make camp there and not speak for the rest of the night.  Shippo curled up next to Kagome that night to sleep and Sango slept near by with Kilala cuddling her.  Inu Yasha sat up in a tree above Kagome and watched her sleep.  Miroku sat on a rock below him and watched Inu Yasha.  He caught his attention and motioned him to come down and sit next to him.

Inu Yasha jumped down and then the two of them walked off leaving the girls alone.  Inu Yasha sat on a rock out of the girls ear shot and looked at the ground.  Miroku sat next to him and stayed silent.  Inu Yasha sighed, “Miroku, why do I feel this way?”

Miroku looked up at Inu Yasha with confusion, “Feel like what?”

“Like I lost something.”  Inu Yasha said as he looked up towards the sky.

“You did.  You lost Zoey.”  Miroku said.

“Zoey isn’t real.”  Inu Yasha barked.

“Yes, I know, but as much as you say so, the more I don’t believe you.”  Miroku said as he got up and began to walk back towards the others.

Inu Yasha jumped up and glared, “What the hell is that supposed to mean monk?”

“I believe that not even you believe your own words.”  Miroku said as he continued walking.

Inu Yasha turned and began to walk deeper into the forest.

Chapter 10

Bloody Innocence

Kagome hardly slept that week.  She was worried about Zoey and couldn’t even eat.  Inu Yasha still hasn’t come back since he went off into the forest.  Shippo sat in Kagome’s lap and tried to make her feel better by playing tricks and transforming into other small animals.  Shippo gave up after trying almost everything he could do.

“Miroku, can you make Kagome feel better?  I hate seeing her in this mood.  Inu Yasha has not come back either.  Maybe she is upset for two things?”  Sango asked.

“I don’t know Sango, it could be that she is upset that both Zoey and Inu Yasha had both disappeared.  It’s particularly hard on us too.”  Miroku said.

“You mean particularly hard on me!”  Shippo whined and laid on the ground belly first and sighed, “You haven’t been trying to cheer her up all week, I’m exhausted.”

Miroku put his hand to his chin and began to think.  Kilala had jumped up into Kagome’s lap and Kagome began to pet her as she normally did.  She still was in her depressed mood.

* * ~ * *

Inu Yasha sat off in a tree somewhere close by.  He had been watching Kagome and the others for the past couple of days.  He felt bad for Kagome and couldn’t think of anything that could make her feel better.

Inu Yasha tried to think too until he was caught off guard and almost fell out of the tree.  He held his nose and looked around.  What is this horrible smell?  It smells like human blood.

Inu Yasha jumped down from his perch and followed the nauseating scent.

Miroku had looked up at the sky which was now turning a  vivid red color.  Sango looked towards him and then to the sky, “What’s wrong Miroku?”

“I sense a forwarding presence not to far from here.  I think that we should move to a safer ground.”  Miroku said as he grabbed his staff and then stood up.

Kilala looked up from Kagome’s lap and then growled.  “Kilala senses it too.”  Sango said.

Shippo covered his mouth and nosed and looked a little green.  Sango looked at him worriedly, “Shippo, what’s wrong?  Are you feeling OK?”

“I smell human blood.  There’s a lot of it.  It’s a massacre.”  Shippo said.

They all turned to look at Kagome when she shot up, “I sense a jewel fragment!”

Kagome did not wait for the others to get up.  She ran towards the direction she had sensed the jewel fragment in, It’s Zoey, I know it’s her!

* * ~ * *

Inu Yasha landed outside of a small village.  He covered his nose again and looked around.  Dead humans littered the ground and their blood stained everything.  Everything was painted red.  Who could have done this?

Out of the shadows walked a small figured covered in the human’s blood.  It turned and a small laughed came forth out of it’s tiny mouth and the smirked.  It rose it’s right hand and a small human arm was being held in it.  It then flung it at Inu Yasha and hit him, covering him with pieces of the human remains.

* * ~ * *

Kagome came to the edge of the village and stood.  She stared in horror at the blood chilling site.  She covered her mouth as she looked over and saw Inu Yasha standing with blood stained all over his kimono.  He turned to her and she gasped.

Inu Yasha stood and stared at her.  He gasped, “Kagome...”  He began to walk towards her.

She backed up, “No...you stay away from me.  What’s happened to you?”  Kagome asked as she stared at him.

“Kagome....it wasn’t me.”  Inu Yasha said.

“Don’t lie, you have, you have...”  Kagome said pointing at his kimono.

“You have to let me finish, I didn’t do it, it did.”  Inu Yasha said as he pointed at the blood red figure.

Sango and the others came out of the path that Kagome had just came from.  They jumped off Kilala’s back and ran to stand next to Kagome.

“Kagome, you shouldn’t run off like that without any help.”  Shippo said.

                “I’m OK Shippo.”  Kagome said.

The demon began to walk towards Inu Yasha then stop to look at the new people.  It chuckled loudly and then walked over to where there were a pile of humans.  The demon reached in and pulled a human arm out of the socket of a young boy and tore the hand off.  Then it brought it up to it’s mouth and drug it across one of it’s teeth and split the skin.

                Kagome covered Shippo’s eyes.

The small demon had tore everything off of the bone inside the arm.  It looked towards Inu Yasha then smirked, “I’ve been waiting Inu Yasha.  Attack me for I have slaughtered this village.”

“So you’re wanting me to attack you?  Well that just great, I’ve been wanting a good fight.”  Inu Yasha said as he reached for his sword.

He looked down to see the demon, It’s fast, Inu Yasha thought.  It grabbed the sword and flung it across the clearing.  It hit a tree on the other side and stuck out onto it.

“I don’t think you’ll need that.”  It said as it jumped back to avoid Inu Yasha’s claws.

Kagome stepped forward, “Inu Yasha, don’t fight her!”

“Her?  Why shouldn’t I?”  Inu Yasha yelled back as he dashed towards the small demon.  “She is a demon like every other demon, what makes her so special?!”  Inu Yasha yelled as he swung at her again but she dodge him by jumping into the air.

“You should have listened to her.  She knows something you don’t know.”  She said as she swung her bone and hit Inu Yasha’s claws away.

“Feh!  What does she know that I don’t know?”  Inu Yasha said.

Kagome began to run towards them, but Miroku and Sango stopped her, “Let me go!  I have to tell Inu Yasha that’s Zoey!”  Kagome said.

Above them the rain began to fall.

Inu Yasha looked behind himself to look at Kagome then back to the girl, “Zoey?”

She smiled, “That’s right Daddy, it’s me.  Surprised?”  Zoey said mockingly.
