Chapter 4

 

Defect

 

                Latter that day.  Myoga had come back and had informed Inu Yasha of the Saku No Hi.  He would become a human.  The big question was...would Zoey too?  In a few hours they would find out.

 

                Kagome has been sensing a small jewel fragment but she couldn’t tell where it was coming from.  This puzzled Miroku and the others too.  usually there were able to pin point it but this one was masked well.

 

                “What do you think this means Kagome?”  Sango asked.

 

                “I’m not sure.  This has never happened.”  Kagome sighed.

 

                “We shouldn’t worry.  We’ll find who ever has the jewel fragment sooner or latter.

 

                Zoey was playing with Shippo who was playing with his tops as the others talked.

                Soon afternoon turned into dusk and dusk into night.  Slowly, Inu Yasha turned into a human.  First his hair turned jet black, then his ears disappeared and normal human ears appeared on the side of his head.  Zoey hasn’t showed any signs of changing till...

 

                “Mommy, my ears hurt, and things sound fuzzy.”  Zoey said as she ran over to Kagome and Inu Yasha.

 

                “Let me see.  Inu Yasha, does your ears swell up inside?”  Kagome asked.

 

                “No, let me see.” Inu Yasha said as he looked inside.  “There’s something wrong with them.” 

 

                Zoey clasped her hands over her ears, “Mommy, make them stop hurting.”  Zoey said.

 

                “Let me see if I have some ear drops with me.”  Kagome said as she began to look through her bag. “Here, I have some.”  Kagome told Zoey to tilt her head back a bit.  When she did, Kagome put a few drops in each ear.

 

                “It’s cold.”  Zoey complained.

 

                “It’s supposed to be like that.  It’s OK.”  Kagome said.

 

                “Oh, but it feels weird.” Zoey said.  “When will my ears feel better?”  Zoey asked.

 

                “In a few minutes hopefully.”  Kagome said.

 

                “What?  I didn’t hear you mommy.”  Zoey said.

 

                “I said, they’d feel better in a few minutes.”  Kagome said.

 

                “I still can’t hear you.”  Zoey stopped and took a stick from the ground.  She snapped it in two.  Kagome and Inu Yasha sat there watching her.  Zoey kept making noises.  After hitting a tree with a rock she fell to her knees and put her hands around her ears.  She soon began to scream.  Sango, Miroku, Shippo, and Kilala ran towards them to see if they were all right.

 

                “Why is she screaming?” Sango asked Kagome as she jumped up and ran towards Zoey.

 

                “We don’t’ know; her ears must be hurting her.”  Inu Yasha shouted.

 

                “Zoey, shh, it’s OK, what’s wrong?” Kagome asked.  Zoey ignored her; she got up and ran towards Inu Yasha and jumped into his arms.

 

                “I can’t hear.  Nothing’s making sounds...MY EARS ARE BORKED!”  She cried.

 

                Inu Yasha looked at Kagome, “Do ear drops do this?” 

 

                “No, ear drops don’t damage ears, here, I’ll put some in to show you.”  Kagome said.

 

                “You’re a human! You’re not a demon!”  Inu Yasha yelled.

 

                “She’s still part human!”  Kagome yelled.  Inu Yasha put  Zoey down and walked towards Kagome.

 

                “How do you know that ehh?”  Inu Yasha said, “Are you able to smell blood?” 

 

                “No, but I don’t have to!”  Kagome said as Zoey ran towards Miroku.

 

                ‘Then you can’t be sure!”  Inu Yasha yelled.

 

                “I don’t need a nose that can smell blood.  I just know!”  Kagome yelled.

               

                “Well how then?  How do you know?”  Inu Yasha barked.

 

                “Because it’s just...I can’t explain it!”  Kagome yelled.

 

                Miroku picked up Zoey and then sat up against a rock and tried to sleep as Inu Yasha and Kagome continued to fight.  Zoey watched them and then began to cry again.  Miroku rocked her as she drifted off to sleep.

 

                About an hour or two latter, Zoey woke up.  She rubbed her eyes and looked over towards Kagome and Inu Yasha.  They were sitting back to back.  Zoey nudged Miroku who looked down tiredly.

 

                “What’s wrong?”  He asked sleepily.

 

                “Are they done fighting?  I’m tired.”  Zoey said as she rubbed her eyes again.

 

                Miroku looked up at the two and shook his head.  He got up and took Zoey with him towards them. He stopped in front of them, “Hey..”  He said.

 

                “What!”  They both said in unison as they looked towards Miroku.

 

                Are you two done yet?”  Miroku asked as he tried not to yawn.

 

                “No!”  They both said again.

 

                “Now listen, Zoey’s lucky not to hear what you two are fighting about.  She’s tired and so are we.”  Miroku paused as he put Zoey in Inu Yasha’s arms, “Now good night.”  Miroku said as he walked back off back towards the rock he was leaning up against to try and get some sleep.

 

                Kagome and Inu Yasha looked at Zoey as she snuggled up with Inu Yasha and fell asleep.  Kagome looked up at Inu Yasha, “I’m sorry.” 

 

                “It’s OK, I’m sorry too.” Inu Yasha said as Kagome stared at him.

 

                Did he really say he was sorry?  “It’s OK.”  Kagome said.

 

                “I should have listened to you, your time’s medicine wouldn’t hurt people.  Inu Yasha said as he got up and gave Zoey to Kagome.

 

                Kagome got up and followed after him.
