the Northwestern Primary School. From the reading mentors that you send to our schools, from the
Grandparents Day volunteers, from the vision screening at our Kindergarten Registration, from the
Students of the Month program to everything else that you do for us, we really appreciate your support
of our school.”

We Honor Destiny Nicoll as Northwestern Primary School Student of the Month Bob Abel, Northwestern Guidance Counselor who coordinated the selection of our seven Students of the Month, presented the seventh student with these remarks:
“When we planned this program, we saw that there were seven months. Our six 2nd-grade teachers each picked one of those months. I got the last month, May. Which was a great position for me: with all of the wonderful children that we have, how do I pick just one? So, I picked the “best” student. When I went through my list, one student stood above the others. I have known this child for two years. She is a wonderful child with loving parents. She always has a smile on her face. She is friendly and kind with the students that are around her. She is helpful to those students who are new to our school. She is willing to try anything that her teachers ask her. She does everything that is asked of her and does everything with a heart of gold. So, when it was time to select the Northwestern Student of the Month for May, it was a ’No-Brainer’ to pick Destiny Nicoll. I am proud to present to you this wonderful child.”
Brock Denes Honored As Blackhawk High School Student of the Month We honored Brock Denes as our May Student of the Month. Brock is the son of James Denes of Darlington and the brother of Nicole Sharrer and Shanelle Denes.
Brock is a senior at Blackhawk High School where he is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Students and Teen Leadership where he is a program manager.
For hobbies he enjoys building and fixing computers, setting up and trouble-shooting networks and going out with friends. His community service activities include the American Stroke Association, the American Cancer Society, the March of Dimes, the Chippewa Alliance Church where he serves as a core leader and Presents for Patients at the Beaver Valley Nursing Home.
Brock carries a 3.75 grade point average.
After graduation from Blackhawk High School he will attend Penn State University—majoring in Information Science and Technology. |
We Award Four Scholarships The recipients of the Little Beaver Lions Club Scholarships are: Ÿ Samantha Frisk, Enon Valley Ÿ Erin Genova, Darlington Ÿ Adair Gwilliam, Darlington Ÿ Bethany Regner, Darlington We will award each of these students a $500 scho0larship.
’08 Rose Sale: 2700 Dozen!!! In Lion Laughner’s absence Lion Ferguson reported that we prepared and sold about 2,700 dozen which will generate about $12,000 profit. King Lion TEC stressed that we will need to get more Lions and Lioness involved in the Rose Preparation. We should begin folding boxes and stuffers a month in advance of boxing roses. That would enable us to concentrate on rose preparation in the week prior to Mother’s Day. We need detailed signup sheets listing each Lion & Lioness. We should make the Mother’s Day Rose Sale our capital fundraiser for next year. This could eliminate the need for many of our smaller fundraisers, focusing on 3 or four big events for the year (Rose Sale, Horse Show, Golf Outing, White Cane?) It was concluded that if we organized the Rose Sale activities and had adequate help, we could prepare and sell 3,500 to 4,000 dozen roses. We should look outside of our usual areas for selling: Allegheny County and Ohio.
Nine Work at Beacon Lodge Nine Little Beaver Lions took part in this year’s Beacon Lodge Work Weekend.
Spring Wine Dinner Hosts 56 King Lion TEC reported that 56 people attended the Spring Wine Dinner which generated $730 profit. King Lion Cekovich thanked all who supported this event.
121 Children Screened at Northwestern Kindergarten Registration Lion M. Carter reported that we MTI Vision Screened 121 children during this year’s Northwestern Kindergarten Registration on 28-29-30 April. Thanks again to Lions Wakelee and Sherman, and Lioness Ferguson and Sherman who “refreshed” their MTI Vision Screening skills in preparation for next year’s Kindergarten Registration sessions.

Lions McClain and Cekovich Elected As Membership Committee Co-Chairs. At our 8 May meeting, we elected Lions McClain and Cekovich to serve as our Co-Chairs of the Membership Committee for the 2008-2009 year.

Five Lions Attend District Officer Training Lions B. Carter (King Lion Elect), M. Carter Secretary) B. McCarl (District Leadership Committee Chair), D. O’Neill (3rd VP) and B. Thayer (Treasurer) attended District 14-N ’08-‘09 Officer Training Workshop on 10 May at the Butler Blind Association. The workshop was organized by PCC McCarl.
