District Governor’s Goals

General

1.       To have all club Secretaries complete the International Monthly Membership (MMR) report by the current month’s end and the District M & A report by the third of the following month.

2.       To have increased awareness of the nurturing of our youth through outreach and the continued effort to establish more Leo Clubs and possibly a Leo’s District.

3.       To have all Clubs accelerate efforts to establish two (2) new Lions Clubs within the District.

17. To have all Clubs donate at 100% to all eleven District Projects as outlined in the District directory and shown on the webpage (www.lionspa14n.org).
18. To have all Region and Zone chairpersons attend all District meetings and all Region and Zone meetings.
19. To have the Club President, 1^st Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer attend all four District Cabinet meetings.
20. To have representation from all Lions Clubs and Lioness Clubs at the Fall Rally and Spring Convention. To have all Clubs participate in Lions Awareness month using District guidelines.

Family Picnic Serves 40

About 40 Lions, Lioness and their guests were treated to our annual Family Picnic on 24 July. Thank you Little Beaver Lioness for a very enjoyable event.

Next Meeting—Steak Fry!

Don’t forget that our annual steak fry meeting will be Thursday, 14 August, at the Lions Pavilion at the Polo Field. Cost will be $14. If you are looking for a tasty reason to attend one of our meetings, this is it! Contact Lion Mark Carter ([email protected]; 724.846.4423) by 8 August to reserve your steak.

Christmas Party Scheduled for 12 December

Lion Tom Hinds announced that our Lions/Lioness Christmas Party will be on Friday, 12 December, at the Enon Valley Rod and Gun Club.

Appreciation Plaque from New Galilee Fire Department

Lion Paul Mulig, a member of the New Galilee Fire Department, presented us with a plaque in appreciation of our support after their fire damage. The plaque will go on display in our Food Stand.

Food Stand Grosses $245

Lion Tom Hinds reported that at the 18 July polo games we grossed $245.  Lion Tom again asked for additional help at the Food Stand for the Polo Games on 1, 8, 15 & 22 August. If you can volunteer an hour or two during the hours of 6-10 pm, please contact Lion Cekovich ([email protected]; 724.846.9864).

Polo Field “Family Bonfire” Being Evaluated as Xmas Food Basket Fundraiser

We are evaluating the possibility of sponsoring a “family bonfire” at the Polo Field on Saturday, 18 or 25 October.  Cost of admission would be four can goods or $2 donated to our Xmas Basket Fund.  Our communities would be invited. We would sell a limited menu (hotdogs, pop) at the Food Stand. Lion Melanie will serve as chair and will contact the Darlington Polo Club and the Darlington Fire Department.

Lion Tom Pashuta, our most recent new, 57th member, was inducted.

King Lion Bryan reminded us all of our obligations once we have sponsored a new member:

• Be a sponsoring ‘mentor’ for our new lion;

• Make our new member feel welcome;

• Introduce our new member to all club members;

• Provide our new member with information about the club, its officers and constitution;

• Arrange for orientation sessions for the new member;

• Be ready and willing to answer any questions that might arise;

• Encourage the new member to discuss with you any problems and offer possible solutions;

• Assist the new member in developing into an outstanding Lion

Our High School Students of the Month/LEOs to be Invited as Volunteers

We will invite those students selected as our Students of the Month for the ’08-’09 school year and the members of the Blackhawk Leo Club to volunteer with us during the ’09 Mother’s Day Rose Sale, Darlington Days and the ’09 Polo Season.

Lion Irwin Awarded “Proud Lion”

Lion Melanie Irwin received the District’s “Proud Lion” Award.  To qualify for this award, she had to complete several activities designed to introduce her to Lionism:

Our newest Lion, Tom Pashuta, observed that our Food Stand needs “...more help from our fellow Lions.  As the 57^th Lion to be currently inducted, I’m used to seeing the same 15 or so Lions at our events all the time. Where are the others?”  Lion Laughner echoed Lion Tom’s comments: “The Lion sponsors have much to do with getting new members to participate in our events.  We can’t be satisfied that we got a new member.  Rather, as sponsors, we must be sure that we recruit and develop ‘Working Lions’—members who are willing to work on our various projects.  It is not enough to just be a member—we expect Lions to work.  So, when we recruit prospective members, we want to look for people who are willing to work.”
